I think its to do with the Yami yami no mi, which is why he planned on only getting THAT one. It has infinite storage and so could possibly contain multiple devils from fruit, its said that the devils fight and rip the user apart, but if there is inifite space to fight then he could avoid being ripped apart i think

This is probably too far back in your timeline to see, but I have to put it out there. When Marco stated Teachs' body is unique, I think he might've been referring to a real world medical condition. Marco being a doctor maybe diagnosed Teach one day with a condition known as, Muhl's condition, tetragametic chimerism, is the most rare of all types of chimerism. It occurs when two eggs (ova) are each fertilized by a separate sperm (spermatozoa). Then, the fertilized eggs, called zygotes, fuse to create a single organism with two genetically distinct types of DNA. If this is the case, then it could be easily twisted in a way to say Teach has two bodies inside him and thus, be able to give a DF to both sides. Maybe Teach read it somewhere in the past someone else didn't die because of condition and it's just so rare that no one knew about it.

My own personal theory relates to exactly how the yamiyami no mi blocks other devil friuts upon contact. By sucking the produced power as it is made from the source. What then happens when the source is detacthed from its body via death? Not just the power but the source as well gets sucked in. And in the infinite space of darkness, no two sources need to interact ever.

The knife is just his preferred weapon. Blackbeard's devil fruit is darkness. He is tangible because light is shining on him in a similar way that Luffy is able to bypass the intangibility of Enel; they are counter elements. He covered White Beard with a tarp to block out the light. Now he can actually become intangible darkness. A black hole personified as he absorbed the new devil fruit power. As for why no one knew of this from the encyclopedia, it is because no one tried it. If the prior owner knew about the two devil fruit equals death thing then it is likely they wouldn't have even attempted this usage of the power. There is no way for us to know if he is limited in powers. The two options for why hunt for devils fruits are either he is using them to become uber powerful or he is using them to strengthen his crew and develop a monopoly on their power. If it is the uber powerful route I think Shanks has a secret about devil fruit weaknesses and why he was so upset with Luffy eating one. Luffy will learn the secret from Shanks and use it on Blackbeard.

Hey Tekking and everyone else i just wanted to also mention that back when luffy first met teach, right after blackbeard talks about sky island luffy and zoro get up and but have this look on there face as if they feel another presence there and when nami say's he they correct her and say its not he it's they.

i have a theory as we have only seen BlackBeard use the GuraGuraNoMi on his left hand but the YamiYamiNoMi is his whole body as we saw in the fight with Ace. We know objects can have Devil Fruit powers like Spandam's sword had the elephant fruit. maybe blackbeard found a way to put the GuraGuraNoMi into one of his rings he wears so he can still use it without having to eat it himself. Another thought i had was if Blackbeard grew up in the same village as VegaPunk and maybe searched his lab at some point where he was able to discover the secrets of putting fruit into objects and also where he may have even gotten the book about the devil fruits in the 1st place. Considering teach is a "genius" He probably had an apple in his pocket and when whitebeard died fed the newly created devil fruit to his ring or something and then used it's power by wearing it.

Blackbeard didn’t start his conquest until he had the Yami Yami no Mi. Everything he desired was dependent upon that fruit. He knew it’s potential. It all comes back to that fruit. Being able to draw in anything with Black Hole and the ability to negate other devil fruits, means he can absorb and control the additional devils fruit, but negate the negative effect possessing two or more fruits at once would have.

What if the soul theory is more prominent than we think? There's plenty of overlapping symbolism. Take the darkness fruit for example, and how Blackbeard obtained it. He committed the ultimate sin, betrayal of a friend/family - and Marco's words about Teach's body being different than most. My theory is it's more soul related that anything, or lack thereof? What if the difference Marco was talking about was referring to Blackbeard being soulless? Being soulless would be accompanied by symbolism of inner darkness. What if the Yami Yami fruit interacted with a soulless vessel differently? If so it could have behaved differently in more than one way - the first, being, the inherent darkness of being soulless could amplify the powers of the Dark Dark fruit AND could have acted as a substitute or primary soul. In my mind I picture it as this; when a normal person eats a devil fruit, the spirit of the fruit fuses or "clings" to the soul of the person. If a person doesn't have a soul to begin with (same with non-living objects being soulless) then it becomes to the primary animating spirit or soul of the vessel. If this is the case, then having the Yami Yami spirit act as the primary soul could allow the person to consume a second fruit, having the basic mechanics work like they would on the average person. What I mean is, when Blackbeard ate the second fruit, the Gara Gara spirit "clung" to the Yami Yami spirit in the same way it would "cling" to a person's original soul. The Blackbeard pirate crew is also highly symbolic. Teach chose the worst of the worst from Impel, almost like he was looking for similar soulless vessels he could impart multiple fruits into. As for the sleeping theory, this could also apply to the being soulless. Maybe being without a soul removes the need for sleep? Would also make sense of why when Luffy first ran into Blackbeard in Mock Town, Teach was so passionate about pirates and dreams. If you can't sleep, you can't dream. If you can't dream, the next best thing is ambition.

