I think that we need to have a conection to a pro camera as well, connect the camera to the Blackmagic App just like you show here for phones, totally wireless. BMPCC to Blackmagic Camera app.
@@DynamicPhil84 its a camera app...for a mobile phone, if you don't plan on recording things using phones, it probably isn't the app you are looking for, no? You can already use BlackMagic Remote Monitor, or BlackMagic Cloud workflows to do some of those other things.
The problem is that the Android version of BM camera is being developed by the former filmic team. So there are no surprises. A limited list of devices with castrated functions.
@@MobyFilmmakerthe problem is with android. Android strangely is very closed when it comes to the cameras and audio. A lot of work around but nothing like the control you have in IOS. And it makes no sense that google lets this continue.
That's fantastic! I was just looking for ways to monitor my camera feed a few weeks ago. The next feature I really want to see are some basic remote controls on an Apple Watch app. Just something like start/stop recording and a preview to check the framing.
As soon as you hit record though latency is pretty awful. I used my m1 iPad as a monitor for my iPhone 14 Pro Max and it wasn’t great. Great too got setting up a shot before hitting record though.
This is so beautiful, I've had such a basic hang up of making RU-vid videos on iPhone is that I have to use the front facing camera to frame myself but then the front camera doesn't have a wide angle. This lets me shoot in wide angle and frame myself on the iPad!
Wow. The new remote control option makes filmmaking even more powerful. Not just for interviews, but for feature filmmaking with multiple iPhones. Pretty wild.
This is a game changer. The one thing I would like to see is a built in telepromter or give us the ability to have the notepad open while using the app.
No offense, but as someone who has worked for companies who make mobile apps, we make more than 15x on iOS. Its the standard mobile developer experience and the reason why most devs don't bother making apps for Android or take long to update their apps there. Most of the time, releasing on Android is a waste of time. Again, not trying to do the iOS vs Android debate, just explaining why things are the way they are.
@@skeletr You are absolutely right! The Android OS is a real nightmare for developers. There are many examples where successful iOS apps were ported to Android and ended up failing. Unfortunately, it's the Android users who end up suffering.
Android is not for serious video work. I tell you high-end phones like Samsung S24 Ultra can't do 60 FPS Log 10 bit. I used many apps like ProTake, MotionCam Pro and BlackMagic. App developers blame Samsung for underclocking their devices and not letting go full throttle. @skeletr is right.. the Luma Fusion Android paid Beta version is stuck with no updates. I decided to switch to the Apple Ecosystem when I buy my next phone and tablet. Android's variable framerate, trial and error, waiting for updates, app switching, so many limitations when using gimbal apps, audio sync issues, etc have personally discouraged me from executing ideas that I want to.
I don't know what protocols they're using for the remote control but hopefully it's something they can use for cross platform so you can have iPhones and Android phones on the same multiview on a tablet, or even a computer. Even thought it might still make more sense to have the same model phone for all angles, sometimes you just want to use what you already have.
It's all good, brother. I feel Blackmagic should add a feature for custom file names. Using Meta, I can understand, but if they do like a regular setting that we name our footage project-wise while shooting, it will be a great addition.
Today, August 8th 2024, I emailed Filmic for the 100th time complaining about their terrible Remote feature (using iPad to control iPhone). Crash. Stutter. Fail. Again. And I PAY for it. NOW, I found this video today about Blackmagic app REMOTE function??? YES!! Free? YES! Works Well? YES! Can control more than one iPhone for multi-cam? YES! Hit record one to start all the cameras? YES! Oh boy! This is like Christmas in August! Thanks for the video! This changes everything! And.....for free!
I tried to update, but it wouldn't work, so I deleted the app and then downloaded it again from the App Store and it worked perfectly. Also, if you want to watch the clip that you shot on your iPhone, the clips icon is greyed out. You first have to disconnect the iPhone from the iPad to view your clips. That's a bit of a hassle, but well worth it for the ability to monitor an iPhone on an iPad. This ability is so useful. Thanks for letting us know about the update.
Another request for Blackmagic. I don't know if they can do it, but it sure would be nice if you could see a playback of the clip on the iPad. The clip icon is greyed out on the iPad.
This is excellent, love the fact you can monitor all the cameras on one screen and the sync start/stop is spot on. Just deleted the Filmic pro apps , the only one I’m keeping is the duel camera recording.
This comes at exactly the right time. I need to do some remote recording today and would have to switch to Final Cut or the standard camera app for that, but now I can use the Blackmagic App. Already tested a bit and seems it needs to be on the same WiFi network (which I don’t have since I’m traveling) OR the iPhone tethered to the iPad (which I discovered works perfectly, but I guess you need an iPad with data for that which I have).
And on what I’m still missing: a watch app so I can monitor (just for framing) and start/stop recording from my wrist and an option in the app to save user profiles so I can quickly switch between a set of settings.
OK, I just tested it and it works fine having the iPad connect to the iPhone's network...so you don't need an iPad with data service. As long as they are on the same network it should work fine. (although this will probably drain your phone battery faster). I am pretty sure you don't actually need any internet, btw, so even if your phone didn't have data, you could still I think get them to work.
