@@theslavicharuspex I’ve been to Berlin many times. They have crazy nightlife for sure, but there’s a maturity and mutual respect amongst the club goers there (for the most part). They are devoted music and art fans and responsible adults. The LA/Hollywood scene is just depraved. Dudes like Dan Blizerian are just the tip of the iceberg there.
One of the smartest things about this scene is that this is the one and only time we see this guy. He doesn't become a supporting character or a sidekick; he doesn't get turned into a vampire and get offed by Blade later - he just vanishes after this scene, but that makes him all the more effective to the story. Because he has no idea what the fuck is going on, neither do we, and that introduces the horror of this world in a way that no amount of later explanations could do. He has no importance; he's just one more victim, one more face in the crowd; clearly this happens all the time - and the only hope for people like him is Blade.

Also, what about the fucking bodies sliding through the back? It honestly sets the stakes super high right at the start. Some really fucked up shit is happening right under everyone's noses.
@@Grayto Oh wow, I never even noticed that! Yeah, it really is set up very well, and all through visuals and atmosphere. The word 'vampire' is never even spoken for the first, I'm going to say, ten minutes of the movie - certainly this poor schmuck never hears it - but right up until the big reveal with the blood and the fangs, it's obvious something is off. These people all know something that he doesn't, and it's something bad - hell, Deacon Frost, the film's big bad guy, just shows up randomly in the middle of the crowd, gives him a dirty look and walks off! It's his first appearance, and he's not even focused on! It all communicates one thing: this guy is nothing. Everyone has bigger fish to fry than him. He's nothing and nobody, just another random piece of meat, and the vampires see EVERYONE else like this. If there's a better way to set up a vast, impersonal, society-controlling group, then I haven't seen it.
It's brilliantly effective. Audience is drawn in by following some store brand Bill Paxton horny dumbass who just wants to get laid. Who gets terrorized by monsters revelling in blood. Then the hero is introduced and the monsters we've just seen are terrified of this new monster. Even Batman never got a scene like this.
Imagine how scared shitless you'd be as soon as you get drenched in blood, and then realize you're packed in a room full of bloodthirsty monsters who want to kill and eat you. That's the stuff of nightmares.

There are many reasons to love Blade: -It makes vampires into actual monsters and predators to be feared. They're not tortured anti-villains who want love or can be redeemed by love or whatever. They gleefully hunt down and prey on humans. Even Blade did it in his early years. He's disgusted with himself but he still did it and made no excuses for it. These are monsters who really need to be put down. -Karen isn't a love interest which allows her character to actually have a use in stopping the main plot. She actually contributes to overall mythology by creating the serum Blade continues to use in the next few movies and she has a character arc all on her own. -This scene however just takes the cake. It tells you everything you need to know about the movie. The vampires are wicked, hedonistic beings. And Blade is a vampire hunter who LOVES his job.
It also shows the villians in their specific roles too. One getting head in the back, one partying in the crowd but bored, one drifting through like a shadow. It's such a perfect opening it should be used in classes

One of the greatest openings in movie history. I remember when I watched this at the cinema I was like OH SHIIT! This was before movies like the Matrix had come out. This movie was avant garde and ushered in the era of cool, well dressed ass kicking anti heros.
Yup Yup. Lotta movies (including The Matrix) pulled from this one. And their writing/Direction/Production teams, a Who's Who's of successful comic movies after.

