Did you see the replay? A slight jab at his crest, right at the chest protector's thickest padding. It takes a light breeze to send Crosby tumbling onto the ice.
@jweich23 I understand where ur coming from and for the most part I agree with you, but there are some moments where its good to see your captain stand up for your team, even if it means sitting for 5 min.
Sid's reaction is what makes this funny.. Collapses in "pain" Gets up as soon as he hears theres no whistle coming Pushes him Then skates away immediately while talking Classic crosby lol
Crosby should have gotten the unsportsmanlike, Blake should have gotten the fine. No worse than Ovechkins hit from behind on Briere. Major loss of respect for Crosby for skating away from Blake instead of beating his ass and from the penguins as a whole for standing up for their star. If that was the star on any other team, Blake would have been bloody. Partly the NHL's fault for the instigator rules in the 3rd period. BRING BACK OLD TIME HOCKEY!!
i saw a video with Ilya Kovalchuk and Crosby called "Kovalchuk Pointed at Crosby" or something, and the announcers (ATL) were incredibly biased! i don't see much bias by our announcers, Bob Errey and Paul Steigerwald.
If it was any other player no fine would have been issued. I'm sick of Sidney Crosby being protected by the NHL and the officials. Someday soon Crosby will get his ass kicked and I'll be there to laugh. He needs it.
That's not a 'spear' the way it's written in the rule book. If you take a good look at it towards the end of the video, the way the blade of the stick is angled, and the direction Blake is moving his stick, the blade was actually going away from Crosby. It got stuck in Crosby's jersey, and because he takes so much shit in the NHL, he's been conditioned to take a dive. Dirty shot by Blake? Hell yes. Dive by Sid? Hell yes once again.
Of course they fined him to cater to Crosby. That either hit him in the side or grazed his abs. That doesn't usually cause someone to fall over clutching their stomach until they realize there's no penalty on the play. Horrible dive. Matching unsportsmanlike though.
then why was he nowhere near the scoring lead, he was down by like 20 goals, and dont even say it was because he was gone, he was gone for like 5 games, he could have scored 8 goals max
This is a good example how referees do their job this year.... shitty.... Crosby : Unsportsmanlike conduct (ok, he deserves it) Blake : Nothing (suspendable offense...) I'm not a Crosby fan, but this call was stupid.... Can't wait to see what's gonna happen next game...
Jesus christ for a player with all the skill in the world Crosby is such a diver. Like honestly come on. He it the crest and the quote " spear " came from the side, not head on. I don't even think it made contact with his mid-section. Crosby has mad , if he just score/set's up goals and stops being a drama queen, nobody will have anything issues with you
@damienmetalwind But it wasn't a hit Crosby took Damien, it was a spear! If you play hockey, which I have all my life, you'll know that there is very little padding or protection for the stomach area. Getting speared there really does hurt. And "Countwolfula" is totally correct. Jason Blake was not popular with a lot of Leafs fans here in Toronto. He was talented, but seen as a bit of a bad tempered, surly sort. We Leafs fans were very happy to unload his oversized contract! ...Just sayin!!
GO BLAKE- ok crosby is amazing player, but the team treats him like a fragile old lady, "oh no you hit crosby, ur gona get it now" id apreciate crosby more if he grew some balls
i respect crosby for his talent on the ice- but my respect is lost for when- on the pittsburg- whoever hits crosby- of checks him hard- thats not acceptable- they always flip out- "you cant hit him" like hes a fragile piece of glass. id like somone one time to just beat the crap outa him
0-0 Blake didn't even touch Crosby's body it was his under armor xD you can tell by how the jersey pops out during the so called "spear" but Crosby took a dive no offence but he took the dive and thats why he got a penalty
You can tell it's a Penguins home game....what game was the announcer watching, Blake is one of my least favorite players, but a suspendable offence?? Syd then uttered a death threat...and the announcer may as well have stood up and cheered....sad
It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the spear being intentional or not, the puck wasn't anywhere fucking near Crosby. Why's he poking at his gloves in the first place
Ive been speared like that.. You dont fall down by that unless blake got the strength of 10 men in his arms.. it was a cheapshot but crosby dove right down in fetus position and started crying like a baby
Too bad everything stated about stomach protection and Crosy are "DEAD WRONG". Players stomachs are minimally protected. Shoulder pads have chest plates that meet with the pants that rise alot higher than most people realize for that very reason. You can't stop pucks but you can take a little poke here and there. Crosby naturally acted as if he had been shot. He then took a dive, cried and moaned. All his usual pathetic embarrassing behavior. He is highly skilled until someone touches him.
Let's see, Crosby gets a light spear to the gut, pushes Jason Blake and then skates away (with the refs there), comes out of the box after the game, and waits to make sure he can get away, then starts threatening him. PANSY!
@fieldmarshal46 lol... if by "drops the gloves" you mean "throws a hissy fit and has his bigger, tougher teammates step up for him (even against a guy like Blake who is among the smallest in the league)", you'd be right. Jason Blake had cancer and played all 82 games that season. Crosby cries when he runs out of Corn Flakes in the morning.
