@@TheKingInHiding No doubt. I had a thimble that Jim used to play with...unfortunately it went in house fire...along with Alot of other BOA collectibles! But still Thank God for the memories 🙏 ❤
yes Big time...I knew BOA band mates personally back in the day and Facebook friends with two of them now...Anyway, David Lee Roth and Axel drew much from Jim Dandy, very very true.....Jim Dandy was a good front man,he made the band....What great times we had in Memphis back in the 1970,s........
I don't. Know why BOA is not in the Hall. Of Fame. I saw them every time they played in NYC.They never stopped. Jumping around and were definitly the best live band in addition to being the first ones to use. 3 guitars and their duels were kick"n.Besides having maybe the best front man ever, Jim Dandý always made a great speech as. an intro to every song. The livealbums Raunch n Roll and Murha clearly show their high energy. And in addition to the slew of great axemen there was one of the best drummers in Tommy Aldridge. When Ruby'Starr made an appearance the house went wild, I had the luck to smoke a spliff with JD and Ricky Lee Reynolds at the Lonestar Cafe upstairs and JD gave me an awesome compliment we are the same type of people, a pair of rebels (this was on the Black. Attack is Back tòur.Thursday.. Despite. a few deaths, lineup changes and the passage of time they will live in my heart forever
BOA doesn’t get the credit they deserve in Rock History ! It’s almost as if they’re forgotten by everybody ! In the early 70’s they basically headlined every big outdoor rock festival . California Jam at Ontario Speedway with several hundred thousand people and the Carolina Jam at Charlotte Speedway several hundred thousand people just to name a few shows lol! And Tommy Aldridge who left BOA to play in Ozzie Osborn’s solo band! As well as playing for Pat Travers Band and later Whitesnake!
They were a very tight band, a great opening act and always fun to watch. They aren't in the HOF because although they toured non-stop, their management was satisfied to bring in steady money playing 300 small gigs year after year, but never took the chance to move up to the next level. It's not because they didn't work hard. They definitely did. I saw them 4 or 5 times in the early 70's and was always impressed. If I had a vote, I would have voted yes. Sadly, those days are long gone.
I saw them in, I believe, 75. With Foghat, in Murray, KY at Murray State University. In a rather small indoor arena. Unfortunately, they were loud enough to fill Soldier Field. Loud enough, even Jim Dandy's talking between songs was overdriven and hard to understand. You have asked me that night what songs they played, I wouldn't have been able to tell you, it was all like white noise because it was just that loud. I was, and still am, a big fan, so it was a big disappointment. To make the night worse, Foghat's performance was the sloppiest I've ever seen outside of a local bar band. Screwing up enough, even they stumbled to a stop to regroup. I really would have loved to seen either band again, in maybe a better venue or at least a better run show. I wish I could pinpoint the date. But, no ticket stubs, didn't save them back then. And, this is one of the handful of concerts I've not been able to track down via searching online documentation of an artist's touring history (setlist.fm, fan sites, etc). I saw two shows (at least...) at Murray State, can't find either documented. The other was Angel/Rush/BOC. There's also show I saw in 75, in Evansville, IN that I can't document. It was Hydra/Outlaws/?/Ted Nugent/Montrose. The '?' because they were a no show and I don't even remember who it was supposed to be.
I saw them quite a few times. The outdoor shows were generally better because of distance. You know the volume wasn't blowing your head off. But I did some early shows in smaller venues in NYC that were really good. I think I actually saw them at Max's.
April 23, 1974 Green Bay, WI Montrose w/ Sammy Hagar, REO Speedwagon, and the incredible Black Oak Arkansas. I think Harvey was still with them at this time. Jim Dandy was on fire that night. LOL After the encore they smashed all the guitars.@@cover557
