With Rangers and Delta Force surrounded in the city of Mogadishu, a combined force of Americans, Malaysians and Pakistanis attempt an armoured assault into the city to rescue them before they run out of ammunition and water. The 160th SOAR continue their heroic work holding the city back, and resupplying their men on the ground.

The Americans were grateful for the help that the Malaysians gave during this battle. And it showed in the assistance that the Malaysian military received from them after that, both formally and informally. Military to military, the Americans had a long memory and never forgot what we did for them.

Help the average American, and they'll likely remember that shit forever. Just don't pay much attention to those vocal minorities that get huffy about being helped, or the like. I still recall people who have helped me decades later. There are people that remember me from nearly a decade ago purely by the sound of my voice and the rumble of my vehicle's engine. Context: Out-of-towners stranded in the middle of nowhere. Cougar country, bear country, venomous snake country. The whole shebang. Car's outta gas, its X-mas Eve. I come rumbling through, and note the vehicle sitting there with four people walking around it. Stop, ask what's up. "Outta gas". "If you got money, I'll take you to the nearby gas station" "N-no, that's alright, thanks, though!" Clearly, don't trust a stranger offering help. Good instinct, honestly. Better safe than sorry. So, I decide to mosey up the road... Feel bad that I couldn't help 'em... So, fuck it. Go to the station, fill the gas can with $40 of fuel, skitter on back. Turns out, they only needed about half of the fuel to fill the tank, but... Hey, they got to get going on to their X-Mas party, and I got to go home feelin' good. Never got my name, never got their's. I get back from a 5-year journey in Europe, and as I drive into a gas station, a group of four wander up and ask me if I'm that same guy that helped 'em. S'good, wholesome stuff.

@@doozledorf7036 Okey that got good rolf out from me, but to be fair in such cluster fuck, getting fired all around and with rpg's slowing down more than that would give Somalis easy targets and more vehicles would be lost, with more casualties than already happened. While i sympathize with already exhausted troops needing to do mad dash to safety, in the end it was safer for everyone just run than risk more vehicles and troops and what possibly worse, total road block from destroyed vehicle halting whole column. In the end it was the right call and would have done the same, since if there was such issue of some getting pinned down, tanks and couple apc's could be turned around in less hot position and go get them, rather than risk whole column like that.

@@stupidminotaur9735 a peacekeeping force that requires tanks and gunships is quite a contradiction don’t you think? It’s also not as simple as you make it out to be. The Americans underestimated the militia and did not take the situation as anything but routine. The militia exploited this. Prior to this the Americans had performed a number of similar daylight raids, extremely quick airborne raids with little planning, with one that also almost involved the shoot down of a Blackhawk as well. This was a specific tactic to deal with American special forces and they failed to recognise and respond to this. There was a significant gap in planning and communication between the QRF and task force ranger, with the QRF only being informed of the goals of the mission 20 minutes prior. As pointed out in the video, Malaysian and Pakistan forces were not informed at all. Finally, the task force left the heavy weapons that they had access to back at base anyway such as m203s and mk23 grenade launchers for the humvees because they were concerned about their use in the city. Tanks might have enabled the QRF to arrive faster but that would only be compensating for these issues mentioned

@@danielschmidt7153 The largest part in their training & success is their mental toughness. Many 'normal' infantrymen and military men that tryout for special forces units are all well conditioned physically, or else they'd be denied just from a first glance. The low acceptance rates is because the one's that make it through went above and beyond the pain and physical and mental torture that the selection process is made to weed out. That is why they're given the high risk and covert missions that can't always depend on a large force to complete because it would attract a lot more attention, take a lot more time to plan and take action, etc. This is why they're viewed by the civilian public, and also by many others in the military as 'superheroes'. They also gain exponentially more combat experience than a 'regular' infantryman in the Marines or Army. They may take on 1 or more high risk missions in a single night, night after night. @@Arelia39 there was a very small scene in the movie where the UN APCs came to the rescue but instead of being Malaysian, they were Pakistani. So you can imagine how disappointed the Malaysians, who were there that day, when they watched the movie. Not only they were left out of the movie entirely but to also be left out of history after sacrificing their lives to save absolute strangers just so the movie could focus on only the Americans. I know it’s Hollywood but what the Pakistanis and Malaysians did that day, was Hollywood worthy too. Even if it wasn’t, their role should have been portrayed correctly out of decency and respect.

Thank you for showcasing the efforts and sacrifices of the Pakistani and Malaysian peacekeepers. They are often overlooked, but not here. It would have been worth mentioning that the Pakistani tanks couldn’t follow the convoy all the way into the city (to the crash Sites) because the roads and alleys were too narrow for tanks. They had to wait on the highway. They would rejoin the convoy later in heading back to the stadium I believe. Shukria From Pakistan.

If Aideed’s son, who went to US for school and actually became a US Marine, and actually was deployed there, was allowed to be some sort of a conduit between US and the warlords there, things might have turned out differently. He’s now back at home and took over his father’s seat after he was assassinated by a rival warlord. Perhaps he would be a good person to write that book for a perspective on the Somali side.

they were fighting a big uncoordinated mob of guys with guns and rpgs, if they had any sense of command or organization then non of the US soldiers would of been saved or rescued, there was 1000's of them yet only a hand full of soldiers managed to keep them at bay, air support was so limited too with what was available was getting shot to hell. the vast numbers of the mob and being in their home town should of easily over run the survivors but soon as help arrived the mob was left dangling - and they called it a success?