@fieldmarshal46 Oh snap you're right... I almost forgot scoring points makes Crosby automatically not a wuss. And how could I forget that cups and medals mean an individual player carried a whole team and the rest of the people in the lineup were just there to fill the roster so that one, individual person could look good. My bad. Carry on.
@rowdyscot89 first of all, Crosby is tougher than you will ever be so i wouldn't say that he cries. He's a captain, he's supposed to complain to the refs. If you were good you would understand. And i just now looked at this video. Who the fuck cares when comments were made.
@MusicPerson456 Well, I'm glad you can spell lutefisk, but I hate lutefisk. No I said: "At least I know english good enough to communicate with people who have english as their mother tounge." And that last thing about spelling a language? Where did that come from? Haha! Btw, there is no snow in South Norway in the summer, so I'm good. Jeg er glad verden har smarte mennesker som deg, som er flinke i engelsk rettskrivning. Hvordan skulle ellers verdens klart seg?
Obviously you don't know much about hockey. Crosby and Ovechkin are both amazing players, but are a different types. Crosby is a playmaker, while OV is a scorer, obviously he is going to have less goals. Points is the only number in the end that really matters. Which btw Crosby was ahead when he got injured and likely would have broken last years record of 120.
I've watched the video about 50 times. Blake's stick doesn't touch anything but Sid's jersey. Maybe you need to take a basic science course, or need a new eyeglass prescription, because it's basically impossible to spear someone from behind and that certainly did not happen to Crosby in this case. A curved stick doesn't make a difference either. Watch the video again.
have you heard pittsburghs tv announcers ? theyre just as loud when another team scores. making fun of the other team is not being biased. they'll name an opposing player "player of the game". i agree though, that 90 percent isnt like pittsburgh.
intent to injure my ass ! Jason mostly got his sweater, Crosby has to learn how to be a man in hockey, he is not a little boy playing hockey at a youth center or something. he yaps too much.
@fieldmarshal46 I really don't know anything about Blake's fight history. Nor did I say, at any point in my comments, that I was backing or supporting him. If you would like to reread my posts you might notice that I was commenting on the cowardice of Crosby... Like how he never removes his visor when someone tries to fight him. Either way the thing we need to look at is why are you basing your "support" on who has the best hair? If that were the case you'd be a fan of a 1970s Joe Namath.
@snakework I respectfully disagree. Getting speared in the stomach really hurts. Are you a Hockey player? If so, you know how painful & dangerous spearing is. Check out my HockeyHubbub channel. I've found these newer Carbon sticks to hurt even more than the wooden sticks do! My Easton Synergy will actually cut through a wooden stick like it was butter! AND that's by ACCIDENT! I don't try to break other players sticks! Blake MAY not have meant to spear, but it's a penalty anyway.
well i highly doubt that. the only kids who call themselves an enforcer are the ones playing NHL10. or are you saying you get 5 minutes of ice time a game and try to lay hits.
Are you kidding? Crosby drop like a sack of potatoes and got back up as quick as he fell. Yeah you can say it's a spear I won't argue that but it wasn't even vicious enough to fall down for it like you just got your intestines torn apart. So I have to say that this may have put a definite label on Crosby as an embellisher that's for sure.
@mrredwings88 I'll cut you a break because you're a Red Wings fan, and my fave player was Stevie Yzerman! But honestly dude, You are DEAD WRONG ON THIS ONE. Goalies wear chest protectors. Player's ONLY wear shoulder pads. There's NO protection on the stomach, where Blake speared Crosby. Crosby is not a wuss. Actually, he's quite strong. He could beat the crap out of Blake, that's for damn sure! P.S: I live in Toronto, and trust me, Leaf fans couldn't stand Blake, and are real glad he's gone
Yep. And he is the only guy in the NHL that does it. Have you ever watched other captains or alternates? Have you ever watched Mike Richards? He cries to the refs all the time. Part of it has to do with him being a captain. That's his job. Still, Richards gets the same whiny look on his face. It might even be worse. The Crosby haters are exactly like the people that over-hype Crosby. You make slightly different sounds when you squawk, but they still don't mean too much.
@boyrandom72 So basically what you are saying is that you are unable to step back from something that you care about and form an objective opinion. Big deal, the announcers pick players of the game from other teams, most announcers do. The announcers are loud when the other team scores, most announcers are. That isn't being unbiased, that is called announcing.
@fieldmarshal46 You do realize Crosby didn't drop the gloves right? He never does... He pushed the guy a little the skated back to the safety of the referees just as one of his teammates came over to fight his battle for him. Like always. What a wuss.
you see how fast crosby skated away after he pushed blake...man...i understand thats a spear...but sooner or later..hes gotta stand up for himself and noy have some1 else do it...every superstar gets into atleast one fight...except crosby because hes a fairy
Crosby sold that. Crosby's always whining. He got away with about 3 penalities last night. The NHL won't call him for shit because he's Sidney Crosby. But if anyone does anything to him, he'll bitch and that player will get suspended. I like Crosby's talent, but he needs to stop complaining.
no, basically you are trying to sound intelligent but you aren't. i just gave you reasons why they are not biased. it is a fact they aren't biased. yes, they do their jobs and announce the game and they do it without bias. you're simply forming your opinion on announcers you probably have never seen. are you from pittsburgh? do you get FSN? if so, then you can talk.
