Black Sabbaths first four albums are all classics. Any song from them is worth a listen - there are no bad songs and some surprise with their gentleness and subtlety.
Keep in mind that the band members were just 25 years removed (1970) from WWII, and were the off-spring of parents in the Greater UK, who experienced, first-hand, the German bombing of Great Britain. The sirens that you hear, warned civilians to quickly move to air-raid shelters, and in London's case, were the subways. At the same time, band members, first-hand, witnessed the Vietnam conflict, which was never officially declared a war.
The song is more than 50 years old yet still relevant today, They recorded the Paranoid album in a couple of days no auto tune no pitch correction think recorded on 12 track try doing that today
The studio version is the way to go. They put a lot into it to create a musical experience, every song is like an excursion. Great reaction, keep it up.
Paranoid is the album name. Seen this album's concert 2 times and Sabbath's concerts 4 times in all. Was blessed to be born in the right time for this music era.
Another great band from this era was Pink Floyd. Live at Pulse With the song Comfortably Numb and then live at Pompeii part1 and 2 is real special being the live concert was for those who died at Pompeii and no living audience
Unlike the quite atypical Paranoid that you have already done, Sabbath like to take their time with their tunes. Tony (Guitars) gets the tunes going, Bill (Drums) finds the sympathy and contrast to the guitar riff and Geezer(Bass) drives a support between guitar and drums as well as writing almost all the lyrics, sometimes from a single idea from Ozzy. Ozzy would then add his melody to Geezer's words but he had an unearthly ability for interpreting them. They are still adored over here in their home country.
Try Sweet leaf, Ozzy was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bill Ward is the drummer Tony Iomi on the guitar and Geezer Butler on the bass.
Wait until you see the drummer Bill Ward on the live version! And I wouldn't worry too much about the lyrics in the live version as Ozzy just improvises lol
FYI, it's ACTUALLY the bass player, Geezer Butler, who pens the majority of Black Sabbath lyrics!! The lyrics and messages of the songs of at least the first three Black Sabbath albums are just some of the deepest and most profound that you'll ever hear!! Songs like AFTER FOREVER on the Masters of Reality album!! Very religious undertones in that song!!😮 I believe it was just their name and the fact that they kind of looked satanic I guess that caused them to be thought of a satanic band when they first entered the scene!! But when you listen to a song like AFTER FOREVER you definitely realize that they are far from satanic!!!!😮
Tony Iommi is one of the great metal guitarists. Sabbath really knew their stuff, even if it seems rough sounding. Later, with Ronnie James Dio, they had a powerful song called "Heaven and Hell"; they definitely sounded different with Dio (or maybe it's just Dio who was different), but they were still great musicians.
One of my Favorites by this band. Sadly it's still relevant today, Thank you two for what you do I always enjoy sharing time with ya'll. Love from TEXAS. The official video that goes with the song is amazing. Check it out if you get a chance. Try ZZ Top, Low down in the streets, Waiting for the bus, Jesus just left Chicago, Le Grange etc., etc,.etc.
They need headphones like the other reactors. I'm sure they will get there, they seem to like what they hear, when they get some decent headphones, these old tunes will freak them out!
Electric Funeral from lp Paranoid goes with the anti war theme as well ...Sweet Leaf After Forever being from the next album mellows it all out so chek them out ..
The live version will blow you away!! Bill Ward beats the drums like they owe him money. The entire band is great. And you have to be a bass player with the name Geezer Butler.
I love Black Sabbath, Bill Ward could just bang those skins & was one of the ones that inspired me to play some drums! Black Sabbath are the godfathers of Heavy Metal {and a 1981 movie you should watch} ✌💖☮
Black Sabbath always Rocks!! Some other songs about war you might want to check out: Metallica- One Alice in Chains- Rooster Five Finger Death Punch- Wrong Side of Heaven System of a Down- B.Y.O.B.
