Takes an artist with a lot of patience and skill to build one of these. I just finished a in-grain 240 year old red oak cookie slab. Took two weeks, some ingenuity, and quite a bit of cash to do but the reward was well worth it. Keep up the good work.

Just amazing, start to finish. I was surprised at how well the wood retained the bends without some sort of template to hold them while they dried.
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
Thanks! Yea I overbent and would hold it until the moisture left mostly and then however much it snapped back i was okay with. I had a vision for the table which would require certain pieces to bend more than others so with those I just steamed longer and held it place longer.

I like the concept. At the end in the video the bend wood looks a little ragged, not sure if that is the case or simply how it looks in the video. However, perhaps the double router sled flattening might contributed. The work needed flattening after the resin, so the first flattening was not necessary and in the absence of resin to hold the wood strips intact this might have contributed to the appearance of messy edges?
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 3 года назад
in hindsight routing the first time wasn't really necessary, but the final piece came out really solid - not sure what you're seeing in particular but there weren't any issues with messy edges.

Such a cool table! Love it. I have the same planer. Where did you get the adapter to take it to 4in dust collection hose?
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
Thank you! It’s from Rockler! 2.5” to 4” quick connect port. Love it! Although I think there is maybe a Ridgid adapter that makes the planer exhaust go directly to a 4” port so it might even work better. I think Brad Rodriguez at Fix This Build That had it on his a while back.

Why did you put the dowel in the steam chamber?
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
You're supposed to elevate the wood off of the bottom of the chamber as the steam rises and it helps to heat it on all sides. I ended up not noticing a huge difference between the bottom wood and the wood on top of the dowels. Cheers
