In this BJJ Techniques video, Gordon Ryan teaches the Wrist Control to Armbar Jiu Jitsu move.
Gordon Ryan is one of the greatest grapplers to ever compete. Having won several EBI's, ADCC, No Gi Worlds Double Gold, No Gi Pans, and more he has cemented himself as a legend.
This is a clip off of Gordon's new instructional series "Systematizing The Closed Guard by Gordon Ryan."

There were alot of dvd instructionals in the 80s and 90s that had bigger dudes showing technique on smaller ladies. I'm sure there are reasons I dont understand but the thing I enjoy about JJ is that it is supposed to work in the opposite. It's easy to see how this technique works against someone who is dwarfed by Gordon's legs, but what about when the opponent is the same size or bigger? Appreciate the free videos!

Size of your partner does not really matter If you demonstrate a technique simply showing it on a bigger does Not proof that it works wanna see reality lock jj Matches in the open division

Every end of his instructional dvd has demonstrating these techniques on dudes of similar size to him, his training partners. First he shows sparring and then commentates over that tape. He uses this girl simply out of convenience, since they both live together. She's also a purple belt.

I wish the training partner was the one demonstrating the move. Gordon is bigger than her so in some way it's a little hard to just believe that I can pull this off against someone way larger than me with a base way heavier to move from within my guard. The tip about off balance is great, but how can I accomplish that when someone is much bigger and stronger

folumb practice and developing your technical prowess. Some moves are more or less ideal depending on your opponent

You can also use the leg that's on their back to help with off balancing. I usually slide it up to tight beneath their armpit, almost like going for a omoplata, but then bring my bottom leg in over the face to finish the armbar

Why can't she just block the leg heading for her neck with her left hand and arm preventing the arm bar? Says the guy who has this happen to him too often.

The initial off balance have to be strong enough to make her worry of face planting. That forces her to commit to try to post her left hand either on his chest or or on the mat. That misdirection buys him enough time to swing his left leg on her neck. As he said, this particular entry is speed based, so basically it is a little bit of a race. To be successful in it one has to create enough distractions so the defence is too slow to be effective.

You may be right, but nowhere on this video did it say its for beginners. Just familiarize yourself with the terms he is using and you'll be all good. In actuality, learning the terminology will help in the long run by making new videos and techniques much more comprehensible. Also, "basic" terminology will change from person to person depending on how they were taught. The common language and terms used will differ as you travel to different places.

It's a jab at the brazilians. They stamped jiu jitsu as theirs but they stole it. Using original names side steps any claim they might have. Eddie Bravo and GR proved the brazilians don't know crap. They don't own anything. We owe it to the japanese
