this is, and i'm not exaggerating, the ONLY time that the skull heart has actually granted a wish. and it's all because of a grandma with a kill streak. GROUNDBREAKING very belated edit: to be more specific, this is the first time the skullheart has granted a wish that didn't directly lead to a Skullgirl being created! filia, parasoul, annie's mom, squigly's mom, all of them were basically doomed to become the skullgirl due to their wishes. some processes were gradual, like filia and parasoul, and others were instantaneous, but it was basically guaranteed that the characters that made the wish would become the next Skullgirl. the skullheart's goal is to create a world-ending cataclysm, and it can always rely on a Skullgirl to wreak the havoc it wants. but since dahlia wished for that exact outcome out of the pureness (not goodness, *pureness*) of her heart, it granted the wish without any caveats or by fating anyone to become a skullgirl.
Every story mode is it’s own individual branch of the timeline that is skullgirls played and witnessed by Aeon and Venus. In a sense the greater narrative of skullgirls is about these two sisters playing their game that is skullgirls waiting for the right circumstances that will herald their release into the world. Black Dahlia’s stories has made the greatest impact towards this endeavor and it has been stated by the creators at lab zero that the “true ending” of skullgirls will be revealed once three characters are made playable. Those three being umbrella black dahlia and Maria herself.
I was expecting Black Dahlia to solo the black egrets, have Annie explode like a firework, and battle peacock and Marie. Seeing her take out Marie first was definitely insane and unexpected and even seeing her vibe with the skullheart is impressive character work
Ya know, that doesn't sound like that wouldn't have been a better story mode. Though, how would she make Annie explode like that and still have it be T-friendly?
Man it's weird how this is probably the best written campaign in the game but at the same time has all of said good writing exist just so they had an excuse to end on a fucking Doom reference. I massively respect the cojones on display. GGWP Black dahlia, can't wait to see fanart of you chokeslamming all 3 of the trinity members in the future.
This was one of the most introspective story modes so far. I loved the inclusion of the Skull Heart as a character this time instead of the usual plot mcguffin role she's usually is.
@@connorlee3704 I will agree, honestly seeing it being explored further is what makes this story more interesting. We see more of her perspective and her understanding regarding wishes and what really makes it pure. We don’t usually get that in other stories, just: “So are you ready to make a wish or you gonna cut me up like the others? The latter oh okay *DED*” also it’s fun to see her being very confused with how weird humanity is and how some literally shun her because their love for something is too strong (the bunnies love for dahlia and her love for agony)
@crystalrose5646 It's a great time to see the thought process of both the Skull Heart and Black Dahlia in a strange but engaging kinship the two have being absolute monsters.
It looks like the reason she spared Big Band was because he wasn't giving her so much as a look of despair, which is one of the main reasons Dahlia kills in the first place. As for Cerebella, Dahlia didn't kill her, she just dragged Bella to a cage and locked her up to be used as a pawn later on.
@@connorlee3704 Ah so thats the reason why she called Ben "boring' because she wasn't entertained enough. Ben was going to accept his fate for a moment but he was lucky to survive. Poor cerebella I guess she'll be used as a toy.
Because he hasnt "smiled" yet to Dahlia. The thing that keeps her going is watching people slip from the edge of sanity and break, just like her. Seeing Big Band quietly accept his fate without losing hope unnerves her because it comfirms what he told her: she isnt the "the evil nature of humanity" incarnate how she thinks, just another bloodthirsty murderer with delusions of grandeur
I didn’t think Dahlia of all people would be the one who’s truly “pure of heart” but that’s pretty neat. The idea that “pure”, isn’t righteous, but rather unmotivated and uninfluenced by everything. Once she set out to experience everything she thought would excite her, she became a blank slate.
@whiteeye9584 So this story mode explored how the term PURE doesn't mean Kind, Noble, etc. It means "straight up", "only this" and it can be pure insanity, pure evil, pure agony. BD's wish was in a warped sense, pure by the Skull Heart's standards. She wasn't even going to be turned into a Skullgirl for her wish. BD wasn't going to bullshit what she wanted and the Skull Heart honestly understood what she wanted.
