I feel like this demonstration felt a lot more Dark Souls and a lot less of him having his powers, almost as if they want to show you there's multiple ways to fight and using all the abilities isn't the only way to win
if its like dark souls then he must be dead by now. the one of the main aspects of soulsborne games (also sekiro) is that every hit feels more painful . the potential for enemy to just 2-3 hits you

i think the spiders and the sisters are based off the "The Spider Demons (蜘蛛精) are seven sisters based in Silk Cave (盤絲洞) at Silk Ridge (盤絲嶺). As their names suggest, their true forms are spiders. Tang Sanzang stumbles upon their thatched hut while begging for alms and tries to leave after suspecting that they are demons. However, it is too late as the demons emit spider silk from their navels and spin a web to trap Tang Sanzang. They are defeated by Sun Wukong later and have no choice but to release Tang Sanzang. The spiders are later squashed to death by Sun Wukong"

*SPOILER Ahead + BACKGROUND Story: The developer has told that they are gonna change the original story to create another version of Journey to the West (that happens after the ending of novel). This particular clip is telling us the story between 2 important characters in the novel: Zhu Bajie (Male) who is one of the 3 companions like Wukong for their monk teacher to protect him along the journey to west, while the 2nd important character here is ChangEr, which is the old lady presented in this video. *Original Background Story: In the original story, Zhu Bajie was originally a god in heaven but broke the rules by falling in love with a fairy goddess, ChangEr. Not only falling in love with her, he even accidentally caused a chaos in heaven while persuing his love and to get attention from ChangEr. Sadly, he only found that ChangEr has no interest with him and because of the mess he created, he is being punished to the Earth to experience unlimited torturing life reincarnations that caused by his love for others, which is one of the most suffering causes - Betrayed by Love. In one of his reincarnations, he became a half Pig half Man who falls in love with a girl. Of course you would see the ending of this one-way-love isn't gonna end well but he is eventually saved by his Monk Teacher and promise to help the Monk Teacher by joining him to the journey to the west, while helping and learning the way of life in the journey. *Game Story: The developer rethinks how the story may goes with the original story. What if.... ChangEr is actually in love with him as well, while breaking the rules of heaven together back then? Of course they made some adjustments in the original legend as well. In this story, ChangEr is also punished by the Gods of Heaven, and she is turned into a Spider Demon. Why a spider demon you may ask...For those who are well versed with Ancient Chinese Legends, there was a group of fairies which we normally call The Seven Fairies who are the Goddess of Weaving (An interesting fact why the Spider Demon sisters are normally came with 7 person even in the original story). There was a saying that one of the Seven Fairies is actually ChangEr. Note that this is a punishment for the love that is prohibited in Heaven among gods, the punishment by heaven usually comes in an irony way. Previously, ChangEr was one of the Goddess of Weaving in the form of Silk Moth (A bug that produces silk by sacrifing itself) with the spirit of scarificing herself to help people, but now, she has became a Spider Demon who weaves only to kill, not for love. How sad and irony is this punishment... Not only that, remember that Female Spider will eat the Male after the intercourse...Along the reincarnation of Zhu Bajie, both of them met in this life, but became enemies, since one is protecting his Monk Teacher while the other side is trying to eat the Monk Teacher. Because of their positions in this life, it looks like the god is still punishing both of them in this life in the crueliest way possible... But in this particular clip, the developer is showing the idea that when the Journey to West ends, ChangEr is still waiting for him despite after so many years...Is the groom here Zhu Bajie? Not exactly. It's actually Wukong changes its form into Zhu Bajie, and pretends to get caught by the daughters of ChangEr to have a chance to slip in this place as he has something important to get from here (no more spoiler for you). Of course, if you watch this clip again, you would see that the Elder Daughter and 2nd Daughter actually knew it's Wukong while the others not, but they still let him continues as they know how suffering is their mother all these years, and hope to give their mother a chance to marry the guy she loves along these years... Well.. sad to say that in this game story dimension, it's very likely that both Zhu Bajie and especially ChangEr, would still undergo the suffering again by not being together. There are actually a lot messages and easter eggs inside this clip, but the English translation here is so bad, it's like totally a different script with the original Mandarin one. If you know how many ancient stories reference as well as real life structures the developer is using in this clip, you would be amazed. Also for the song that being played in this video, some of the lyrics are actually written with the ancient chinese books reference that is hinting us this is a story between Zhu Bajie & ChangEr instead of Wukong. And if you look closely in the Spider Monster in the end, you can see there's a Moth at the back of Spider. Why? It's because this is a hint for audience as Moth in Mandarin is the "Er" in "ChangEr". This is why I wanted to write this comment so bad so all people from anywhere in the world could understand that it's so much more than just a good graphic game. Rewatch this video after reading this, you would have a whole new experience! Peace!
Here's a summary of the story. Tang Sanzang is a monk, he's traveling from China to India with 3 disciples, monkey, piggy and sandy (lake demon). They have to walk on foot, so they encountered many demons. All demons either wants to eat or marry him. In his past life, Tang Sanzang was a god. He wanted to be reincarnated into a human. So as an human, he's very special. If you eat him you will become immortal. So of course, demons wants to eat him. He's also very handsome, so some lady demons wants to marry him. The Spider Demons are seven sisters living in a silk cave. Tang Sanzang went to their hut asking for food. But after a couple minutes in, he suspects these women are demons so he tried to leave. But they captured him using their webs. Sun Wukong (monkey) marched in, defeated the demons. So the spider sisters had no choice but to released the monk. The spider sisters were later squashed to death by Sun Wukong when they tried to capture Tang Sanzang again.