This was when vampires were actually still cool. And then Twilight came and fucked it all up. Hopefully the MCU can make vampires cool again with the new version of Blade they're doing.
Fr! To this day, the first two Blade movies are by far my favorite comic book movies and still extremely underrated. They're busy with a new Blade movie, a different actor though, which is a shame as Snipes' Blade to me is as iconic as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man or Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, if not more so.
@@iliilliliiliilliliiliillil9137 Mahershala Ali being a god tier actor will knock out the park as a slightly younger Blade. The thing is, will they have him be R Rated/TV-MA like the Netflix shows or PG-13 like the actual MCU? Cause actors can deliver, but if the writing and directing is bad, an actor can't save the movie.
@@murk4552 The director is an untested director only known for making documentaries about islam. With some director-for-hire its going to have no creative voice whatsoever. Even if they shoot for an R rating which they should itll just be a marketing gimmick to make people think its actually blade. Mahershala Ali could do a good job with the right material but I doubt he'll get the chance.
@@HDZ274 this makes me hate how badly they misrepresent or screw over especially Black actors. Cause not everyone is Viola Davis or Denzel Washington. If you get a movie on your resume that does terrible, cause of the studios who mishandled it, it always gets blamed on the actors, cause they're the face for the films.
The great thing about this opening scene is that it raises so many questions, like, “Why does this vampire nightclub have a blood sprinkler system? Why is it built inside of a slaughterhouse? Why is that one guy the only human they invited there to feed on? Is that one guy’s blood really going to be sustainable for that entire crowd?” And the answer to all of these questions is, “Shut the fuck up, Blade is here.” Which should always be the answer to every question anyone can ask you, ever. This movie fucking rules.
1. Because vampires drink blood and get off on doing so 2. Because it makes it easy to drain large amounts of blood from bodies and avoid being seen by outsiders 3. She brought him last-minute as a party favour, like bringing a bottle of wine to an already well-stocked party. He wasn't meant to feed the whole crowd.
MATCHES MALONE Nope, there were others before this one. Blade was the first black Marvel movie. Still the first black comic book movie to do it right tho
Meteor Man, Steel, Blade were African American-produced, they had creative control and took home the profits Blade is the first successful movie based on Marvel comics and set the stage for the next 20+ years
I was 8 years old and I remember I thought to myself wow I want to go there the music is fucking badass! Then at 17 I was invited to a bloodrave for Halloween you were to wear white and they were going to do the same exact bloodsprinklers
Dang I’m 29 and my dad had this taped onone of those VHS that you can buy just to record stuff on much like those CD’s you could buy in like 20 or 30 packs lol . I remember seeing this and thinking vampires were real lol just like this too just there at night waiting for you to walk by and snatch your ass up. The other part of the tape had “the waterboy” with Adam Sandler .
In the official wiki of Blade this type of clubs are called “Blood raves” which are abandoned places where vampires do disco parties and sometimes orgies. The typical ritual of these parties is the blood bath. The blood passes through a system of tubes leading to the fire system implant. The blood using in this blood baths is taken by human bodies deceased or sometimes is picked by some blood banks secretly managed by vampires as seen in the first scene of Blade 2.
What are you on about? It was a great scene with a lot of tension. You get to understand the characters, motivations and even intentions in the first 5 minutes as well as understanding on a fundamental level who the Joker was. Introduced a boss character with an awesome opening in a short amount of time.
When you found out, that this scene is actually the first scene of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. This movie, this scene started it all. There was better movies, there was more important movies. But Marvel connected every movie and this is the starting point. Iron man is a really important movie as well because, it started the MCU and without the success of the MCU there would be no MCM. But its just beautiful if you look trough all of the years movies and series, ups and downs, good and bad, everything.
Not gonna lie, that scene when they reveal that they are vampires was so scary. Especially when you realize hopelessness of that situation, when there is no way out, and you have no idea what is going on!

"Blade"(1998) is a good enough action Vampire movie with an amazing Trance music Soundtrack! The opening scene of the movie was inspiring and well made!
I watched this in the theaters expecting a standard wesly snipes movie. Like passenger 57 or art of war.. You know. Regular 90's action movie. Back then in the theatres in those days this opening scene SCARED THE $#!+ outta me!!! No joke legit. I looked around to find the exit. Im dead serious that opening scene had my heart racing. Bruh the sound design in this scene is beyond spectacular. When he enters the rave there’s hardly any background chatter or talking, but the deeper he selves into the crowd the louder the screams and background noise, constantly building and getting louder until the climax at the blood bath.
Possibly one of the most impactful and memorable opening scenes of all time. Also I like when the DJ stands in front of BLOODBATH as he shows up, it covers the OO's and basically reads as BLADE. Really feels like a comic book moment.
