Very handsome! I read that when he 1st met his wife he told her how much she looked like his sister. She thought it was a pick up line, but apparently she really did. Lovely his soft southern accent.
1972 Academy Awards had Issac Hayes perform opening number (Shaft), which Won Original Song that night. Then near end of show, Charlie Chaplin received his Special Achievement Oscar (first time back in US in 30 years).
@@gleewhoseline198 One of few back in the day. The difference is people could recognize he was being a pretentious twatwaffle. I used to love the academy awards. Haven't seen them for almost a decade. 😪
@@gleewhoseline198 It's not selective memory. Brando did someone to speak on his behalf to turn down the Oscar, but the program wasn't one big political charade like now. The oscars haven't been interesting or entertaining for too long. It had class at one time. RIP Oscar
That's because we no longer have the talent to stage this kind of show/performance as well the talent itself. An era gone by never to be repeated. We won't see this again any time soon, that's for sure.
@@toothumbs A degree of mess has always been an integral part of the fun of live TV and the Oscars used to be the highest form of that type of entertainment. Now the ceremony is nothing but glossy looks and political posturing, which is why this somewhat silly but actually very well done tribute to a song from "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" reminded me of why it was one evening of the year I didn't want to miss. I can't even remember how long it's been since I've bothered to watch it.
@@neyfonsecajunior To be honest I've never been a fan of the Oscars, I came to the video because of BJ Thomas, I couldn't believe it when he came out shooting a gun , and for me it was downhill from there , I viewed the comments to see if others were horrified too, thus my comment to you.
@@toothumbs The number is a bit of a tongue in cheek tribute to the movie, which is part of a wave of revisionist westerns that started appearing in the 60's/70's. It's a great film, you should check it out.
I was seriously worried for each and everyone of those bikers. Amazing! Angie Dickson and Frank Sinatra to boot. I loved this song as a kid. I’m 56 now so it was a nice memory to see this. RIP B.J.
I had the pleasure of meeting BJ Thomas after a concert. He was polite, sincere and a real gentleman. He even signed my album twice...on the cover and on the inside. He will be missed.
BJ's eyes are bluer and bigger than Ole Blue Eyes. That was the first thing I thought when I saw Frank Sinatra go on stage. Ole Blue Eyes was Sinatra's nickname.
B.J. Thomas was one class act. I take it the above footage was from the 1970 Academy Awards at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Hollywood. May he rest in peace...and musical harmony.
I remember the day that I sat next to BJ Thomas on a flight and he was the most engaging and conversational person. He even let me take a picture of he and I together. What a class act. Another good one lost indeed...
I saw him 2 years ago and wasn’t expecting much - got free tickets - well, I was soo impressed with his show! He put on a beautiful show and his voice was impeccable, he had so many songs that I had forgotten - he was in his 70s and I was so glad I went. A true entertainer- sad to see he passed - RIP BJ. Thanks for the memories!
I wont forget him as long as i'm alive. I remember his songs as a child when life had alteady delt my cards. His songs at least brought a good feeling from the radio.
That was great that show with Bob Hope introducing things and BJ Thomas singing “raindrops keep falling on my head...”, etc.! I had never seen BJ Thomas this young before! He sure was handsome! Those eyes of his and his features and face! I’m sure he’s going to be missed by many! But we will get to see him on the other side, when we all pass away…
U know when B J came out with Raindrops...people came up on the platform slapped and Spit on him? Know Why? They did Not think it was Gospel!! What? Have they never heard Gospe l, it just means Good News! What's Not Good about These lyrics?? Guess they Never really heard what these words said!! U know, he left that platform and walked right back into drug addition Another 10 years!! Jesus Does Not Need THAT kind of help!:( He thought JESUS slapped him! Nah...!
Looks like the same choreographing for the rooftop in Mary Poppins with the chimney sweeps. BJ, you were my favorite, loved your laid back style and those BIG BLUE EYES.
Just found out that he passed today (5/29/2021) of cancer. Such a horrible disease! I grew up with songs like this! My condolences and prayers go out to his loved ones! I know he became a man of faith in his later years. The most important thing while living on this side of heaven is to surrender to and serve the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He only can bring forgiveness of past sins and eternal hope after we leave this earth!
I LOVE THIS SONG , SUCH AN AMAZING SONG THAT WAS PART OF AN AMAZING MOVIE!!! WOW, I SO LOVE RAINDROPS AND WITH BC & TSK!! TIMELESS & ABSOLUTLEY PERFECT, A TIME WHEN HOLLYWOOD CRANKED OUT THE BEST!! I WILL LOVE THIS SONG AND THIS MOVIE 4 EVERRRRR, BJ, PAUL NEWMAN & REDFORD, THERE WILL NEVER BE SUCH A COMBINATION EVER AGAIN. THANK YOU & REST IN PEACE PAUL & BJ
A beautiful man with a voice to match. He gave a great performance. This was back when the Oscars was entertaining and Hollywood knew how to put on a show. RIP, BJ. I’ll never forget you, and I’ll always love you.
That was a great opening number! The dancers had to be acrobats too! Raindrops sung by B. J. Thomas the beginning of a full life of terrific music 🎶 💟 Over 50 albums! We so miss you BJ
Great to see them do a Big Production on BJ,s Great tune, the song is one of the greats of the last 60 years. It was the 1 st number 1 song of the 70, s. Hit number one,jan3,1970. Stayed there for 4 weeks. Monster Hit.
I had never seen this video of the Academy Awards (1970, I think). This is my favorite song of his. Watch this entire video . It becomes a fully staged Broadway type musical! I wish l had attended one of his live concerts. I still have the Raindrops vinyl record from back then.l read The NY Times obituary. I now admire his fortitude to overcome the addictions he had. He is in God’s hands now and at peace. We will miss him.
What’s so amazing before BJ Thomas got really popular! BJ had a band the Triumphs & they played at East Bernard, Texas in Riverside Hall on the weekends. BJ was five years older than me but his music was so amazing! EB is a small town but it drew a crowd from other small local towns just to dance & listen to BJ’s & his band! I always felt so incredibly proud when BJ & his music made it big! I met BJ & he was the real deal a real nice guy! Those were some wonderful memories for me & BJ never forget Texas & his roots. Of course BJ lived in Houston when he passed away! That was a very sad day for all Texans who were fans of BJ’s. May BJ Rest In Peace 🙏 And Love To BJ’s Family Thank You Sharing Him & His Music For All These Years 🙏♥️
Oh, he muffed the lyrics at 1:15, but recovered! I can't imagine singing live before millions of people! RIP, Mr. Thomas. Your voice was part of my childhood.
BJ, I am still trying to process that you are gone. 😥 Have a great time singing in heaven. God is so glad you are home. Just know, me and millions of others will miss you greatly. Thank you for not only singing so many songs that we can remember you by but Thank you for being kind and leading your family in a Godly way. I pray your family finds peace as I know it hurts deeply when we lose someone we love. I will continue to play your music and be blessed. 🎵🤗💕
This has always got me, Bob Hope was born in 1903 so he would be about 66 in this clip. He doesn't look a day over 45 or the most 50. Always noticed this about Bob Hope. Didn't show his age for years.