Ok. You’re killing me w/these right before I crash out videos. It’s literally like I can’t quit you & have to watch it from beginning to end.👊 Also, great video BTW! Just ordered some new beast grip lens’s. Agree on great rigs, lenses etc.
This is great news. I had been wanting this for ever. As a workaround I was using APower MIrror, but this is so much better -- with the ability to actually control the camera. Thanks for your detailed description. I assume all devices need to be on the same wifi network. But that's no problem, but thought I would bring it up (Sometimes one of my devices switches to a public wifi network...) ...Rowby.
Im filming right now, switching between Final cut camera for time lapse/hvec shots or filming but hand with the iPhone BMC app. This could be the one stop shop ive been needing *IF* i can film in 60 FPS and *IF* recording to SSD on the iPhone still works in this config. Gonna pause filming and watch your video and see!
If I used a 13 pro and 15 as my main cameras would the quality be the same or diffenrt? If I want to use more then one phone as camera angles should I use the same phone or different is okay?
I would love to see an improved app that can connect to the Blackmagic cameras, giving access to control and monitor them without the need for a third party. It would also be ambitious to be able to control the Pocket through the HDMI port or the C port, since I have two Blackmagic Pockets and the touch screen system stopped working. All of this would be a very strong ecosystem that would alleviate most of the weaknesses of these cameras and would definitely sweep the market.
Great feature but it's bad and laggy when in recording and the connection doesn't work all the time. Your 10 mins is far reliable at the moment their update
So the ability to monitor and control the phone from an iPad is awesome. However, the implementation is useless the minute you hit record. The lag makes it unusable. Don't expect to use this as a monitor while recording because you get about 3 frames oer second. Sadly the Final Cut app has much better implementation. Almost no lag at all. I really hope BM addresses this because this is my mobile recording app of choice.
Now, just give us the ability to livestream directly from the app with multiview ability. I’ve been looking for it for quite a while and I haven’t found a solution for it. I do a lot of livestream when I’m testing cars and been able to use this function would be amazing.
Can you use the second device purely as a monitor for A cam? And have A cam be the controller? Ie. I don’t need to toggle between the two cameras, I want one strictly to mirror the other
What happens if you click the off speed button when trying to shoot 100fps. It's not a common fps so you may need to set your frame rate to 30 or 60 then turn on off speed for 100
New feature request: Allow Blackmagic App to let us choose to independently lock Shutter and ISO (like Filmic Pro can). That would be a great, simple, next step! :)
If I used a 13 pro and 15 as my main cameras would the quality be the same or diffenrt? If I want to use more then one phone as camera angles should I use the same phone or different is okay?
Love your channel. I'd like to shoot with fixed shutter speed but auto (touch screen to change) ISO. Or fixed ISO with auto shutter speed. I find it frustrating that the two are tied together. Both or nothing. It wouldn't be so bad if it was quick to change ISO with the Tilta Khronos grip but that just changes focus or zoom. Am I the only one?
I have a question, I have tried many things and they don't work for me. When I try to connect it to my tablet or any of the phones that it has, it won't let me and I get this note. No remote cameras available for controle
There's an option in settings for audio, as far as I can tell a wired or wireless mic that is connected to the phone should show up as an option for you to use
The latency kinda makes this useless atm…if they can get it down just a tad bit this is amazing. You can put a focus puller on there for when your using large lenses in the iphone
try turning off the proxy generation and live update to Blackmagic Cloud to give your phone a little more processing ability for the stream to the monitor.
AWESOME news!!! Thank You!!! There is rly little question - although I think I know the answer - and tiny little wish for the future. Is there a way to trigger recording of Blackmagic Camera App launched on the phone via Apple Watch ?? (Also is it possible to use Apple Watch as a view finder ?) But start stop from the Watch would be a blast. Thanks
@michaeltobin I'm surprised the app hasn't fixed a few things yet like the histogram for LOG and how false color shows up in LOG. its supposed to be the best app yet it makes it hard to expose log footage
Was waiting for this video, upgraded earlier today, and I was like when is Michael gonna drop the video :) In terms of the remote camera, would be cool to be able to record to the iPad, and live cut between different camera angles, for like a live broadcast or interview type of deal. It's amazing as is (and I had been waiting for this feature for a while), but needing to go to each phone to offload the video, so you can then put it on the computer to sync it up in Resolve is a lot of steps. Still amazing, but would be cool if you could just create a multi-cam video on the iPad itself. I just love this camera app, it's so incredible that this is basically just free using devices many already have lying around. In terms of other features, it would be nice to get DJI gimbal support, but that is probably a wish list thing. Would also be cool to have a built in Time Code generator for multicam (even if not the highest accuracy, would probably be better than using sound waves to sync in post).
Here's the last thing on my list: That CLEAN HDMI OUT doesn't BLACK OUT when you go into Settings. Oh... one more thing... BMD would just have to check one box to let the iPad version work for monitoring on macOS and M Series Macs.
The title could not be more straight forward. Literally talking about the Blackmagic camera app….and then remote monitoring. Sure I can see you might hope like we would all love that feature for cinema cameras but no it is not misleading. You miss interpreted.
Hi Michael thx for these Video but how can I update the BMD App? I live in Germany and it seems to be to early yet to get this App from the App store now. Also in the App there is no Button to check for updates isn‘t it? regards, Roland
