Op zaterdag 27 juni 2015 speelde BLØF samen met Counting Crows hun The Smiths-cover 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out / Er Is Een Licht Dat Nooit Uit Zal Gaan' op Concert at SEA. / concertatsea / concertatsea / concertatsea
It's 2022 and I'm here. I must've watched this video a 100 times straight just now. It's absolutely mind blowing. Jesus fucking Christ, I wanna live in this video. Thank you BLOF (which I've never heard before but I already love) and obviously Adam who is a god sent from music heaven to save Earth from all sorts of shit. Thank you.
I still think this one isn’t too great, I don’t like the fact that it’s partially in Dutch, it’s weird to hear it in my own language.. I’ll always prefer the smiths performing it themselves
That is totally ok. the Dutch parts are pretty much a direct translation of the English parts. I know it has been 4 years since you posted this. But since nobody replied I thought I'd tell you anyway. I'm glad you like it :)
I often return to this cover. The final refrain with Adam singing "there is a light" quite beautifully, against the crowd singing the full refrain, with the lighthouse circling in the background - damn near religious enlightenment level of music.
Great performance of Adam Duritz in particular! Sure, you cannot copy the original, but you can recreate the picture and that is what he did together with the other great musicians. Hat off folks!
I'm American and don't speak Dutch, but I like this band. Great musicians and I like the singers voice. And Adam Duritz, does a fine job. Would love to see Counting Crows cover this song on vinyl.
It is such a different experience to listen to the singing voice of Paskal Jakobsen, a Dutch singer, compared to the many actors speaking in the Dutch films that I love. I love this gentleman's voice. It also works so well with Adam Duritz's beautiful voice. The musical artists accompanying these singers are equally as wonderful. 🌸🎶
13 years since I left nederlands... But hey this music keeps my smile... I wish Id never left... And counting crows... WOW.. Why arent they the best band ever in life ? Every song touches your life at some point... Lyrical genius... ♥
Mooi samenspel.
Well arranged, and magnificently sung by both vocalists. Adam's chorus in particular (1:08-1:40) rivals the Smiths' studio original in my estimation. Until I found this, I hated every cover version of this song I ever heard - and every live version (Morrisey or otherwise). Thanks BLØF & Counting Crows.
True, but some of them may not be especially familiar with the song, and those who do know and love it are experiencing the novelty of different artists singing it - and partly in Dutch. So, incredible as it may seem, I think what we're witnessing here is people actually paying attention to a (very competent) live musical performance. Amazing, I know. And they do respond reasonably enough when the BLØF guy invites them to sing the line towards the end. I find it quite reassuring that you can still find concerts to go to where you don't have to leap about moshing dementedly to prove you're enjoying yourself!
I’ve loved this song ever since I played it incessantly while studying for the Bar exam back in 1987 and I love this version. I love the German parts even though my 9th grade German is not quite up to the task.
Well, in summer half of the province of Zeeland is German, so I understand this confusion. But as said, this song is in Dutch. So it's got nothing to do with your 9th grade German. 🤣
@Moira Bokstijn I appreciate that but just think English is the universal language ,,we should just stick with that ...very confusing all these other languages...just my view.
@Moira Bokstijn English is without a doubt the actual universal language. It is the world's second largest native language, the official language in 70 countries, and English-speaking countries are responsible for about 40% of world's total .English can be at least understood almost everywhere among scholars and educated people, as it is the world media language, and the language of cinema, TV, pop music and the computer world. All over the planet people know many English words, their pronunciation and meaning.
