Black Hills Central 1880 Train Steam Doubleheader!

On October 3, 2020, the Black Hills Central Railroad ran a double header steam excursion to celebrate the operation of their newly restored locomotive, number 108 and the 10th Anniversary of the South Dakota State Railroad Museum in Hill City, South Dakota! In this RU-vid video, we see both Baldwin 2-6-6-2T’s pulling the 10 car train in Hill City, Oblivion and Keystone Junction.

I love steam locomotives and streamlined trains ever since I was about 3 years old when I watched Thomas and friends and also when I went to Strasbourg a year later

Mallet tank engines, something I've only ever seen on European narrow gauge. I suppose these would have been logging locos?

Yes. Both of these engines were used in logging up until the mid 50's when the few operating lines converted to diesel locos. I remember when I worked there, in the engine house, Mike ( our chief mech officer) has old photos of 110 with a different logging co livery on. If my memory serves be justice, it was Ryoco logging.

110 used to operate for Weyerhaeuser then it worked for rayonier

@@dough7944 yes, 110 was part of the Weyerhaeuser Timber Co, along with her sister no 108. But the alternative depicted in the photos was the Rayonier line. When we received 110 and 108 from the Nevada state RR museum they were sporting Weyerhaeuser paint schemes

You said it was the first double header. There was one with the 2-6-2 & 2-6-2t a while ago.

Sounds like the BHC 110 was isolated… lol… Probably lower throttle to hear the BHC 108.

@@AndreiTupolev wearing masks isn't to protect yourself. It's to protect those around you. There's nothing fear based about it. It's about being a good person who cares about those around you.
