I love it how the lyrics twist and turn and in the end, even through all the darkness and evil, faith is preserved. This is really a good allegory for fighting depression, no matter how shit your life is, no matter how shitty you feel, you keep going and even if you feel stupid about being optimistic or even constructive, when you feel totally dead inside, you still keep at it, building yourself up, and through the darkness you'll bring light into your life. This song embodies perseverance! Inspiring!
I listened to Black Sabbath when I was about 14 yrs old, and now I am 63. It sounded amazing back then, and almost “other worldly.” Now, as I listen to the lyrics today, I can tell that there is a lot of deep thought and feelings that are expressed. Just to mention: I do thing that Ozzy (or the writer of the lyrics) states very clearly in this song that he believes that God is not dead. When Ozzy says “God is dead... God is dead... Right.” That is, to me, said in a way that shows sarcasm. It is not what he really believes. That part of the lyrics is said “in jest,” ie, not seriously. Ozzy is searching for purpose and meaning in life, but it just seems too elusive, just too hard to grasp and lay hold of. I use to get depressed by having so many doubts and fears about my life. But now, as a believer and follower of Jesus, I am mentally and emotionally healthy, and at peace with God. Blessings! Mark

We don’t deserve a place. This Earth is our place, and we’re fucking it up and everybody in it. Even the nice kind people can be assholes and judgmental. Only thing we deserve is extinction.
It was already said that the world will get worse and worse in the final days. These things have to come so that the prophecy can be fulfilled. God literally prepared a place for the people who are worthy of the new world.
This song is a true work of art, it really shows in depth, (if perceived correctly), how people's emotions, pessimistic thoughts, and misfortunes can mislead them into doubting their beliefs; well that is what take from this at least. The day of my grandmother's funeral I was a pallbearer. Holding up her casket with both hands my phone in my pocket started playing songs out loud. It must of brush up against my leg or something and just so happens this song was playing loud. Everyone started starring at me and it was not like I could set down her casket so they were forced to listen for a good 1:30 while it played over the priest.......Oh boy the looks I got that day

If God is real we would need an outside resource that only focuses on factual evidence and doesn't waste time on loose information and parables. Honestly if he would just reveal himself in the modern era and actually fixed some of the worlds problems for once, that would probably suffice for most people. As it stands, a God that chooses to remain mysterious when his people need him is the same as not having a God at all.

We humans need to find patterns and when things are random we seek for a pattern and if nothing makes sense we say gods did it. When in reality we are just a small blip in universe and will be not of importance if we expand out to other galaxy. All things bad like cancer are normally random who get it. Storms lay waste to careful tilled land and gold springs from idle feet.
We don't have a need to find patterns. We have a tendency to discover them, even if they don't actually exist. That said the notion that God and science contradict each other and the fact that this is something people fight over is the stupidest thing I've heard of. Science exists and it is correct, however this doesn't mean that God doesn't exist. This whole conversation is simply absurd.