Obviously the developer is going to take some creative license with the plot direction, characters, etc.. We have to remember this is being developed by the Chinese so the original story is very well known there and in the East and without any changes their would be no mystery for the players

wukong and characters inspired by him have always interested me along with other journey to the west inspired things, so this game is right up my alley. the graphics look great of course but it’s the tactical looking gameplay that has me the most intrigued. im super exited for this! ( + i remember the comment section on that video when you reacted to old footage lollll )
You probably seen the game trailer awhile ago and then all of a sudden you googled everything about journey to the west and now claim to always have been a fan. Therez alot of you guys out there and yalls comments always soumd the same
that first part is to just showcase that particular boss and how to escape from battle. He used clones to keep that big head boss occupied while he retreated. And at the check in point? That first option is to rest (recover), that is why the screen blinked.
This is so damn funny. Every person I’ve seen react to this new gameplay video misunderstands the part about him distracting that big headed mini boss with his clones so that he could escape. They’re showing us that it’s like Elden Ring, in the sense that the first time people came across either that mounted knight or that bigass dragon at the beginning of the game…Everybody either ran the f#ck away so they could escape with their lives and live to fight another day, or they got their asses handed to ‘em!
Even among other chinese games, I don't think I've seen a game dive as deep as this game in designing the monsters as wild as the folklore implies them to be
Literally waited like 7-8 years for ghost of Tsushima to come out, and when it was first teased it was going by a completely different name I completely forgot about it’s existence Until it dropped finally and I saw the gameplay and everything clicked in my head I think something like that is gonna happen to this game too, bc the first trailer dropped in like 2018 or sumthin like that
The spider stuff seems like the introduction of an arc/boss fight with the granny spider. May not necessarily be Wukong, unless it’s him disguised as a someone else.

The demon/yaoguai designs are what I anticipate the most about this game lol Especially the animal ones which, so far, have been shown to have incredibly creative and mythical-looking designs in the trailers.
I actually like when games that are highly anticipated don't put a release date. Much better to focus on the game and announce a date when nearly ready than announce a release date early to appease fans then not meet it or delay it

I thought we were going to see xiwangmu or her husband or a peach in reference to the story but I think I passed something about spiders in Chinese mythology while I was researching for my journey to the west styled story but I didn’t pay it any attention I believe there’s a spider goddess or demon but I can’t remember if they were another deity or demon/spirit that I’m mixing them up with
The old lady is probably one of the 7 spider monsters disguised as beautiful women in the series (I believe). And the POV character is probably Piggy, not Wukong. One of the many fan theories of AJTW is that the spiders actually fancied Piggy, and people wrote love stories about them (its kinda like Doujinshi, if you catch my drift).

Apparently there was a leak of a possible release for May 2023 but its doubtful since if that were true it should at least be in testing phase. Plus the studio is unknown and doesn't have any experience in making AAA games so its going very slow, it sucks since there's so much hype for it but it won't surprise me if it doesn't come out for awhile if at all :( We can keep hoping tho, fingers crossed!
I feel like this game is coming out at the perfect time ya know right after elden rings which got people exited about gaming again and got people to like more difficult/souls like games and now people are looking for a fun new difficult game like Eden rings I feel like this is gonna be the game people are looking for
The game developers said it’s more forgiving when it comes to combat and it’s more like a Jedi fallen order difficulty than the souls game, which I’m happy to hear because I never liked the souls games because of the difficulty.

In case anyone still wondering at this point: That giant spider boss was the grandma. All the girls are spider demons. Wukong probably transformed and tricked them into meeting the spider boss to kill them.
Should be a solid game but I think they still gotta put it in the oven coz they have a release date slated but there's constantly news coming out of delays and different challenges they dealing wit etc so even tho it's slated for 2023 I think ideally if I'm them I drop it in 2024 fully polished
