Problem is they’re trying to tie it into MCU continuity. Trying to introduce midnight sons, and introduce blades daughter from the comics. All we want is a simple blade vs vampires movie. You can do a post credit scene setting up the MCU connection

People forget that Feige said they had no immediate plans for Blade but the actor called him aggressively for the roll and they couldn't tell him no. The implications that Blade has on the MCU is huge so it should be expected that it would require alot to fit him into the Universe at a creative level so I see the so-called delays as normal and expected.

@@johncampeathat is not true John. It’s widely known that Mahershella has been heavily involved in the development of this project. That’s part of the reason why it’s taken so long to get off the ground. He’s hasn’t been satisfied with the direction, script, etc. And how can you blame him. I know you don’t trust many industry insiders but Jeff Sneider for example recently commented on the recent director departure and said that Yan and Mahershella clashed… which is probably why he’s not directing the project anymore. We all know that when a report says “parted ways” it most likely means the person was fired and that’s what probably happened to Yan and you’d be naive to believe that Mahershella wouldn’t have anything to do with that. You don’t bring on a two-time Oscar winning actor and expect them to have “no say”.

Nothing at Marvel had this degree of behind the scenes delays, but iirc. Thor The Dark World was originally supposed to be directed by Kenneth Branaugh then he pulled out, I remember seeing Patty Jenkins was a potential director and they ultimately went with Alan Taylor. Also don't forget that Edgar Wright was hired in 2006 to write and direct Ant-Man, and he didn't leave the project until 2014. Doctor Strange 2 was originally going to keep Scott Derrickson before he left the project and they brought in Sam Raimi.

I think they just need to cancel this. It's been a hot mess, and Ali deserves better. Honestly, if they desperately want Blade to be in the MCU, give him a Disney+ show! Hell, take that Wonder Man show that nobody asked for, and replace it with a Blade show. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is younger than Ali and could potentially commit more time to being Blade in the long run.

@@jacksvendsgaard2270 my suggestion is simple. Don’t start filming till you have a great script and director attached. However long it takes. Even if that eventually means Mahershala ages out, and they find a new actor. The problem is marvel announced this project wayyyy to prematurely. Something people don’t understand about studios is that they’re constantly developing projects that will never see the light of day, but they don’t go out and tell the public about it. In a recent interview, one of the top executive producers of marvel Studios just said that their new strategy going forward is producing far more content then they’ll ever actually release. Which is good because that means the only projects that’ll eventually make it to the screen are ones that the studio feels is actually good enough to warrant that decision. but back in 2019 Bob Chak wanted marvel to produce and release as much content as humanly possible. And he reportedly wanted Marvel and Lucas film in 2019 to showcase as much upcoming projects as possible, no matter how far into development they were in. And blade was clearly no further than the conceptual stage of development and thats being generous. So my point here is that if Marvel never announced it back in 2019, because they clearly weren’t ready, then we would’ve never known about it other than industry insider scoops, and so eventually, whenever film comes out, there wouldn’t be all this baggage around it regarding how long it’s taken for it to be made.

This really is ridiculous, because for a franchise that’s had a perfectly smooth production with virtually all of their past movies this is the first time where an MCU project is having trouble getting made, considering how it was in the past this is an astronomical blemish on Marvel’s reputation, now instead of being able to say “Yeah some of the movies they put out may not be the greatest but at least they’ll get made just fine” we now have to be like “Oh shit, they might have a lot of trouble now” Which is totally unheard of for us fans, it really is an embarrassment on their part, I feel like they never should’ve brought out Mahershala Ali right away, they could’ve announced Blade sure but just that it was coming, not who was playing him, because now Marvel has put all of their eggs into 1 basket and if it doesn’t work out and Mahershala Ali exits or even worse the movie gets cancelled that’s gonna damage a huge amount of trust with the fans, and so I really do think it was a mistake announcing Mahershala Ali that early

Mahershella is the reason this movie is taking so long and I mean that in the best way possible. He’s a 2x Oscar winning actor, he knows what a great script looks like. He’s not going to settle for some lacklustre, half-baked script. He also understands the expectations of this film. He’s not going to want to do it if it isn’t at the very least on par if not better than the original blade films with Wesley Snipes. To be honest I don’t care how long they take. Marvel will keep it pushing with the rest of the multiverse saga until Mahershella and Feige feel they have not just a good script… but a great script and director they can confidently move forward with.

Which is good because it means the only projects that'll make it to screen are ones that the studio feel are deserving of it. But back in in 2019 Bob Chapek wanted Marvel and Lucas film to announce as many projects as possible no matter how far into development they were in. And Blade was clearly no further than the conceptual stage of development and that's being generous. So if Marvel had never announced it back then, we wouldn't have know of it other than through scoops and only the niche corners of the audience pay attention to stuff like that. Which means whenever the film came out, it wouldn't be carrying around all this baggage regarding how long it did or didn't take to release. A good example of this is the Nova project. We've been hearing about this project for YEARS. Since the infinity saga. BUT... Marvel's never officially announced it so we aren't all sitting around waiting for it because there's no official release date or actors, director and writers involved THAT WE KNOW OF.

It is interesting that Mahershala's lawyer spoke out about it, you don't often see this happen, even with all the craziness that has happened with Star Wars and such. I agree that this could be an attempt to get Mahershala out of the project, I'm not sure if he wants to leave or if he will end up leaving, but it does appear like his lawyer is trying to give him an out if he wants it. Back in 2019, the MCU was in a much different state compared to where it is now. With all the projects that flopped ever since, Mahershala Ali's high profile as an actor and people asking for Marvel Studios to slow down on new releases, it's no surprise they're taking their time with Blade. Still, any studios should stop announcing projects they're not planning to release anytime soon. That's just frustrating.

The MCU has completely lost the momentum it used to have... They were making less stuff in the first ten years but it felt like it was actually going somewhere. They have set up story threads and characters like Blade and Black Knight... If this was 2013, those movies would have been out by now and they would be prepping their next appearances!

@@user-xd7mk2xz2h True, but Deadpool is one character, all of the recent movies have not segued into anything, they introduced Namor, so by now we should either have had a standalone SUBMARINER movie or an INVADERS movie with Steve Rogers and Jim Hammond set somewhere in the middle of The First Avenger. We SHOULD have have both a Black Knight AND a Blade movie by now... If you introduce characters you NEED to use them or the general public will lose interest!!!

@@user-xd7mk2xz2h the only mcu projects to get any big hype have been fanservice films and the only that was succesful and wasnt(gotg3) was made by a guy who left the company and joined their biggest competitor. If fantastic four isnt a hit we are screwed until xmen come in.

Seems like a smart move with the trash Marvel has released lately. They're actually attempting to waste Blade and push his daughter as the true protagonist. It's another bait and switch. No one and I mean no one who's a fan of Blade wants to see him as a single father.
