ARM BAR FROM GUARD BY JOHN DANAHER //
In this BJJ Moves video, John Danaher demonstrates one of the best Jiu Jitsu Techniques and goes into detail on the arm bar.
Here John is showing some of his trademark details on the arm bar position. This position is heavily favored by many of his students and members of the Danaher Death Squad.
This is a BJJ Move off of his instructional series "Arm Bar: Enter The System."
John Danaher is arguably the most infamous Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor on the planet. Some of his students include Gordon Ryan, Garry Tonon, Georges St. Pierre, and Nicky Ryan.
To learn more from John Danaher visit https"//bjjfanatics.com.
BJJ Fanatics was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your BJJ skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for BJJ Students who don’t look at BJJ as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

Two questions: 1. how do I get the elbow to my center line to begin with, even beginners pull their elbows to the outside the second you grab it. 2. when you transition from the lock over the shoulders to the next position where your taking an angle on your opponent, what if he postures up?, you don't have any control of his head in that transition.
@NastyRail1221
@NastyRail1221 3 года назад
The elbow is locked inside your hips so there is really no way to just posture up. Your opponent can stand up but he will just lift you up with him once you have secured the armbar and press your knees together tight.

I don't like John verbal excesses but this makes total sense. Been drilling the beginner arm bar with white belts lately and mentioning in passing that in 8 years I have never arm barred anybody with this technique. Most academies teach a bunch of techniques that don't work period, be it on white belts or black belts. If I were the instructor I would teach the more complex technique that will actually work if you master it than the one that won't work ever.

3:05 is where the partner gets his elbow out mostly when you're spinning for the final angle and step over the head. What to do about that ?
@taylorwollmancg
@taylorwollmancg 5 лет назад
Using the top lock allows you to get your leg close to their head before the finish. When you go for the final spin it is a much smaller distance and window for the opponent to pull the elbow out.
@meetthemasters754

@StHelensKarate
@StHelensKarate 5 лет назад
Not much, when doing Gi I like to have a deep cross collar grip. Then having a grip on their sleeve to pull across to line their elbow up with the centre of your stomach. So where John is controlling head by grabbing round it, the collar can be used in the same way.
@brianwj5
@brianwj5 5 лет назад

If you’d like to know my variation on this arm bar that works well with me. Use hips to move opponent arms into correct position to start. Use the traditional cross body grip and the arm at the same side of the body control the head (Danaher does it slightly different in the video and hold the elbow with normal grip but shows tradition grip complaining. I still believe it’s best grip for control and just break posture with the other hand!. You build legs higher up their back and make sure they are over the shoulder other it won’t work. To get over the shoulder I keep everything close together and push their shoulder back with arm that controls the arm. Also when it’s all right and u have posture heals down with legs and one arm, use arm that’s not doing them to rotate as their arm is stuck and controlling posture is more important to keep arm bar than holding their arm during. Rest you will know. But that’s my extra steps I hope they help. Reason I sent this was I was drilling today with some resistance from partner and they made it a lot more successful
