I had the same issue with a similar one. I was also surprised that it wasn't thermal fuse. Price of the heater is insane. Fortunately I had one much more expensive that the pot was gone, rendering it almost useless. After quite tricky transplant I have one working.

Have this same coffee pot for four years, no problem, great coffee, great price. It just now started to "act up" wouldn't heat, played with plugging it in and out with power button push......refused. Next day, tried again and it started. Worked a couple weeks and now here I am researching. I will probably buy it again, simply because the price is right and four years isn't bad. Thanks for your information, I will definately look into the extended warranty if it is offered!

I kept my vintage Corning Ware Coffee Pot and made coffee in that. I did find out I should pull out the grounds container BEFORE pouring. I did a little more investigating BEFORE I bought a new pot or got rid of the old one. I have gotten the coffee maker to make a few more pots of coffee, I believe the programmable buttons are to blame for it not working. I regards to the gentleman testing the heating element. If the buttons are not working properly, wouldn't this also prevent the current from going to the heating element thus making it seem the element is the issue? The previous maker non programmable lasted a very very long time (Proctor Silex). The pot was still good so that was donated.

I was given the same coffee machine new as a gift, just like yours yours and it lasted three months. Now I have to figure out who makes the best coffee maker and purchase it.

Juan Valdez the coffee bean grower recommends grinding your own coffee beans, water should be a constant 195 degrees during brewing. Oh so good time for a cup of Joe.

I had a small 4 cup B&D basic model, it was amazing and had excellent 4-5 star reviews and consumer reports recommend it. I worked in a coffee roasterie, I'm a coffee snob, the brew temp is most important thing. That little one was perfect but when i broke the carafe, it was gonna cost the same to replace that as the bigger pot was brand NEW so i bought it , immediately however my new big one never has been the accurate temp makes awful coffee, the carafe already broke so i get another on on Amazon for $11... I'm totally done with B&D now that I see everyone is having problems with the same exact model as mine AND ITS NOT JUST ONE PROBLEM ITS MANY!? Naw bye

Mine only lasted for a couple months and I just bought the same coffee kind you got this year. It sounded like it was broken so I thought that's how it supposed to sound then finally it stop on me one morning.

Spectrum Brands... Same company that operates on the UK, who have bought up a load of formerly-respected brands here and put those brands on generic Chinese products. That said my experience with them was better than yours. I bought a deep fryer, imported by Spectrum and branded Morphy Richards. Warranty was only one year and I did not have the receipt. The glass on the top cracked in use after 20 months, and I complained to them, stating that such a fault is dangerous and that under the Sale of Goods act they were responsible even out of warranty (this isn't actually true as the reseller bears the responsibility under UK law but I didn't realise that at the time, ahem). They did not even ask for the item back, apologised profusely, and agreed to send a free replacement upon receipt of a photo of the damaged unit. The fryer they sent was a higher spec model. So I can't complain really! I suspect this may not have been the first example of cracked glass on this model and they didn't fancy being sued... EDIT: Russell Hobbs not Morphy Richards, I always seem to get the two mixed up for some reason!

Same thing, you find the same cheap Chinese made products that are identical, aside from the name on the box, in assorted stores, all with the store brand names of choice on it. Just have to look at the various store websites for the price they sell for, and choose the cheapest one. As almost all stores here have to offer a legal one year warranty on things, you are covered for this, just remember to make a copy of the receipt and put in the box. Had a kettle last 6 years that way, though it was in reality the original one and 5 replacement ones under warranty, each one ( as I got a credit note refund each time, thank you pink store) having a full one year warranty on it. They lasted on average 10 months, the final one was the outlier, it lasted 12 months 1 week instead, must have been the good one they made by accident.

Warranty voided...🤦‍♂️😂 Of course, you could do the only thing possible to get even: put the old one back in the new box and return it.

I luckily had my B&D for 2+ years before the heating element went out. Still don't think this should have happened and so annoyed with the throw away culture!! B&D brand on all products are below subpar now and i've never been excited long term for their products
@ThePreyMantas

I was hoping to see you measure the plate temp. I bet B&D still made money on the $7 shipping! LOL :) Side note: always good idea to do the 20/80 vinegar/water washout prior to use and about every 6-9 months. They should take a scanned copy of your original receipt since scanned original docs are admissible in court. Just make sure to put some written text on it, like purchase date to show it's not a forged document. It sounded like you didn't need the original receipt, just the cord end. (date code mentioned). Yea, making quality is expensive all the way around... I'm just glad I found you when I needed to save my 1200 watt microwave! Thanks again! :)

My Dm1008B Black n decker 12 cup programmable was leaking water In side..obviously via a hairline crack in the clear hose...requiring a trip to a industrial plastic house supply store or lowes....this is after I took it apart and found alot of roach crap inside..which.required plenty of que tips with fablorosa cleaner....so to prevent future critters from entering a cut out some window screen material with tape. So I think I got it fixed..heating not an issue...h2O leaking

These coffee makers are like Bic lighters, when they stop working, you THROW THEM AWAY! It costs less to replace with a new one than to take advantage of the foolish 1-year warranty where you spend more on shipping and return costs than to drive to your local department store and pick up a new one the same day for less $$$.

