There’s is a reason why they sound so heavy and like no one else, they pioneered Heavy Metal. Nothing before them sounded like this! The lyric is “ I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could but it’s too late”.

It's been said the three main bands for hard rock and heavy metal are: Sabbath, Purple and Zeppelin. Although if you want to get into the debate of the first hard rock or metal song, you'd have to go with the Kinks- You really got me. When he talks he speaks perfectly fine and is easily understood. He stutters when he is nervous. MTV purposefully would shove camera's in his face and chase him around to agitate and get him to stutter. Then they would gather all the stuttering footage and edit it together to convince simpletons that's the way he always is to boost their ratings.

The " I tell you to end your life " one was one I had until age 14 when my dad told me the actual lyrics. Suicide Solution was a big one. I believe some kid parents blamed that song and the lyrics for their sons Suicide/ death. The song actually talks about how drinking yourself to death or killing yourself Is not the solution. Ozzy when he was just a pup At age 17 guitarist Tony Iommi lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers of his right hand while working at a sheet metal factory, so he uses metal tips on those fingers when he plays. I've always thought that those metal fingertips pressing the strings against the neck are part of what makes his guitar playing unique.

There were other influences to some point, but basically Black Sabbath were the creators of the genre of Heavy Metal. One cannot underestimate Ozzy as a part of the band, but when he left for awhile, Ronnie James Dio became the vocalist and their music with him is also amazing. For Ozzy, Iron Man, the Wizard (which has harmonica), or War Pigs would be at the top of the list to listen to. For Sabbath with Dio, Heaven and Hell is a masterpiece IMO. BTW, you should read up on how guitarist Tony Iommi lost the tips of his fingers in an accident. And how the actually helped him create his unique sound. It's an amazing story of how one can take adversity and turn it to strength!

Tony Iommi = The Riff Master! OMG, J. No No No ... the verse goes "... and so as you hear these words telling you now of my fate, I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could but I'm too late"! No ending life, etc. No No No. So much of Black Sabbath is misunderstood, one should really have Lyrics on screen or nearby to fully understand their messaging. Love the channel. More Black Sabbath, please!

Yeah, this was young Ozzy in 1970... he would have been around 21 - 22 yrs old at the time. 'Paranoid' was THE song that defined Ozzy's musical direction and he still performs it in concert today. It came about when Sabbath were recording their 2nd album in 1970, the producer wanted another song to fill the record... so Tony Iommi (guitar) came up w/ the riff, Geezer Butler (bass) wrote the lyric... Ozzy came up w/ the melody and it was jammed and recorded in hours. Sabbath thought it was too commercial, but the record company loved it. Initially, the 2nd Black Sabbath album was called 'War pigs'... but their label was nervous about that title while the Vietnam war was still ongoing, so they changed it to 'Paranoid' ... it went to #1 on the UK charts and was a massive hit in the US.

They are all killing it. Raw and heavy. Bill Ward, the drummer does not get enough credit, very tight and jazzy. Sabbath swings. Geezer Butler on bass, thick and tight with the drummer. Great guitar from Tony, he pioneered a lot of the elements of heavy metal. Honestly, it's extremely blues based. Good comment on the drummer!

Ozzys voice is an overlay of studio effects. In this case alot of reverb and a tight/slapback echo. As tech progressed, to like diary of a madman, there were several effects from a chorus, verb, delay....all overlayed.

Black Sabbath was considered the first true heavy metal band. The unique sound of Tony Iommi's guitar was courtesy of homemade prosthetic fingertips; he had lost them while working at a factory when he was 17. The term "heavy metal" was first coined in the song "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf, and the first heavy metal song is considered to be Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". I may have mentioned this already, but Black Sabbath, Rainbow, and Deep Purple all had "revolving door" lineups. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, these bands frequently exchanged members. The singers of both Black Sabbath (Ozzy) and Deep Purple (David Coverdale) went on to successful solo careers in the 1980s and 1990s (Coverdale's band, Whitesnake, is one I would recommend).

Black Sabbath are the reason I'm a proud metalhead today! Ozzy's voice is incredible and unmistakable. It's got sort of an echoing effect. Tony Iommi's guitar playing is beyond legendary! He plays like that due to a smelting accident that cut off the tips of his fingers. Geezer Butler is the most underrated bass players ever. Bill Ward's drumming is unparalleled except for John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Bill Ward is an amazing songwriter too. He wrote one prettiest songs alot of people have never heard. Check out It's Alright and I think you'll agree. Plus Guns n Roses do a great version It's Alright. By the way, I just watched the video of your little girls watching The Beatles. Two other examples of animated voices are Dave Mustaine of Megadeth (I think you've done only one Megadeth song---need to do more) and the "king" of shock rock...the great Alice Cooper.
