Cenk Uygur ( / cenkuygur ) host of The Young Turks discusses Philadelphia police officers detaining a black college student after he beats them in a game of pick up basketball.
"A video from the city of brotherly love has gone viral of 21 year old Samir Hill, a point guard at Allegany College of Maryland, beating a pair of police officers at a game of pickup basketball with a fellow friend. Hill had been playing with some neighborhood kids when the two officers had approached and started 'trash talking' so Hill challenged them to a game. Now that the video of Hill easily scoring on the officers has gone viral they have attempted on several occasions to arrest him on obviously bogus charges.
The video clips have been shared on social media as well as Hill's story, gaining him support from several professional athletes."

One of the kids portrayed in the movie, Lorenzo Carcaterra, wrote his story about the New York reform system and they made it into a movie. You should check it out. It is a sad movie though because they abused and raped those 4 boys.

Did any of you actually read the real story about this? None of that actually happened. The real story is that these cops played basketball with a couple of inner city kids (as seen in the video). Then, allegedly, two days later this same kid was detained by other cops for suspicion of purchasing marijuana, but then released on scene. The alleged account has nothing to do with the basketball game, and also was not documented anywhere except for the word of the supposed detainee. Amazing how quick the young turks and other "journalists" are to vilify the police without any evidence whatsoever.

I have one friend who was a Philly cop. He was a Vietnam vet and wanted to be a public servant. After a couple of years, he left. He said the cops were the criminals. Former PPD chief Chuck Ramsey tried to clean it up and left in despair.

Also this year a Philadelphia Police officer was killed in the line of duty after 2 robbers shot him in a video game store where he was trying to buy games for his sons birthday. Please don't be disrespectful to all cops because of the mistakes of some. Thank you.

When I was a kid, I lived in a small town and I used to get in alot of trouble, but for some reason i had to deal with the same cop every time, and he never once took me to jail, never once did anything unethical, I never understood why, he was a damn good man.

While playing basketball, The kid did technically "choose to run from" the police who were "attempting to stop him" so, even though he was unarmed during the "pursuit" he did cause "injury" to an officer by making him slip, so that means he was "armed with a cement surface" and, therefore, deadly force could have simply resolved the conflict. What business does that little race hustler have being outside, anyway?

They detained him so he wouldn't tip off his friend, after their business they let him go. What was wrong? The cops told him what was up, the kid cooperated, everyone had a fun memory from that day, and no one got hurt. Props to the kid for cooperating and making it easy on the cops.

The cop who got crossed over is Puerto Rican. He's not even old hes 24. It's wierd seeing a friend of mine on here and people talking smack about him. He is very intelligent and very gifted. He played basketball alot when we where kids. He was in a few teams back then. He plays really well also, so that's pretty much why he played the kid. He's barely been on the force for that long.
