My wife just made a good point. A Braai is not about the food, but about the process. From lighting the fire, the "kyer" (party\pleasantries\atmosphere), the meat on the grill, salads, braai broodjies and the eating.

Pata Pata is an awesome joint that's all about Maboneng's goodness. I stroll into the place and it's like an ode to that groovy Afro pop song by Miriam Makeba which is where they got their name from. Pata Pata isn't just a regular old restaurant, it's like a food voyage through SA. They proudly flaunt all the incredible flavors this country's got. Their menu is like a love letter to SA using fresh local stuff to whip up faves like morogo, idombolo, and potjie. Now, the real deal was those boboti springrolls. Imagine all the warmth and spice of traditional SA boboti wrapped up in a crispy springroll with a side of tangy sweet chilli sauce. It was a flavor party in my mouth. Then there's the lamb shank so tender it basically falls apart drenched in rich gravy with idombolo (steamed dumplings) and butternut. And don't sleep on the morogo wild spinach so good I considered ordering a plateful. The fillet steak was a winner too rocking a peppadew and honey mustard sauce that's sweet and savory perfection. What's killer about Pata Pata is how they make every plate look like a work of art. It's like you almost don't want to eat it but of course you do. The presentation isn't just for show, it adds to the whole flavor experience. If you're a vegetarian or vegan no worries, they've got you covered. Prices might raise an eyebrow at first but trust me you get heaps of food for your buck. Pata Pata isn't just a place to eat, it's SA culture party with food. Every bite's like a song and each dish has a story. My Pata Pata adventure was a taste of SA I won't forget, a journey through deliciousness and tradition.

I have great memories of the Jeppestowns. I used to ride the metro rail from the station next to Maboneng. My brother has a prop car shop right there at Maboneng. Shout-out to you guys trying Chisa Nyama. I'm curious if you guys have noticed that Jacaranda trees in Joburg. Pretoria is the best place to see them but I suggest you find an elevated area to get a nice view of them.

The food in S.A is actually very good ...if I had to recommend something to you guys it would be to try the pepper sauce or mushroom sauce by spur on thier burgers....that sauces makes the the difference lol

Hi there you must try braai bread it's a sandwich with tomato ,onion ,cheese, salt and pepper with chutney then you grill it slowly on the coals till the cheese melts take it of and eat while warm dont forget the potato salad but not all people can make a great potato salad I'm a pro .

There's alot of controversy between S Africans on how you should make things and cook it, especially things like Boerewors, bobotie, fagots (skilpadjies) and for steak before braaing they should be salted and air dried for half an hour before putting on the grid, there's alot of different biltong and droewors to try depending on where you buy it but every second person has their own recipe for things but what I want to see you guys try is walkie talkies which I think is a very SA thing. Personally we just feed it to the dogs because it's cheaper than dog food 🤣

Im sorry, but thats not braai, thats some weird meat and pap on a fancy tray. A braai is a bunch of guys standing around a fire, with any meat on the roatser, trying to hide from the woman. Eating directly from the grill and maybe serving the rest of the family afterwards. Kidding, but that's definitely not a PROPER braai expeiance. oh I forgot about the beers, there must be beers.
