"The Tragedy of the Fatalist"
After the encounter with Akutagawa and Higuchi, Atsushi wakes up on the Agency's clinic where Tanizaki is shown to be healed by their doctor, Yosano Akiko, using unorthodox methods. Kunikida warns Atsushi that the Port Mafia's guerilla squad might enter the Agency and he suggests to do something before things end up in a bad manner while Higuchi calls for the members of the Black Lizard Squad (which consists of Tachihara, Hirotsu, and Gin) to infiltrate the Agency. Atsushi returns to the Agency after a phone call only to see the Agency holed up and goes upstairs in panic, only to reveal that the members have the upper hand against the team to which Atsushi almost cries, thinking that he lost them.

dont count on dazai's backstory too much 😭😭 we get a bit about it in the dark era arc (beginning of season 2) and maybe a little bit more in the light novels but thats about it. majority of the fandom has just read no longer human and taken it as canon

No, I think it’s enough backstory, the final piece of the puzzle would be his past before the mafia, but the rest we pretty much have filled out.

I love this episode solely because it gives a scale not only of how strong the Port Mafia is and can be, but also how strong the ADA is. Definitely something to look forward to!

the characters in this anime are so well thought out. they all have such unique backstories and personalities that i cant wait for the anime to catch up with the manga

Please continue to watch this anime. This anime have the deepest metaphors with characters outwitting each other in an unprecedented ways. The emotion that is driven in every episode has so much meaning to comprehend. The storytelling of this masterpiece is a cut a cut above the rest. The most refined and tricky anime that I've watched.

some of the characters might seem predictable right off the bat, but in reality most if not all are hard to read. most especially dazai and some other characters that you will meet in the future. bsd is really interesting and thought provoking, it's one of my favorite part of the series. hopefully they announce s4 soon because the things happening in the manga are whack lmao.

if you're wondering abt the pacing, season 1 is basically just an inroduction to our main cast. seasons 2 and 3 are much better paced with a less episodic flow. and this episode is pretty fillery, next episode introduces you to the best detective in the agency and one of my favorite (granted plot deviced) characters in the show! hes pretty great and we get a bit of dazai and atsushi thrown in as well; more introspection to their characters and such. episode 7 is actually among my favorite episode so i cant wait until you get there!

ill be honest, even though this is probably my favorite anime of all time, episode 4 is weak imo. they hyped up the black lizard almost the whole episode just for them to get stomped and it confuses the power scaling later in the show because these guys are one of the main casts of the port mafia and we only get to meet a few other upper echelon members, so theyre supposed to be strong but this episode really just throws it all off. all we know for certain is that chuuya solos and no one can convince me other wise which is weird because that means that hes the heart of the organization since hes the strongest and by a longshot too, but he doesnt get much praise from the boss tbh, deserves to be the right hand with how powerful he is but he never really gets that level of attention which is a bit sad. bleh i just hate how this episode just throws everything concerning power scaling off and leaves you with a complicated mess. especially since we see how much the agency is "scared" of akutagwa in episode 3, just for them to stomp on one of the other higher squads like its nothing and even stresses that the port mafia have tried this already "way too many times". like are yall scared of the port mafia or not