That's just ridiculous, 20 dollars for the entire coffee pot... 25.00 for the heating element. Why bother making replacement parts that exceed cost of unit... They evidently use that element in higher end makers, but its cost effective to use them in the low end makers... They probably buy the elements for 2 dollars from a Chinese source... Crazy world Steve. Best to you.
@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA 5 лет назад
That element I doubt cost more than a dollar from the factory. Remember the $20 coffee maker has a purchase price, at import, after duties and shipping, of under $10, so the Chinese aggregrator must be paying under $5 per unit, in bulk, branded to customer specifications. Thus the factory likely makes the entire unit with a material cost under $3 per unit, including labour costs. The element and the glass bowl likely are the most expensive single parts in there.
@frankpitochelli6786
@frankpitochelli6786 5 лет назад
@@SeanBZA .....you are absolutely correct, I just got frazzled at the cost of the part, and not realizing that you are 100% correct. That unit is definitely 3-4 tops to manufacture from top to bottom. Ty for your response.

I had one just like that (sans the timer). It did the same thing. Most of them just seem to blow their elements out anymore. I'm wondering if it's a consequence of the two-piece design that seems popular, or whether it's just running the wire too hot (bad design geometry? bad alloy? bad refractory?)
@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA 5 лет назад
Just cutting the cost of the most expensive material in the heater. The nichrome wire used to wind is expensive, so if you run it at the high side of it's operating range ( around 100C below it's melting point) you get the required heat output, and fast heating as well, but as the element cycles it alternates between hot and cold, and every cold cycle brings in atmospheric humidity, causing the wire to corrode on the hot cycles. Eventually the wire will either arc open, or arc and short out to the case, which is steel cast into the aluminium body. Norcal is right about the element being overrun, the design is likely for a 750W 100VAC element, perfect for Japan, but they instead use it on 120VAC, and stamped it with the new higher power output, as they do last at least 12 months for the occasional weekly brewing of coffee.
@PSUQDPICHQIEIWC
@PSUQDPICHQIEIWC 5 лет назад
I've disassembled a few more recent cheapo power resistors and heating elements that failed, and while the wire was scaled, it was also obviously running excessively close to its melting temperature along its entire length (sagging, forming necks and blobs). In the case of the power resistors, this occurred at about 25-50% of rated power while bolted to an oversize heat sink. In all these cases, the refractory compound wasn't a fine magnesia or alumina cement, but rather, a loosely packed (possibly merely sintered under operating heat) granular material (maybe just silica). In these cases, the wire composition and geometry may have been perfectly adequate if only it were better coupled to its housing by a more dense refractory compound. As you say, it also would have had less trouble with oxygen permeation.

Another object lesson on what happens to formerly reputable brands in the postmodern era of importing Chinese junk that stands a reasonable chance of burning your house down or giving you cancer from God knows what. I've got a Bunn Velocity Brew which has more or less lasted for 12 years... I've replaced the warmer switch twice now, but that's it. Unfortunately, it doesn't make the tastiest cup of coffee. The B&D coffee tasted great, but this nonsense has ruined me in the brand For emergencies (waking up with no coffee definitely qualifies) I keep my old stainless steel camp coffee pot in the cabinet. Pop it on the stove and I'll have coffee enough to be ready to cuss any retail junk apologist.
@99shadows66
@99shadows66 Год назад
If you want the best temp to brew coffee think of the old days when people use to use a percolator to brew coffee or the really old days when boiling water was poured through a coffee sock. The water had to reach boiling point in order to travel up the tube of the percolator and then recirculate to brew the java. This is the best-tasting coffee because you are extracting all of the flavors out of the grinds. The reason modern coffee makers are set to no higher than 192 is due to liability. If people had enough brains to use a coffee maker correctly they would allow us to set the temp to 212 but society isn't smart enough anymore. I wont mention lawyers... lol

So today it finally crapped out no matter how I tried will NOT work. So I looked at it and though what does this actually do; heats up the water and drips through the grounds. OK already have grounds and filter in just need to dump the water and clean the counter where it sits. So I get out a pot fill the carafe with water and dump it in the pot heated it up and poured it through the grounds wala coffee. Then I got to thinking sometimes I like flavored coffee, but I do not use creamer or sugar, just high octane joe. Ok I have spices; cinnamon sticks, cardamom seeds, nutmeg, orange peel etc. what if I put one or more of these in the pot while I am heating the water hmm. Ok maybe next time right now I just want my dang coffee.
