Actually in many regions they are. Even here in the US it needs to meet certain standards which are easy to meet. As long as it has lights, seatbelt and you remove the spoiler just for the inspection you can register it. Of course in states like california it may be harder due to smog checks. But if you can afford a half a million dollar racecar you can afford to temporarily revert some parts to stock for inspections.

If you are rich enough, everything you do is legal! Money is above laws,(buys cops, judges) Anyways, i dont think a cop would try to get you in jail for cruising in the street with this beast

+brat dule They could have done what they did with the S54 Z3M - changed the gearing so from the factory the Z model was slower. I think the reason they didn't was because the Z4 was moving upmarket (more "7" and less "3") and they felt the N55 was enough power for the car and that the M division had little to add to the car. I do feel its a shame though, as a long-time Z3M owner and Z4 owner for awhile, I would love to see an M variant of the E89. Nothing beats a sporty roadster or coupe IMO

+OhHeyThereGuy Great idea. Would've done the same. Give it the V8, rip out all of the useless interieur and fit an aggressive aeropackage to the exterieur. Sell it only in black or grey.

Thing is, the Z4 was on its last year of homologation so BMW HAD to make a new car. No choice in that.