Honestly, I liked this story mode. B Dahila reminds me of Joker a lot, she kinda just revels in chaos and lives to set the world on fire. Hence her ending, she’s also the first one to have a “honest” wish with the Skull-heart which I thought was interesting. Rip my waifu Eliza tho, ain’t no way she just lost to flamethrowers 😭
Dahlia was sorta prepared for Eliza, since her floor is able to drain all the blood from the fights and victims, so she just needed to damage Eliza enough that her immortality was gone down the drain
And I also can’t believe black dahlia betrayed the Medici and killed eliza like that’s messed up and she didn’t kill Nadia Fortune or brain drain she failed to killed them both in her story mode
@@ryeryeharleyquinncatwomana4168 Я не пойму почему Брейн Дрейн проиграл, он же умеет захватывать разум и читать мысли? Где были его способности?!?? Или это всё иллюзия созданная им?!
@Seannic Peacock makes wishes so bad that not only does the Skullheart refuse to grant any of them, but she calls Peacock the worst wisher she has ever put up with in all its existence. For context to what some of these wishes were, these include turning everyone in the world into puppies and replacing the oxygen of the Earth with chocolate.
Deaths in the story -Marie -Squigly -Eliza -Vitale -Valentine -Fukua -Ms. Fortune -Robo-Fortune -Painwheel -Brain Drain (Old Body) -Lorenzo -The rest of the World
I'm honestly surprised she didn't killed Cerebella after she killed Vitale. You would think Dahlia would kill off Cerebella first after having a match with her but I was not expecting that. I honestly don't see why she would keep Cerebella alive though, unless Dahlia somewhat pities her, considering she did actually taught Cerebella to fight in the first place of all people
@@georgeuferov1497 sorry my comment didnt make that much sense now that i reread it (I dont even know how to explain it). The built different part is about how Eliza is made of blood and Sekhmet
Of course Dahlia's wish is pure because it is also what the skull heart wanted death and destruction everywhere. It ceases to exist for it is not needed anymore for its goal is complete. This story mode is very well written.
Oh my sweet god,my favorite granny got her story and at the same time the first character who immediately began to fight with Marie, also the first character who severely humiliated Eliza, I begin to admire more and more!
@@georgeuferov1497 in fact for Eliza, being burned is more of a humiliation than just death, she is a vampire and has clearly lost the concept of human death in a lot of time
@@megablueflash1816 I suppose so, buuuut… All the female fighters: *glares at you*💢 Skull Heart: Yeah…I’m gonna use this chance to sneak on outta hear…💀
i gotta say i love how dahlia is characterized here. shes the psycho who enjoys killinf at first, but we see some really interesting sides to her and some interesting motivations for her. man the skull girl team has damn good writers.
It's kinda weird that Dahlia's story wasn't just Dahlia kills the Skullgirls roster, or that she didn't at least say a word before putting a bullet in Filia.
Watching Dahlia kill Marie at the start was the equivalent of the Avengers killing Thanos 10 mins in the movie, I was like "heck yeah!.... now what?". But the story did nothing disappoint, this was truly entertaining
This sucks. They literally whooped out an immortality-counter-attack move on her, TWICE now. Its as if the Medici's have plot armor or something. Fuckin lame.
@@decidueyezealot8611 idek what to think about when discussing if shes dead or not, i mean shes a literal herald to aeon anyway fukua supremacy, she solos, best character, definitely the most full of story character with much depth end of story
@@miserirken I think all of the story mode's are canon going off of Double and Dahlia''s endings. Each story is just another one of Aeon and Venus's playthroughs of their game. They each take place in a separate playthrough. Most games have more than one ending. Marie's will most likely be the true ending tho.
Technically she isn’t right now, since she’s only canon on that specific timeline. Marie will definitely be the true canon timeline, and if fukua makes a appearance… then she’s officially canon!
