As far as cross-cultural stuff is concerned... I'll just say that when I was a kid I was taught to be respectful of other peoples' things, especially homes, and never to assume that my house rules were the same as theirs. So I was the most respectful child house-guest you've ever seen. I take that same approach to foreign nations. I've been to the UK twice and Thailand once, and basically I did my best not to tread on anyone's' toes. I was respectful towards the people who lived there, asked questions when I needed clarification, and wasn't an entitled ass. Some of the hotel workers in Thailand were particularly hospitable and helped make the trip extra memorable

A bit more info about the court story that came out recently: He actually got his license back prior to the hearing, but the court he was reporting to never got that update.

Update: It gets wilder. Turns out the reason for the "clerical error" of the clearance to lift the suspension never being sent is because he never paid the fee to have it lifted. Even if he had paid the fee, though, it wouldn't have mattered much because get this: He never had a license to drive to begin with.