i just remembered and re-watched some stuff, 1. the darkness darkness fruit is a very unique logia 2. it absorbs powers of something the touches aka other devil fruit users, but only as long as he touches them could it be that this stealing of whitebeards power is something of a devil fruit awakening of sorts

@Tekking How can you leave out one CRUCIAL lead to the mystery that is Blackbeard?!?!?! The moment after Luffy's and Blackbeard's quarrel at the bar, Nami carries both Zoro and Luffy while walking through town. She comes across Blackbeard and after his speech about dreams and pirates, notice that both Luffy and Zoro refer to Blackbeard as "THEY". Meaning Blackbeard is not one entity or person for that matter. I believe that this is the key to whatever Blackbeard's origin is and to his powers.

Guro Guro yo me is an absolutely perfect match for the yami yami no mi. Think about it, get up close, nullify the effects of their fruit, earthquake in the skull.

It took a while to hit me but I believe the answer was in front of us the whole time. Blackbeard absorbed whitebeard's shadow, that's why doflamingo attacked moria and why moria went missing. BB's devilfruit is keeping the shadow from being destroyed by the sun. We can also refer to how luffy's shadow gave the zombie his ability and that moria didn't worry about losing a shadow if the person died. They used the sheet to block the sun, the reason WB's body did vanish was the smoke from the battlefield.

I just thought Yami has the ability to absorb any devil fruit powers, like when Whitebeard tried to use his gura and blackbeard kinda absorbed the power into him.

There is a theory that talks about Blackbeards theme and the 9 layers of hell that his crew represents and how Blackbeard represents the lowest layer "Betrayal" as he betrayed his crew, the whitebeard pirates and killed thatch with a knife that's supposedly the same knife Cain used to murder Abel in the Bible. The 3 skulls on blackbeards flag might still be relevant as it would work with his theme: betrayal; the layer only most devious people were sent to, according to the bible. The theory states that Blackbeard is looking for the ultimate devil fruits, the ultimate zoan, logia and paramecia. It also says that Blackbeard already has the ultimate zoan at that point, the mythical Zoan fruit: Satan Satan no mi and as the betrayer of god, Satan has been sent to the lowest layer of hell as well and has been described as a monster with 3 faces/heads, which would explain the flag and some more...

Idea, blackbeards darkness can actually function as a "container" for the devil fruit. It's not more than 1 in black beard, 1 fruit in him and 1 in the darkness

If Blackbeard's yami yami no mi has the power to negate devil fruits then what if he has the ability to negate a devil fruits ability in only one part of the body. What I'm getting at is this. So picture the scene in marineford where Blackbeard has the yami power in one hand and the Gura power in the other. What if black beard is just using his yami powers to negate the gura powers on his right hand and his yami powers on his left. I'll admit this doesn't explain how he takes the abilities from other people but that's how he uses both devil fruits. So if he were to ever give up control of the yami power on holding back the other fruit then he would explode and die. And that means he can eat more fruits and all he had to do is suppress the devil fruits on different parts on his body. This also explains why Blackbeard risked everything by killing his crew mate to get the yami yami no mi specifically. And he could nullify his crew members abilities in different parts of their body as well.

My running theory has been Blackbeard keeps people locked away in whatever that void of his is, and by giving Devil Fruits to those people he can access their powers via them being locked away inside him. Kind of like how Buu in Dragon ball was able to absorb people and get stronger.

It might be an aspect of the yami yami no mi's awakening because blackbeard himself says that his darkness can even absorb the "devil's power" meaning the power of a devil fruit so he might be able to absorb the power of another devil fruit through the yami yami no mi allowing him to use that absorbed power himself

It's also possible that Blackbread was hunting devil fruit users for his crew. All they need to get their power is be in possession the fruit closest to the users they kill. Seems like the best way to power up his crew. Even if they didn't eat them they can be sold for a lot of money.

Maybe when the devil fruit is gravitating so he used his dark dark fruit to gravitate the essence of the gura gura no mi into his body so that is maybe how he was able to have to devil fruits

I think the "collecting" is set up so blackbeard collects fruits not only for himself, but also for his pirate crew. Like, the invisibility fruit was given to Shiriu

Fun fact, Thats the secret of the D family, they could obtain more than 1 devil fruits. As Blackbeard was a former Whitebeard crew members, he knew that secret as Gold D Roger confessed to Whitebeard.

