As a Hot toys collector, I’m genuinely impressed by the quality of sculpt work on these lower tier figs which pops with a bit more paint. Aside from great body/suit sculpt, the head sculpt on this figure is also immaculate.
To be fair, Hasbro is probably using some of the exact techniques that Hot Toys also uses, to include scanning the actors and props, so that the sculpts will be as accurate as they can be.
Hello Nate, yes Bo is an amazing figure. The custom paint improved her figure so much. Your Bo looks amazing, a great paint job sir. I think Landspeeder Luke would be proud. Thanks for sharing your repaint job on Bo. Thanks for the video Nate, Tom
It's Sad, What You did is Exactly what We Used to get from Hasbro on Every Black Series figure before the Kuill Wave of Black Series, when They Started Cutting Corners & Cheapening the Line by Relying on Colored Plastics, with Little to No Paint .
I definitely concur about the paint, but I think the sculpts 2020 onward are on a whole new level. Sculpt and articulation have certainly got better, but I agree we don't get as much paint as we used to. -Justin
Yeah, please do more, and full length versions if possible. I've been customizing forever, but love any and all demystification of the process. Plus, there's a lovely Bob Ross quality to these kind of videos. Centurions Corner is the king of this format, but I'm all for getting more perspectives and approaches.
Can you someday gives us a tutorial video on how you do a black wash on like her hair and gun belts that give those added depth details? It seems easy enough but I’ve never done it and don’t have any of the supplies, so a walkthrough on what kind of supplies (types of paints/solutions, brushes, where to buy, etc) would be most helpful and appreciated. 🍻
Marky! The easiest way (and how I do it) is to buy a premade wash. I used the Testors(available at most craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels) black wash on Bo. I would recommend buying a cheap brush that has wide bristles for good coverage. All I did was dab a little on my brush and just applied a couple coats until I was happy with how it looked. It’s also watery so just be careful with putting too much on. Sometimes I’ll wipe my brush on a paper towel if I get too much on my brush. It’s pretty easy and wipes off if you over apply it. I hope this helps! -Nate
@@OutOfTheBasement Thanks Nate! Does sound simple enough. There’s a Hobby Lobby close by to one of my Target and Walmart stores, so maybe I’ll make a run over this week and look for the stuff and some brushes. I have so many excess Black Series figures finding some old throwaways to practice on won’t be a problem. Maybe it’ll be a cool way for me to expand the hobby and give me something to do with all of Hasbro’s underwhelming paint apps. Appreciate the reply and guidance.
I have never customized a figure and I'm still tempted to do the leg swaps on Balyon and Shin... (i need to obtain a backup Gideon and Reva) But as far as painting goes, which i see is common especially for washes of nothing else, my dilemma has always been how it would feel after... so these figures end up feeling sticky or bumpy or anything after applying paints to it? I would rather they still have they factory feel versus having that feel to it... I have never painted a model or gone over my figured regardless of temptation... how do the finished products come out feeling after you bump up the look of the figure? The new astromechs could use it along with a number of other newer figures, i just feel ill end up ruining my figures
I would definitely recommend the thigh swap it’s super easy to do! I also have a short on that one. But basically as long as you seal the figure with something like Mr Super Clear it won’t be bumpy or tacky. -Nate
Looks absolutely phenomenal. Do you mind asking what you did for the lower half and "clothing" to get that greyish look ? Going to attempt to do the exact same thing to mine.
Testors paint tends to not dry properly on the figures as the paint is enamel, if you are using their acrylic paint, it will be fine. I learned that a while, 20 years later, I still have a figure that is tacky to the touch.
Seriously great work!! “Most modern black series” uh to be “that guy” but isn’t “the black series” only modern? Also I think she might have more paint on her straight outta the box than the first 4 years of “the black series” figure line combined lol
Obviously it’s all modern but there are definitely definitive eras of the line, which is what I mean when I say “modern” I’d disagree with you though, the sandtrooper has more paint then 99% of all black series and that was in the very first wave. -Nate
Hey can your send me the default one please? Cause u see where I live there was only one available and it got sold out by the time I actually went for getting it, anyways thx for the special satisfying content ❤
