Hundreds of years ago, Wukong and the Bull King were good brothers. Along with five other powerful yaoguais, they were called ‘the Seven Great Sages.’ Wukong and the Bull King fought against the Celestial Court together, but they ultimately failed. Wukong was imprisoned under a rock mountain by the Buddha for 500 years. After that, Wukong began his journey to the West, a chance for redemption given by the Buddha. During the journey, Wukong and his companions encountered the Red Boy, defeated him, and sent him to a Buddha. They later arrived at the Flame Mountain, where they needed to borrow a fan from the Yaksi to extinguish the fire. However, the Bull King and the Yaksi refused Wukong because of what had happened with their son. The Bull King couldn’t understand why Wukong had become a lapdog of the Celestial Court. Eventually, as shown in the animation, the Bull King was defeated. After completing the journey to the West, Wukong was granted the title of ‘The Fighting Buddha.’ However, he wasn’t accustomed to life on Lingshan Mountain and returned to his home on Huaguo Mountain, hoping to live freely with his monkey brothers. Unfortunately, the Celestial Court, fearing Wukong’s power, didn’t leave him in peace. Erlang Shen, along with five powerful yaoguais (including the Bull King), was ordered to kill Wukong. In Wukong’s final moments, the Bull King finally understood Wukong’s situation. He too had no choice but to become a lapdog of the Celestial Court, just as Wukong once did. Mati, looking forward to your brilliant fight with Erlang Shen!
Chapter 5's animated ending always hits me in the feels. Just based on the little I know, it helps a lot to understand what it was saying. And the music is just 👌.
Bro, the fireproof mantle grants you immunity to lava, that's why you're not taking damage. Also, if you activate the mantle when you're on fire, it restores a big chunk of HP and on top of that gradually heals you when you're standing on lava or burning surface
The relic takes the shape of an ancient monster from Shanhai Jing, which is a two-headed pig, symbolizing being pulled left and right, unable to move at one's will, always stumbling over every step, just like the bull king. In the cut scene, it showed every crucial momeny in the bull king's life when he made a decision or took a side, but it seemed he always made a wrong choice, but in fact, he never had the choice but to follow what the celestial court and Lingshan had designed for him and his family :( thats why he didn’t say a word in the cut scene because it's all in the song. 😢
That chapter cutscene is what happens exactly after the intro fight of the game. The bull king was a friend of his and part of a brotherhood who promised to fight the court of gods.
@@AGuyOnTheInternetOO7 WUKONG behead bullking, that's flash back of bullking's memory. bull king never die, this is the presetting of the story. thats why bullking still alive untill he got the relic.
@@AGuyOnTheInternetOO7 the great sages of yao guais have multiple lives. this is the preset if you read JTTW and other Chinese mythology. For the bull king, in JTTW, he has 72 lives, which indicates he can get his head back 72 times. But every time he lost a head, it weakens him. In the original JTTW, Nezha behead him over ten times before he surrender.
@AGuyOnTheInternetOO7 because wukong was accompanying the monk tang sanzang on his pilgrimage to retrieve the sacred scriptures after he had freed him from his imprisonment under the mountain when they came to the fire mountain they needed the fan to put out the flames so they could pass as to what caused the feud between them i am not sure i suspect its because the bull king hold resentment towards wukong for what happened to his wife and how the court forced her to drink from the river of child birth as to so ig because of that the bull king refused to give wukong the fan so wukong disguised as the bull king to trick his wife into giving him the fan after the bull king found out he disguised as zhu bahji to trick wukong into giving him back the fan when the court found out they sent troops to help wukong retrieve back the fan
Agree, a few ppl notice the nice music during the boss fights. Sometimes i even want to fight a boss longer because of the music. And i think u r the second person i saw who shows appreciation on the music. Great🎉
Mati if you didn’t know already if you go into your transformations with 3 focus points filled, you’ll start your transformation already able to use their special ability. Makes the tiger and horse transformations significantly better
One thing Mati missed in this episode: The Bishui Golden-eyed Beast (the final boss of the secret area) actually has two other optional phases in the fight. It requires you to draw the beast near the ice gate at the back of the first arena and let it use fire breath or other fire-related skills to open the ice gate, and you can go in there into a different arena full of ice, and there is one more wine worm on the side, and in this arena the beast will use ice-related skills rather than fire, and there is another gate at the back of this second arena which are blocked by fire, you again need to lure the beast near the door for it to use ice skills to open the door and lead you to the final arena, in this phase, the beast will use fire again and it's more aggressive than its first two phases.
