That's a great video. I just bought a small tree for my daughter as a housewarming gifts. I'm excited for them and for myself! Thank you for making the video. I especially appreciate it showing all the different ripening stages.
Back on the village in Mexico where I was born we had sapote trees and loved to eat them. Your video made me recall those chidlhood beautiful days. I love the sugar apple (annona). video. God bless!
Amazing fruit, I would love to try it but in New Jersey that's not possible. Thanks for the info and good description of the fruit and when it's ripe. Blessings
You can grow it in a pot. Leave it outside in full sun during summer, then bring it inside and give it lots of light just like any other tropical plant. A 15-20 gallon container or something that's 20-24" tall and wide is perfect for a mature potted sapote tree. You can even grow mangoes and other fruits like that. I grow figs in a large terracotta that's a little bigger than 10 gallon, in Ontario, Canada. Just ordered a black sapote yesterday!
maybe you know other fruits or fruits that do not necessarily grow with you, but you know that it is not difficult to grow them, so that in the first season you can get fruits, or can your friends know? I'm just looking for new exotic fruit plants that could be planted in my Ukraine, for example, I planted a marak and I will get fruits in the same year, I want something new, I'm sure you should have fruits that we don't know about or from familiar countries
@@АндрейГелик-о2у ANDREI GELIK right? The Black Sapote won't grow in Temperate Country Like Ukraine you should make tropical Greenhause for a better. Watch fordsplants from Germany he used Tropical Greenhouse
@@christianlloydcomia9138 Excuse me, you know maybe a plant or shrubs or vines, trees that bear fruit for the season? like passion fruit which you can get fruits in the very first year)) I am sure we should be, we have such like gooseberries, raspberries, currants, grapes, blackberries, cherries, strawberries) melon, watermelon, this is something that can be planted either with a seedling or with a bone and to get fruits for the season you do not need to wait 3-5 years, do you have such? I'm just looking for an exotic that can be grown in a season, we have spring-summer-autumn you can grow warm)) I will be glad if you tell me which ones you have
AWESOME VIDEO!!! Im Just opening up my collection and this was a very good video for me to get my spoon ready hahaha Looks like a treat! You're doing a great job ma'am! With Love from Melbourne, Australia!! :D
Woow it has been a really long time since i had it... they are really good.. Now have you hear of white sapote? You should look for it they are good too, but it has a different flavor....
We have a VERY old white sapote tree. The fruit are tiny, but I love the flavor! 2018 might be the year that we add a new variety of white sapote.... I'll have to figure out which variety might be best for us.
This was so awesome, thank you! I really want to try to grow this, a chocolate pudding fruit, from seed, then graph it to my american persiommon bonsai. Is there any way you or someone could send me a few seeds? It would mean so much. Just think about it and get back to me please! Thanks!!

I have never seen a black sapote tree with fruit on. I have seen small trees in nurseries and do like the dark green foliage. How does the fruit taste? Opinions seem to vary.
You are correct that opinions vary a lot about the taste of Black Sapote! Of course, it has the nickname of 'Chocolate Pudding Fruit' and some people swear up and down that it in fact tastes just like chocolate pudding. Personally, I think the fruit has a mild, pleasant and slightly sweet taste. There isn't really a specific taste I can compare it to. The texture is really impressive- it's pudding-like and very creamy.
excuse me, I am writing from Ukraine through a translator, this may not be written correctly, I wanted to ask you if you have seedlings or a plant that could be grown with me? In spring and summer we have a temperature of 25-36 degrees Celsius, I grew Maraka calmly, can you have similar plants? in our winter passion fruit withstands calmly and in spring it starts growing again)) do you have seeds or seedlings of delicious plants that you think they can grow with us? look on the Internet what fruits we grow)
That's interesting. It looks very much like a regular Fuyu persimmon except for the fact that it's green. Is the fruit astringent before it turns to mush?

This winter we're hoping to do several videos about dehydrating different fruits, and combinations on fruits. During peak Black Sapote season, we will try to devote at least one video to Black Sapote recipes.
@@IambiguousSegment That's right you put the fruit into a blender till its liquified , you mix it with orange juice and it's a popular desert in summer time. Try it if you find the fruit in the supermarket. They may have it in Fiesta if you live in America. Now its thickish and sometimes some pulp so I cant consider that drinking it in case you were being sarcastic.
I haven't tasted all of the varieties, but I like all that I have tasted. The 'Merida' (or 'Reineke') has more persimmon flavor than most, but its season is short.
today I went to the nursery I bought my sapote but they don,t remember what is the name. last year made about 20 flowers but all fell down this year it made about 100 but this year too almost all they fall down after the flower becomes black. from the pictures I sow online the flowers of my sapote are female. the exotic nursery I bought it they can not help me
About 3 years ago I bought the Excalibur variety. In the past year it has doubled in size and is setting fruit for the first time. I can't wait to taste it! I saw on another of your videos that you have this variety. As far as taste, is there anything distinct about it, or can you at least tell me that it's a decent one compared to other varieties? I should really drop by one of these days when you're open since I live in the area.
