I am 7th generation born and raised Florida boy. The town I live in has a full time population of less than 700. The first time I heard this song it brought tears to my eyes. It felt like they had written this specifically for me and my feelings. This song will forever be my “Home song”. That’s what good music is about, songs that people can relate to. Blackberry Smoke is the epitome of “me songs”. Thank you guys for bringing us artists like this. Keep it up Backyard!
Be Thankful! I live in the hills in the Ozarks. Blackberry Smoke is carrying on the People. Miss Duain Gregg Ronnie Johnny Winter Barry Oakley Charlie Daniels. So many. Adios 🪴🌄🐴
I loved your comment and I'm a Florida girl myself p how to plant city and I know all about small hometown of course it's bigger now but the way I grew up it was awesome 😊
I could listen to these guys all day long, love that raspy voice of Charlie Star, I don't understand why they don't get more air time I never hear them on the radio. Five stars in my book.
I have 3 children 10 and under. I have used this song to help rock all 3 of them to sleep. Such a wonderful song, speaks volumes to me in different ways and relatable on different levels. Cheers. Peace and prosperity to you all.
Dear Lord I am sitting here listening to the story of my life and I just want to cry. I had so many hopes and dreams and now I am a 50 year old woman in the same one horse town living the same life that everyone else did. No other bands sing songs that are so true.
that is probably the best comment i have ever heard on youtube...you sir hit the nail right on the head ...these guys are so much better than the crap they are playing on main stream these days .....cheers from alabama
I'm from Libyan, this band it's amazing I respect them so much, I love country music Specialy blackberry smoke Swallow your pride just to make your family proud. Unbelievable
This song by itself is so much more than 90% of what's on the modern country stations. Great stories, experiences and emotions are missing these days. Need more of this gents.
now THIS IS MUSIC. why are we not hearing them all over? but yet country "rap" is everywhere. imagine drummer/singer when I here these guys tears roll down from my face because real music touches my heart...
We live in a world that LOVES superficial shit, that's why. No one can appreciate real, they've devolved to the point where they're unable to even recognize real.
Sure wish these younger groups like BlackBerry Smoke and Ryan Upchurch would have concert (times) for senior citizens. Wonder how many other 63+ year olds listen👂& love ♥️ these guys too? 💁♀️
Damn , heard them overhead at the local music store , I was like , who the hell is that ?? Didnt know people were still making great music . This has to be one of the great songs of this century .
Antonio Cardona I totally agree Antonio -this song should have won awards! Having grown up on a small island the first 20 + times I played this song it made me cry real big fat tears - it still makes me feel tearful now😢
Gotta love bands that stick to there guns and don’t buy in to the music corporate garbage. This is where the best most pure music comes from. Like The Dead South, Colter Wall and Tyler Childers.
Ya'll should really listen to Whitey Morgan & the 78's & Aaron Lewis, too!!! Aaron Lewis from the rock band Staind has got 2 or 3 country CDs out that are REAL COUNTRY & REAL MUSIC!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Just heard a band cover this song in Winnipeg Canada...all I could hear from where we sat was “🎵little bitty town” 🎶and “🎶one horse town”🎵....so when I got home I you tubed both phrases and low and behold....I’m here...woohoo! The Best search ever!! I’ve listened to all the covers on you tube and this original at least 100 times since. Smoking hot! We have a station up here called NCI fm with a request show called Friends on Friday....people including myself have called in requesting this song and they play it immediately. So glad we can revive good Smoke signals!❤️🎶🎵🇨🇦
There the kind of band every guitar player would love to jam with! Great sound and a great song with a massive hook! They would tear up the airwaves if they were given a chance!
God I love me some Blackberry Smoke! Such diverse songs with feeling and incredible lyrics. I have been following this band for a while. I have seen them 4 times live. I have seen so many shows over the last 3 and one half decades. Honestly the last time I saw them was one of the best shows I ever saw. They never fail to deliver. Genuine.
ive been reading other people comments and I can relate to just about all of them. I really love these guys, I can listen to them all night..and when i am layin in bed in the morning...I hear the lyrics to their songs over n over...that is how I know they are a really good band.
I just heard about them a few days ago. They are coming to Michigan, and they were talking about them. I am hooked as well! The funny thing is that I really don't like country. But, if this is considered 'country', well than I guess I like country. I like the 'old country'. like Conway Twitty, George Jones, Hank Williams Jr. and Sr. Allison Krause, love her. She has that bluesy sound to her music, which I love!!
