Influence is a big deal. I came to my job wearing my natural curly afro among many black women who were wearing straight hairstyles. Well months pass & slowly I start seeing my coworkers wear their natural curls as well. All it takes is one person to normalize something. God truly is good.

Amen. As a european woman, I think you are absolutely right. Your natural hair is so beautiful. It cannot be copied or reproduced, in any convincing way, although many women try. It's yours, and yours alone, and it's fantastic. God bless you, wise sister in Christ ❤

A lot of black women low key do not like their own hair, the texture, the color, all that. That's why you see young black girls (cause that's when the problem starts) put in those long braids(aka protective styles), lace front wigs, etc, they're following the European standard of beauty as it pertains to hair. Plus we as black people are prone to calling each other nappy headed...! If you take care of your hair, it will grow, unless you have medical issues. Be proud of your hair, GOD gave it to you, because if you don't appreciate it, he will take it away. I've learned the hard way . Peace

Some medications are the culprits. Locs can thin hair, as well.

I stopped relaxing my hair a few years back, and it was the best decision I ever made.

So many of us need to hear this. I knew it, but still permed my hair for years for convenience and to be ‘acceptable’ on my job. Even after I gave up the chemicals I relied on heat to get that look. I still have work to do, because I still give way to much attention to stretching, twisting and elongating my natural curls. One of my relatives recently sent me a picture of their less than two year old granddaughter with near waist length extensions attached to her fragile three inch baby hair. I wanted to cry for the baby, her mother and the person who sent the photo who thought that was something to be proud of.

Curly hair can grow in any state lol. Protective styles don’t work for everyone’s hair. Scalp health and having a clean scalp while protecting your hair is very important. I big chopped 2.5 years ago my hair is 15-16 inches lol hopefully I will hit waist length by the end of the year.(3 years) I mostly wear my hair in wash and go’s, buns, and did braids twice for 2 months at a time. Henna and any Ayurvedic herb is what really changed my hair and i think it made it grow even faster. Trimming your ends when needed is also super important cuz those dead ends gotta go if you want all your hair to be healthy. We all have different hair so try something out and if it works for your hair, you found 1 thing that works. I try not to over use a lot of store bought products because most of them sit on my hair without going into the hair shaft. Camille rose, Alikay naturals, and As i am. Those are the 3 product lines i stick to. They work well for MY hair. We are all different but make no mistake blacks can go hair. I’m half jamaican and i’ve BEEN seeing black women and men with booty length hair my whole life.😅 Not to mention the women with the longest hair in the world is black.🤦🏽‍♀️ 50 feet of dreads or something like that… People gotta wake up and realize our hair grows like any other race it just shrinks more when not stretched. 🤷🏽‍♀️

One of the reasons I started growing locs I'm 11 months locd and my hair is growing like a weed! Never going back to life without my tresses I just can't see it. It was the best decision of my life.

Hello Joshica. I think you made a valid point in this video about not neglecting our hair in protective styles but now more than ever, in this anti-black society, we as black women need to show each other grace. I have dense 4C hair and know first hand how much effort goes into caring for natural hair. There may be women who also have dense hair and don't have time to care for it daily/weekly. Some women work in Corporate America where it is easier to assimilate and wear their hair straight than face the trauma of hair discrimination. Some women may live in a climate that is too harsh to wear their hair out all the time. Some people in our own community make women feel unattractive for their hair texture so it may be easier for some to wear it straight than deal with this anti-blackess. Not every woman wearing weaves and wigs hates their hair/texture. Even if some do they shouldn't be made to feel bad based on how society makes women feel about our natural hair. The main focus should be educating black women on how to care for our hair whether it is in a protective style or not.

The insights apply to all women.

I was natural with a GORGEOUS head of locs. But I went bald because of anemia from uterine fibroids. I shaved my locs to preserve them, got UFE for the fibroids, I take Diatomaceous Earth for clear skin and hair regrowth and Megafood Blood Builder for iron. I also haven’t dated in years and I work alone with NO coworkers so I’m no longer stressed. My hair is growing back and I’m gonna have my locs reattached as soon as I can. Sis, nappy hair IS difficult. Just loc it and leave it alone. It will be BEAUTIFUL, long and easy to deal with. And I know black men make us feel ugly. We gotta stop feeling desperate for their attention. There are other races of men in the world that EXPECT us to have nappy hair, EXPECT us to be dark skinned, EXPECT us to need HELP! 🤦🏿‍♀️

I think the best sollution is cuban twist or pre fluffed twist or braids no stress on your hair like the wig combs snatching your edges !

Girl, I as a guy started embracing my thick curly wavy hair! I use to look at my own people-some have that soft curly hair texture. And I use to press my hair out because I wanted it to be kind of close to to their hair type. I even did the corn rolls back then. Almost everyone was doing it back in the early 2000’s! But I know how to manage my hair now. I was raised around women and hung out with women. So, I totally agree with you that my black people who are the 12 Tribes of Israel and the African Tribes in Africa are definitely fearfully and wonderfully made! Adam and Eve were black- Even Noah was too! I’m pretty sure they all had woolly hair! The Messiah has woolly hair too! That’s the real reason why I’m growing out my hair because of Him! 🥰🕎🕊

Each ethnicity has a unique and beautiful hair type. I have always thought that a natural fro, no matter the length, is beautiful. All women should embrace the natural beauty of their ethnicity. Just my opinion.

My hair literally started falling out after doing the big chop years ago & it growing beautifully. Unfortunately, my hair started coming out by the clumps & I had to cut it off again which made me extremely sad! I had bad stress and low vitamin D.

Hi , how are you? May peace, abundance, always be in all your spaces. Let me begin this way in sharing my natural hair journey. My birth mother was traumatized as a little girl by a relative who applied things to her scalp that permanently damaged it. My grandmother died when my birth mom was five years old. So, that answers the question why another relative was doing her hair. This all took place in the 1940''s which speaks to the issues Black women dealt with regarding their hair then and now as far as growing and maintaining our hair. History repeats itself if the lessons learned are cast aside. When I was five years old my birth mother allowed someone to put what was called a Tony perm on my long thick hair to straighten it. I only remember it burned and smelled bad and after awhile my hair was short. I believe my birth mom took her anger and trauma out on my hair. Her hair never grew and her brothers teased her relentlessly. Lets move forward to the 1960's my cousin would sit me in a chair in the kitchen and for hours burn and pull my hair until it was straight. I still remember the embarrassing scars on my ears, neck and forehead, not to mentioned the smell of burnt skin. Lets move to the 70' and 80's Black people were saying out loud this is our Natural hair and we will wear it Natural. Lets move to the 90's braids came in and Bo Derek was all the talk of Hollywood when she wore corn rows. Then the Jeri curl came it was all the rage for Black hair.Then the updos and glue in hair. Now enter the 2000's weaves and extensions are all the rage. Now I was 26 when I had my hair professionally relaxed.That one time the product caused me to soak my entire head with the water hose and leave soaking wet was Enough for me. My late husband hated me wearing my natural hair but he didn't like WWW ( Wig,Wearing, Women.) I wore my natural hair was more than not was ridiculed by other Black women for doing so. Now the same Black women will tell me how they laughed behind my back but would say look at us now.We have to wear wigs because we don't have edges or enough hair to add extensions to. I have a full beautiful natural and my granddaughters also have beautiful natural hair and they know how to maintain it. I had to fight my inlaws tooth and nail over My daughters hair. One in law is a cosmetologist and tried to convince me to let them put a relaxer on my children hair.No and I mean No! It be our own people sometimes that give us the hardest time about our natural hair. I