The LOTR references were the cherry on top lol. The horse story is sad. He went on a journey to become a better horse, but the kings he visited offered no wisdom (the ones we have beaten in the game). He decided to go back and aid his king and he died fighting for the bull king. I have enjoyed your videos all year man, I'm sad this game is coming to an end Sending love and appreciation from Saudi Arabia
Chinese gamers are speculating that Ma Tianba is the developer himself, Feng Ji (冯骥). His surname and first name literally mean horse in Chinese (Ma also means horse). Also, Feng says Ma Tianba is his favorite character.
note Ma tianba is also called 馬二, split of his surname feng 馮 Feng encouraged the team to add eastereggs to the game. He said fans would find out Just like chater 4, the chinese word 紫 (purple)appeared in the spider lady's name, and a lot of places, even they found both male and female singers have this word in their names, singing in the last animation. And the flower languages of the three kinds in the animation have deep meanings as well
i have been enthusiastically following your journey. its been a blast so far. i have had as much fun watching you play the game has much as you are having playing it. i am so excited for the next chapter.
Oh let’s go. Also mati, please make sure to go to the place with all the murals that looks like firelink shrine for the secret boss. You don’t wanna miss it
@matiasgago Fantastic vid! Just FYI that if you do the secret boss first you’ll be locked out of one ending (this game is like hollow knight that you can achieve multiple endings in one playthrough), but if you do it afterward you can got all the endings.
A very dark chapter, the anger, the frustration, the struggle ..., the fire and smoke And the color scheme of black and white with a dash of red said it all. Very metallic indeed. Good game play, Mati! 🎉
You’re going to wish you had saved the “pure cinema” title for chapter 6. Believe me. If you can, change it back to the “metal” title you originally had.
Bro Mati has been using the Loong Thunder staff but never seems to use the 3focus Point Pillar Stance Heavy Attack to activate the Thunder bane. Classic 😅
Yes the cutscene happened at the novel beginning when Wukong was fighting with the Bull King against the Court. The game intro is an extended tale by the game itself, where Bull King joined the Court to "kill" Wukong and got his relic.
I was awaiting this episode eagerly, youre an inspiration to people who want to stream some day thank you mati for keeping it real and appreciating the games on levels most people don't take the time to.
This is probably my fave chapter. The environment is stunning with the contrast of black and red. Enemies are just wacky and unserious. Story is cool too. Shame it's so short!
I just knew Chapter 5 episode will be a banger! Had to say you took out all the minions in the Flaming Mountain Keeper fight like a champ, Mati! As much as I hated how annoying the fight was for me, I did find it one of the most aesthetically pleasing & cool design of boss fights in any games!
Can’t say I was expecting a grab attack to have a hard asf cutscene but this game delivered for sure. I was surprised I didn’t struggle with the red boy or the Yaksha king even though they were great bosses! Amazing chapter all around just a few stinkers…
You are so entertaining to watch! Good job, for some reason I thought the Yaksha King was so easy I beat him on my second try, whereas it took me more than 20 tries with the Bishui beast, you beat it on your first try
So.. rough breakdown of the animation at the end. First some changes they made for this game : The Bull king in the og story didn't have a daughter. Wukong went against the celestial courts army on his own and not with the bull kings helps (although I prefer this version a lot more cuz it gives them a more Goku and vegeta dynamic which is ironic lol). as far as i remember from the story the wife wasn't actually that willing to give the fan either also red boy was not the last of the yaksha bloodline in the west nor a secret child bore from the river of child bearing, he was a full legitimate child of the bull king. These were artistic choices that I actually did prefer in this game (and let's be honest the real novel is 500 years old, as much as it holds up well to this day it doesn't hold up THAT well, still very much worth the read) So for the animation itself: A lot of people see this as confirmation that Wukong and Bajie were kind of villainous due to the way he laughs about killing the bull kings concubine but it's more complicated than that, Wukong defied the celestial court in many ways and thought that would get him his freedom that he so desired and the bull king was there next to him, even if he wasn't there when he fought against the celestial army him and the bull king were indeed sworn brothers, but the Buddha outsmarted wukong and trapped him under a mountain, only when the Monk, renamed Tripitaka, passed by the mountain after hundreds of years trapped was he able to be freed to aid the monk in THE journey to the west, this was him "following a Master and serving the rites" as he says to the bull king in the animation, he went on the journey because he thought that by doing and acquiring merits and title of Buddha that the celestial court would leave him be and he would be able to also shelter those he called family (including the bull king and his family and "the likes of us" as he says) but the bull kings family is in his way to the west so he is forced to fight them, which is where he gives the bull king the advice to follow his own master and become a Buddha so he won't have to live under the court. So then we fast forward a bit and Wukong is at the start of the game with the celestial army at his doorstep, he has forsaken