+Anthonio Degravio yeah maybe that is what it is, I have been trying to figure that out. I love watching their live videos (NC being my favorite) because they just seem real. But I keep finding myself walking around singing their tunes? Torture for everyone else, but wth, lol!!
Darrell Latham So true!! There is a bit of the black crows, Chris Robinson in there too. But the great thing is that he turns it all into Charlie Starr and BBS! Have you heard the version of Ain't Got the Blues" on the Whippoorwill Album I think it is, where it is done like the old old country songs on vinyl? Awesome!! LOL too much coffee this morning, oops afternoon!!
I love this song so much and can relate to it so much, I have made it my ringtone! As I said in a previous post, it is like I was listening to the story of my life. I remember having hopes and dreams of something more, but here I sit in the same small town 50 years later....
Just discovered this amazing group of talented musicians, cannot believe I haven't discovered them before. There's hope for Southern Rock! Absolutely in love with them.....vocals, writing and such talented musicians! Virginia would love to see YOU!
Christopher Robertson. Yes l grew up in a small one stoplight town. very depressing place. This song is spot on for me. No opportunity in one horse towns. This song is so dam true and BS is awesome
My mom died about a year and a half ago, she loved this song. She was a great singer among a lot of other things, but this song really reminds me of her. God bless her soul wherever she is in heaven.
These guys have got to be some of the best songwriters period, of any genre. Every frickin song I listen to by them should be a number 1 hit song IMHO.
Amazing band. I'm not from the States so I saw them live only once, in 2010 at the Sweden Rock festival, but man it was enough for me. Boy, they delivered an awesome performance back then. Since then I'm a big BBS fan.
❤️🇺🇸I’m from a small town in East Tennessee and now live in a small town in north Florida. This is real southern rock and country! Not cwrap… country wrap!
Just discovered these guys n I'm blown away by their musicality n lyrics and they all look like men s'pposed too. Don't know how these dudes tour but wud love to see them in scotland. I hear we are good audience :)
I had a friend from Scotland, he showed me some old tickets from concerts , Nazareth , UFO , good rocking concerts like that, there shouldn't be such a thing as a bad audience. :)
it's just about 2016 and I am still listening to this song...love it. I sometimes even wake up with it in my head. This or another BBS song. That is how I know you guys are fantastic...you are always singing in to me...
In the tiny town where I come from You grew up doing what your daddy does And you don't ask questions you do it just because You don't climb to high or dream too much With a whole lot of work and a little bit of luck You can wind up right back where your daddy was This little bitty town it ain't nothing new We all stick around 'cause they all tell us too Swallow your pride just to make your family proud If I didn't think that it would shut the whole place down I'd ride my pony right out of this one horse town Yeah this one horse town I'm an old married man at the age of twenty three Got two little boys on the baseball team And that might be their only ticket out All they got is a worn out name And a daddy that could've gone all the way But I hung my saddle up and I settled down This little bitty town, oh it ain't nothing new We all stick around 'cause they all tell us too Swallow your pride just to make your family proud If I didn't think that it would shut the whole place down I'd ride my pony right out of this one horse town Yeah this one horse town Oh yeah This little bitty town, oh yeah it ain't nothing new We all stick around 'cause they all tell us too Swallow your pride just to keep your family proud If I didn't think that it would shut the whole thing down I'd saddle that one horse and ride it right out of this town
The Eagles, Allman Bros, Bob Segar etc yeah , thats the feelin right there. These boys take me back to a much better time. Southern/Country Fried rock whatever the label this is the music I like. Been listening to Bocephus, Waylon, oak ridge boys, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, etc lately.
Blackberry Smoke.. amazing vocals, and the music makes me feel like I am right there with them. Love your music .. my favorite! Keep on keeping on BBS! WOW!
I learned to play this last week and I played it in a bar last night. Everyone there loved the hell out of it! I told them to go listen to Blackberry Smoke they wrote it and do it a lot better job than I can do alone!
What a great lyric!! Something every small town young man knows.. life is short but its deep.. just dive in.. its only a mistake if you fail to learn from it. Keep it up yall
I love me sum Blackberry Smoke! Growin' up on the N.E. Florida coast with the Skynyrd homies, I have to say, that these fellas bring a refreshing, and yet homegrown touch their original brand of authentic Southern Rock. I'm a working musician throughout North Fl. and Southern Ga. and will do my part in introducing Blackberry Smoke's music to folks by including this song in my acoustic set and playing their CD's during my break mix. I hope to catch a live show someday when I'm not working! Hah! Great music, especially these acoustic sessions. Thanks Blackberry Smoke for sharin' this. Sincerely, eric alabiso