What if the knife has a hollow handle which keeps a cherry inside of it? A cherry is small enough that they can fit in the handle as well as be the closest fruit to the dying/dead devil fruit user. These knives could also hold multiple cherries in them with a marker for each cherry being the number of holes on the blade. This would allow Blackbeard's men to be able to get and bring back the devil fruits to Blackbeard. I think though that Blackbeard must have gained this knowledge from vega in some manner. I also laugh when I imagine Vega finding out about Blackbeard's two devil fruit powers takes a test subject and feeds it two devil fruits. As for Whitebeard and how Blackbeard was able to take away his power, I am going with the cherries theory again. However, there has to be something more than just death like a specific part of the body has to be destroyed otherwise why wouldn't the Marines have kept a fruit or two on hand at the execution. If they would have kept a fruit nearby they would have gained the Devil Fruit powers of at least Ace let alone anyone else with devil fruit powers that passed away during the battle. So It must be that the (heart as an example) must be destroyed and then the powers of the fruit are passed on.

I mean, there was that guy on Blackbeard's crew that had apples, to go with the fruit transfer thing. Perhaps the will of the D stands for Double, as in double fruit power. Or perhaps the knife has been infused with a devil fruit (as has happened before with other inanimate objects) but instead of it being a zoo it was a fruit capable of absorbing and releasing powers, transferring them between people. Just throwing ideas out there.

Perhaps he swallowed a fruit whole before he killed whitebeard; somehow bypassing the conflict stage of eating multiple fruits. I've also heard a theory that he's actually two or three conjoined twins (three would fit his flag) and by having one eat a fruit each they can use their powers together. This would also explain his seeming inability to fully utilize Logia like powers (he doesn't seem able to actually fully become darkness) if he was lying about why his powers don't let him turn intangible (which is possible).

i dont know if this makes sense, but what if it has to be super dark for him to absorb other abilities ( they covered white beard with black cloth) so.. maybe the darkness inside the cloth absorbed white beards power. i dont know i might be hallucinating xD

I think that black beard is able to have multiple devil fruit powers because of his darkness fruit, I think that because it is able to absorb things, he can absorb people and essentially use their bodies as a canister for the actual devil from the fruit, that way the devils within him never meet and thus never clash

Cerberus fruit theory isn't correct. Because if that were the case then Blackbeard would KNOW he can take Whitebeard's fruit. But we saw that his crew had no idea what to accept when he went to eat Whitebeard's fruit

Maybe he covered white beard with that sheet is so he can turn into his logia form, if you look at one piece almost every time a sheet like that was used by anyone it was always white, they clearly specifically wanted it to be black, so maybe the sheet was made of a material that could completely block out light therefore allowing him to turn into his full logia form and since all his abilities are based on black holes it only make sense that he has the ability to absorb and take the energy of anything he wants because that's what blackholes do grossly simplified, except in one piece it'll probably be other devil fruits

It's not unheard of that abilities from devil fruit users differ from user to user, I mean if Chopper wasn't the deer that ate the human fruit then who knows what would've happened. So it wouldn't surprise me if Teach found some ancient text or Will of D his way into this ability with his fruit. Blackbeard's fruit doesn't just cancel other fruit powers, it absorbs them, we see this when Teach starts chucking buildings at Ace. I think his fruit allows him to draw out or absorb the devil that resides in each fruit, now I believe that killing the user may be a way of extracting them for his crew members but I bet in total darkness Blackbeard can use his devil to pull out and control the other devils. Another question I'm asking is if he killed Thatch before or after the fruit was eaten? Maybe that has an effect on how many fruits a person can have?

I think that they just collect devilfruits in store so that every member of the crew can have those powers. The crew members follow him because he promised to give devilfruits to them all. I don't think he can swap the fruits.

Btw, i think it was in a filler, but in one episode (insert character) said to luffy, while nami was spying on them, that vegapunk discovered that any given person can eat only one fruit OF EACH KIND (zoan, paramecia, and logia) therefore there's nothing weird in teech having the 2, given that one is a logia and the other one a paramecia.

I think that he was able to get the 2nd devil fruit power because he never actually ate the devil fruit. I think he ate Whitebeard's stomach in the same way that Big Mom ate Mother.

How about mythical zoan Hydra? He intentionally takes the first hit with someone. It fits the mythology the weird body, the multiple heads and the obsession with the flare flare fruit as fire could be used to cut off and permanently sever a hydra's head.