NOW I GET IT. in the spanish subtitles fukua doesnt say "hourglass-waisted" (refering to aeon) she says "bee-waisted" (inglish would be "wasp-waisted") so it left the impression that she was insulting either bookie or one of the bunnies. Or hive for some reason. And the end of the world line didnt really got across. Atleast for me Basically In the spanish subtitles it doesnt sound like fukua was sent with a warning from aeon. Between the insults. How she spoke. And the mistranslation. It gave the impression that she was just a noisy hothead punk Im happy it isnt that way
in all the story modes Black dahlia is depicted as fearless, heartless and full of sadistic glee... consistency is a wonderful character quality to have.
Spoilers. People have died… 4:05 Skullgirl: Shot to Death 8:08 Squiglly: Shot to Death 11:54 Eliza: Burned to Death 12:18 Vitale: Shot to Death 24:23 Ms Nadia Fortune: Juiced and Crushed to Death.. 29:27 Lorenzo Medici: Shot to Death May they all *REST IN PEACE*
@@VirginKillerSweater The only thing that sucks about Skullgirls’ story modes is that depending on who the “main character” is, they kinda get to invalidate or outright ignore the canonical strength of any other character that gets in their way. For example, in Umbrella’s story mode, she has to fight Cerebella and Eliza. When she wins, Cerebella KNOCKS OUT ELIZA IN ONE PUNCH so Umbrella can escape. But in Black Dahlia’s defence, she (surprisingly) used science to kill Eliza (used the drains in the stage to get rid of Eliza’s blood so she can’t regenerate, and burned what’s left) in a way that at least makes sense, at least compared to the more unrealistic kills and defeats in the other story modes. 🤓🤓🤓
I feel like we'll never get the original Skullgirls story. I'm convinced these events between Annie Umbrella and Black Dhalia (and soon Marie) are improvised tellings based loosely off of what information they had from the originals.
That's the point though; all 2e stories are hypothetical situations if a specific character were to encounter and wish or destroy the skullheart so we can learn more about them and the lore indirectly; but I will say Eliza, Marie and dahlia probably have the most probability to be the "original" if we needed to pick
It's likely due to Studio Rental costs and gathering the actors that they have to wait. They're most likely waiting for either Marie (Or the likely Nightmare Legacy) that they'll call back all the VAs they can to do all the Voice Acting in a short time span.
Dahlia didn't die because hid words made Dahlia more bored than making Ben die because instead her bored from listening Ben, she apparently hated Ben's rational chatter, which made him sick by letting him go for live.
It's more deep. So, basically I find their relationship incredibly interesting and complex. First because of their dynamic, hero Dahlia played a hand or may have even directly orchestrated Big Band's "early retirement". You could say this was motivated in an attempt to crush opposers of the Medici and the idea of heroism itself that BD so dislikes, but I think it might be another underlying reason. She's so infuriated that Ben hasn't turned out like her despite all the pain he's endured. Almost like...that was her intention, perhaps? So she wouldn't be alone in her insane world? Overall, she was frustrated because he wasn't like her even after passing for the same pain.
This was... boring as hell. I just played through it, I expected something interesting, but besides just the post-credit scene hinting at... something, its just not as good. I hope pro players enjoy her at the very least.
@@eotto4752 Absolutely imo very well written and just rlly fun to see dahlia blaze through all the other characters while the main conflict is her conversation with the skullheart it is both very funny and very clever definitely my favorite
Not sure how I feel about Marie being Black Dahlia's first opponent in her Story Mode. I mean, Dahlia was just released a few days ago, meaning people would probably have a difficult time trying her out. I should know, because the moment I got Black Dahlia, I immediately went to her Story Mode and it took me about a dozen tries before I beat Marie and continued with her story. And the make things weirder, the fights that happened after Marie were easier. But on the other hand, seeing Fukua actually appear in a Story Mode that isn't her's is a nice addition.
I wouldn't say Eliza is pure evil, she's selfish so she serves herself good even at the cost of other's misery. Dahlia is pure evil, she wants what she wants but it won't necessarily do her good, she'll be fine with despair as long as she's entertained
considering the ending was a DOOM reference, can some pul-EEZE make a DOOM Wad or even entire fangame where you play as Black Dahlia? that would be AWESOME!
