Introducing the BLAMMO! Electronics Voltage Booster. This transistor based overdrive is based on the Power Boost and Overdriver circuits of the 70s, heard famously by the likes of Gilmour, Jeff Beck, T-Rex and many more. Two versions of this clean boost with 2-band EQ were offered back in the day, 9V and 18V which drastically changes the headroom, tone and fuzzy character of this pedal when cranked. With the Blammo Voltage Booster you get all the original tones of both versions, thanks to the same BC184L transistors and an internal charge pump that allows 9/18V from a standard 9V adaptor. Other upgrades include silent true bypass switching, a pedalboard friendly footprint and most importantly, a master volume which really helps you dial in those uncompressed overdrive tones without the use of diode clipping or op-amps. Like all Blammo Electronics, the Voltage Booster is meticulously crafted in Portland, OR with high attention to detail.

An amazing plot twist would be if Andy played bass with a pick.

Generally it’s fingerstyle but I’ve definitely played more picked bass than guitar 😄

Not only is this an awesome overdrive from the olden days of pedals, it's also one of the keys to getting David Gilmour tones. Gilmour around the time of Dark Side would use a Color Sound Power Boost, a silicon Fuzz Face and stuff like choruses and tape delays into an amp that's dialed in very flat and right before it starts breaking up. Then he'd use the boosts, fuzzes and his other effects to colour the sound to what he wanted. He'd eventually replace the Power Boost with a Tube Driver, but for most Floyd Stuff this is what he used.

I'd be interested in a comparison video between the Blammo Voltage Booster and the Tru-Fi Colordriver.
@sixbladeknife44
@sixbladeknife44 3 года назад
The Tru-Fi is really great for the $$, it stands up to much pricier ones. One of my favorites is the old ProAnalog Power Driver, really outstanding.

@@sixbladeknife44 This one is actually about 10 dollars cheaper than the 18v version of the colordriver

@Smurfman256
@Smurfman256 2 месяца назад
Well the Tru Fi Colordriver is built like a friggin tank, for one. It doesn't have the voltage switch; you get the choice between a 9v pedal or an 18v one. But the 18v version is the better of the two anyway.

With the originals one of the tells that you’re using a 9 volter comes when you strum an overdriven chord and then let it decay. Once the guitar signal drops below a certain level you’ll hear a static-like artifact. The first few times this happens you might even think the pedal is misbehaving or you’ve got a bad cable. But that’s just how the circuit works at 9v. At 18v the static-y artifact is gone.

@AndyDemos

Think of it like buying a tube screamer variant, you just have choices. One may not be better than the other, just different. The benefit of the Blammo is the 9/18 voltage selection vs choosing one or the other with TruFi. Both sound amazing and accurate to an original.

I remember getting the notification for this awhile back, but I’m just now watching it. Blammo! makes amazing effects! I wish I could buy all their pedals. I still use my Tomb Sender a lot. It does a lot more than some of my higher priced fuzzes. Amazing as always, Andy. I got to put this on my wish list. P.S. Were you playing this into a clean or dirty channel?

Good sounding pedal. But do you think the guy in the last row at the concert says "Wow, it's running at 18 volts!"?
@AndyDemos
@AndyDemos 3 года назад
You can say that for most gear! The playing experience between 9/18 is different and that has an effect on performance.
@JohnShalamskas
@JohnShalamskas 3 года назад
@@AndyDemos I run a King of Tone at 18V because I like the extra headroom. I use other pedals if I want more compression.
@tasteapiana
@tasteapiana 3 года назад
Honestly, it sounds less like the 18v gives more headroom than it does the 9v has a compression circuit in the path which makes the 18v sound more expansive by comparison. The only thing '70s' sounding to me about it is it has that Champ through an AM transistor radio vibe, like, Lindsey Buckingham at 3am trying to nail that outro to Go your own way after sniffing the last of an 8 ball. Nothing flattering about it unless, of course, you just got kicked out of a Nirvana cover band for not being grunge enough.
