Black Myth: Wukong is an upcoming action role-playing game by Chinese indie developer Game Science, based on the classical 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West.

The game has been described as a Souls-like. The player controls Sun Wukong (also known as Monkey King) to fight through an assortment of enemies, with abilities to transform into flying insects or a giant monster.

On August 20, 2020, the developer uploaded a 13-minute pre-alpha gameplay video. Within one day, the video had nearly 2 million views on RU-vid and 10 million views on bilibili. On February 8, 2021, in celebration of the upcoming year of the Ox, Game Science released a 3-minute gameplay trailer, which showed the game's enemies, bosses, areas, and spells.
Release
In a 2020 interview with IGN China, Game Science said they plan to release Black Myth: Wukong by 2023. The developer aims to release the game for PC as well as main-stream consoles. The game will be sold as a one-time purchase with possible DLCs.

there are some who say the plot of Black Myth may be based off this "little known sequel" to the original Journey to the West (Saiyuki) this sequel is called After Journey to the West (Saiyuki Aftermath) and takes place maybe 200 years after the original story a new group was chosen to go on a Saiyuki and this group is composed of a new Sanzo monk, the self proclaimed descendant of Monkey King, the son of Pigsy, and the disciple of Friar Sand

so the plot starts when a new "stone monkey" is born from a rock at Flower Fruit Mountain, the birth place of the legendary Monkey King, and this new stone monkey bears a great resemblance to the Monkey King, the stone monkey idolized the Monkey King so much that he was practically a Monkey King Junior and claims to be the original Monkey King's descendant, he ultimately practiced, mastered, and self taught himself all the abilities that his ancestor once had and even caused the same kind of ruckus in the Heavenly Palace his ancestor did, that is why the Monkey King, who was now the Victorious Fighting Buddha, was asked by the Jade Emperor to discipline his descendant, and so Monkey King Junior was quickly tamed and humbled by his ancestor, who told him that he was fated to embark on a Saiyuki and attain buddhahood

it has been 200 years since the sutras were brought to Tang Dynasty China, but it didn't bring the kind of enlightenment many hoped, as most of the monks now a days were simple using the sutras as a way to earn donations and did not understand the meaning of the scriptures, so Buddha ordered Monkey King to seal the sutras until a new Sanzo monk was willing to go on another Saiyuki pilgrimage to retrieve the "explanations of the sutras"

according to the original Saiyuki story, before Pigsy joined Sanzo and attained buddahood, he was a married man with a wife, and in this sequel, we learn that his wife was pregnant when he left her to go on the Saiyuki, and miraculously, the pregnancy lasted not for 9 months, but for 14 years, so Pigsy's son was only born after Pigsy attained buddhahood and completed the Saiyuki, Pigsy's mother passed away from the complicated pregnancy and childbirth, but before she died, she told her son about his father the orphaned Pigsy Junior then spent the next 200 years or so on his own, he was considered half-demon, so it was no surprise he outlived his human relatives, and he eventually practiced and self taught himself the abilities of his father, but it wasn't till he joined the new Saiyuki group that he had the chance to meet his father for the first time