his place amongst the court to live in peace in his mountain again but the court does not trust him, so this is when the bull king teams up with the celestial court (supposedly taking Wukong's advice and serving them to gain his own merits) and in doing so they kill Wukong and this is when wukong tells the bull king that "misfortune plagues his every step" and "never have you made a good choice" he's basically saying that back when Wukong was earning merits is when the bull king chose to fight against the court and lost, and now that Wukong has realised that no amount of merit will give people like them the freedom they want and is fighting against the court is when the bull king decides to follow the celestial court to subdue and kill Wukong. And for the little cutscenes with red boy that was after killing Wukong and red boy asks him "why did you choose to be their lapdog?" the celestial courts lap dog, further hammering in the last words of Wukong that he made the wrong choice again by siding with the court. And in the end the bull king never dared to use Wukong's relic and kept it in his stomach because Wukong specifically told him to "steer clear of his remains" Oh and the scene where the bull king gets his head chopped by Ne Zha (a character that I was sad wasn't a boss in the game cuz they are fucking sick in mythology) is from when Wukong was serving the court and the bull king chose to be in their way to the west (and the bull king is also like super fucking immortal like Wukong so for these guys getting your head chopped is more of a symbolism for being subdued) I really like the governmental and tyrannical subtones of Wukong's overall story and I'm really glad that they kept the spirit of it in this game as ultimately this IS a parody and created to mock their government at the time and such. At least thats the understanding I've come to have of the story. Hope it helps, I'd still advise watching some videos on it, this is a rough rough breakdown of the whole thing I'm sure I missed a lot and maybe am wrong about a few things, I'm sure people will ladd/correct me if so. Love your vids my guy keep it up 💜
the frog is actually a mythical spirit if u upgrade it to maximum level, it can throw out 4 elements each time randomly, if ur lucky u can throwing ice to freeze enemy then you have double immobilize at the time (apramana bat also can) or you can just upgrade it to the ice level frog, each component for the upgrade you recieved after every frog fight and your frog is on level one now.
Ma Tienba 1:14:50 he defeated the cart for you and also died then his soul captured by the keeper of the mountain. You defeated him and Ma Tienba at the fight then release his soul so you can now recieve him for the transformation, maybe a lil' sad but he died like a true warrior and still giving you his last badass gift
Btw, Mati, you could've extended the Bishui beast fight a bit by going into the crack in the wall midfight which would lead to another arena and change the boss into the ice one. Cave of ice and fire, remember?:) The trick was to let the beast break the ice wall with its charged attack
@matiasgago Hey loving the play through. And since you enjoyed God of War and seem to be enjoying this I highly suggest Asura’s Wrath. Asura’s Wrath is crazy in the best way. Besides the S-tier story in the real world, Asura’s English voice actor was literally coughing up blood for going into it too hard. One of the best VA roles ever. (Don’t want to hype the story too much for fear of spoiling you, but it’s awesome)
Inching ever closer to absolute cinema. Excited for the end of this journey and whatever journey the next game is. Personally very excited to see Star Wars whenever that appears (and of course finishing Hollow Knight, cause surely that happens, right? RIGHT???)
Bro why you guys are straight up saying out the boss name, I feel bad 😭Or maybe I am missing something like it was told before that we gonna fight him at some point, because for me that was a surprise and I loved it, wish same for mati
Chapter 5 felt like the shortest chapter for me. Looking back chapter 1 is shorter. But back then you were new to mechanics. Chapter 5 is short snd you have everything. It felt like you just start the chapter and before you know it. Final boss time
Couldn't agree more even with the secret area it definitely felt short but well paced specially coming out of 3 and 4 (although I think I made 4 longer than it had to be in my head 😅)
No spoiling but here is the key information from the anime that CAN'T be missed: The truth of Wukong's death According to Bull King, Wukong was killed by 5 major yaoguais led by ErLang, and all relics are DECIDED given to them on purpose, not exactly the same as the old monkey described in the beginning, in which he pictured it as ErLang was leading 4 Heavenly Kings and Juling Shen to defeat Wukong, and the relics themselves chose stay hidden, odd. Obviously the old monkey was lying or he only told the destined one part of the truth but why? That leads to the biggest mystery of the game, WHO is the old monkey and what's his stance?? Until today, people still arguing about it and it remains unconfirmed.
A friendly reminder, before you defeat the final boss in Chapter 6, remember to go back to the tower in Chapter 3 to defeat the hidden boss, so that you can unlock the good ending. In addition, I really like your videos. I didn't expect it to end soon. I'm a little reluctant.
Haven't seen the whole video yet but I think you at least missed a few chests, just before chapter 4 last boss arena. You can actually miss it completely (provided you never return there) if you beat the Hundred Eye Daoist first try. Also, the big tree close to secret area painting had a box with a curio. I missed it too, it is quite hard to spot even though it is in plain sight.