Black Sabbath is considered by the specialized press and by the contemporary public, as the founding and precursor group of heavy metal, Bill Ward for my part is for my part the best drummer Ozzy Osbourne is an excellent singer, Tony Lommi the guitarist is phenomenal and the bassist Geezer Butler is also of a very high level, with a quartet like that we cannot get out of very good heavy-metal, I recommend War pig live in Paris which is even better than the studio album where you can visually feast on the performance of this legendary group A french fan
good idea: better do the lyrics version first, that way, you can understand what the song is all about, then a live version to watch the actual band play. About this song, very deep lyrics. I can't say which war they were talking about, maybe Vietnam, as you said, but Black Sabbath were british, so I would have to check if UK was into some kind of war in the late 60's or early 70's. I'm not too familiar with british history, except the part that happened here in North America (USA & Canada). And yes the guitar was something--Toni Iommi was able to play fast and doing amazing solos, even with 2 missing fingertips. Watch this 3 minutes animation video to understand how he achieved it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YL9dWxkP8Qo.html Have a nice day.
Something really good for you guys to check out...Icky Thump by the White Stripes. Jack White is a musical genius. It's a two piece band. Jack plays guitar and synth and Meg plays drums. They helped kick off the garage band craze. They're from Detroit Michigan. As am I.
Great reaction, you should listen to "Child in Time " by DEEP PURPLE. They are well rounded band. If you do, listen to the live version. Thanks for the reaction. See you soon. P.S. do FRANKENSTEIN by Edgar Winters for Halloween. Thanks
You can understand Ozzy when he's singing. It's when he's talking, then you need subtitles. Gotta love the prince of darkness. I heard he caught those drums having sex with his little sister and that's why he was beating the hell out of them. Not sure if that's true.
Glad you did the lyric version 1st , the live version from Paris the Lyrics are different from the album , when I was in Desert Storm my song was AC/DC `s Hells Bells , As one Vet to another your Dad Thanks for his service .
As someone who watches a lot of reaction videos, I highly suggest only doing live if that is specifically what the audience is requesting. Typically the studio version is much better. With guys like Chris Stapleton that’s another story though haha. Queen “Somebody to Love” live from Montreal is a must though!
Faith no more did a version of this song which is pretty cool. Worth having a listen to. Also i would love to see you react to my favourite ever Beatles song, hey bulldog
You get to see Bill Ward pounding his drums with the fat end of his sticks in the live 1970 Paris version. Ozzy is wild and maybe just a tad high and the lyrics are not as refined as this later studio version. But I do love how this supposedly Satanic band refers to the Judgement Day for all of the ''War Pigs'', the hand of God, Satan laughing at the war pigs begging for mercy for their sins. Too late war pigs hehe! Tony Iommi lost a couple of finger tips in his sheet metal job early in the band's career. He had some prosthetic's made and learned to play guitar in his own unique way.
Omg.!!!! Now, definitely check out Ren and .The Big, push.. !! Red susspenders version War Pigs Mash it up.!!!! Prepare for the mind to be blowen apart.!!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧✌️🤙👍👌😂😂😂❤️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Ashley is DEAD Right, do the lyric version first, it is easy to follow along and also concentrate on the music. The 2 live performances of this song, I highly recommend, are Paris 1970 and at the legendary California Jam 1974. Both are worth seeing for sure You guys need headphones, when you can, to make your and your listeners experience better. You can hear the difference on line. You get an all around audio experience that can have wonder and magic with old epic tunes. I know you will be pleased when you get there, I wish you well in that regard. In any event, this is one of the great anti-war songs ever, it stirred up things when Vietnam was raging, and is still sadly relevant to this very day. We just can't seem to get along, how sad. Great song for sure, the structure and transitions, along with the message, are legend. That entire album deserves a reaction. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
great decision to lusten to the studio recording 1st. Next watch the live recording from 1970 the lyrics were still being worked iut before the actual studio version. Last there is a newer mysic video like 2008 over the studio version which is like a mini movie worth the watch
This was their anti Vietnam song. Not like the anti-war flower power songs in America during the 60's. They got the name Black Sabbath from a 1963 horror movie of the same name. They were across from from a movie theater one member said "Isnt is weird people pay money to see a movie that scares them. Why dont we write scary music.Thier town in England was nothing but ravaged buildingS from WWII & steel factories
So id like to see you both react to REN The tale of jenny and screech , its a 3 part masterpiece , His masterpiece . i my opinion .Hope you like it , and i look forward to your video .
