Bleach is...interesting, but anime RU-vid could use some extra perspectives that aren't "Bleach goes downhill after Soul Society," so here's my perspective on vengeance in Bleach, a character analysis of Kaname Tosen, Sajin Komamura and Gin Ichimaru. Also, Gin is best boy.

I’m sure there are a bunch of extra details that I missed or avoided for the sake of brevity, so if you’re interested in reading more into Bleach, you can probably find stuff out there without much trouble. I only really looked into Tosen specifically since I was having writer’s block at first, and a quick “Kaname Tosen analysis” google search turned up the references I’ve linked here. I’d be shocked if there wasn’t anything out there for Gin and Komamura as well. As far as I’m aware, anitube doesn’t have much in the way of “positive” Bleach analysis, so...hopefully that changes. It's fine. Tite Kubo was amazing when it came to his thematic narrative and and stylistic designs. However during the last 3 arcs he was exhausted. Both from his weekly chapter and episode releases done year around for over a decade and him becoming tired of his own creation. He was picked up and made to do a single series from the beginning. Bleach was his first series and thus he didn't have the experience within the industry before being propelled to the top. After the Arrancar Arc his artwork began to grow dull. The backgrounds faded out of existence, the detailed characters began to lose some details, panels would ofen be left blank with only text. It was sad how broken the guy was becoming due to his superiors being so indifferent to the very people they rely on, rather then in favor of getting money.

I_Am_Dragoon Bleach wasn’t his first series number 1. It was Zombiepowder. 2. He didn’t get tired of his own creation. He loved writing Bleach. But he was in pain due to the weekly chapters for multiple years. It’s sad to see Kubo’s story axed a hundred chapters too early, because Bleach did and still does make Shonen Jump a lot of money.

ofc,i reread and watched bleach anime atleast 3-4 times everyime i rewatch/read i understand more and more bleach barely has any plot holes but still people say it has a lot only cuz every shit went over their head busy docusing on the fights and ignoring the story,thats one of the reasons why bleach doesnt get the respect it deserves a lot of shit went over people head

I wouldn't say "deep" it's moreso that people aren't looking at the great content that is actually there. It's one of the huge problems with how people look at shounen.

yeah I mean a lot of us only watched it when we were kids/growing up/just getting into anime, and so we don't really remember the subtext very well because we weren't looking for it back then. And folks don't really want to go through 366 episodes or 686 chapters of story with a fine comb. That might also be why One Piece is the most fondly enjoyed of the three. Of the three, One Piece didn't get as much exposure on American TV, at least not in the form we know it today. We grew up with the 4kids version, something we well know is bad and doesn't do the real thing justice. So a lot of us didn't go back and enjoy the proper One Piece story until we were older and better at picking up on the subtext of the stories we watch. Or y'know, I'm totally talking out my ass. Plenty of people are going back and watching Naruto for the first time and still can't get into it. Bleach too. I think the poor pacing is a big aspect of that though. The manga, at least for Bleach, typically handles that better.

Bleach is a series with a complicated run. It honestly isn't cohesive, and the way things run is kinda off putting. Arcs move from one place to another and have little in the way of actual connection, making them less like a full story and more like individual stories. Characters can be difficult to grasp at times as well, with motivations and themes being present and building into the current story, but badly presented, making it difficult to see them. All that said, artistically it is one of the most brilliant looking manga in all of shonen jump, and thematically it builds very poetic stories that often touch on concepts either never touched upon in other shonens, or takes them in a new direction that makes an individual characters story unique from their contemporaries in other manga. Never is it referenced that Shintoism has a concept of maintaining four souls in one body and finding peace with them as the over arching theme of the story and ichigo's character growth, but it is something a lot of people have thought about and made connections to, because the four races (Human, Shinigami, hallow, and quincy) have striking parallels to the four mitama of Shintoism, and the stories focusing around these specific races take reference from the mitama core values. Shinigami (Saki mitama) focuses on the power gained by Ichigo and the way he chooses to use it, at first choosing only to do as he pleased, but was forced to take responsibility for the power he now holds, and would eventually use this new found responsibility to influence the place his newfound power came from. (After learning to be responsible for his actions with his powers in Karakura town, he uses his fresh perspective to change over a millenia of tradition in soul society, by providing them a respectable perspective they never acknowledged.) Arrancar (Ara mitama) is centered around instinctual desire for challenge and passion. Challenge is something everyone desires, and overwhelming passion for something is held by every hallow. A desire to be remembered, a desire to fight, to be with others, to understand ones self, in other words, all hallow desire to feel whole once again, through their ever deepening desires and passions, even going back as far as the vengeful ghosts they spawn from, being locked into the world by their past regrets. These are all easy feelings to reject because they are so visceral, but they still have a purpose, and that is the entire point of Ichigo learning to utilize and ultimately accept his hallow side. (Best represented by his inner battle with his hallow while training under the vizords, and through his more intimate interactions with the arrancar under Aizen's orders.) During fake karakura town Ichigo shows his growth through his interactions with the captains, Gin, and his father (showing more faith in the captains, more understanding with his father, even during a situation as difficult as Aizen's attack, and seeing a bit of genuine sincerity in Gin) This all comes to a head when he becomes Getsuga. Accepting Zangetsu and trying to understand him, showing just how willing he is to grow, but it is too soon. Ichigo still has a lot of room left to grow. (He still doesn't fully accpet the true nature of Zangetsu, nor does he know it as well as he thinks he does and while understanding of both zangetsu and white, he still hasn't acknowledged them as part of him. Emblematic of how ichigo still considers Zangetsu a master and his blade a sword, rather than a genuine extension of himself. As a result, Ichigo loses that power, and moves on to his next challenge, living life without the ability to indulge his instincts and fulfil his sense of responsibility.) The nagi mitama represents the normal, the way things are meant to be, and if the focus of Ichigo's human side. When Ichigo regains his power, he accepts them as a part of his normal life. His long stretch of time spent feeling empty and without purpose gave a whole new meaning to his powers and appreciation with what they gave him. The ability to be passionate, to feel fulfilled in actions he would consider important, the connection it gave him to his friends both supernatural and real. His powers we ready to be accepted, but they still weren't fully understood. Kusi mitama is the essence of wonder and wisdom, both of which ichigo obtains from the past. Squad zero pass on their own wisdom to Ichigo as he travels from one domain to another and is rewarded through power. Like-wise, through understanding the circumstances of his mothers life and the feelings of Zangetsu does he obtain the power of his true Zanpakto. Through his experiences over the course of the story, Ichigo is able to look past Zangetsu's self restraining actions and see the genuine love Zangetsu had for him, love like a mother. Through the wisdom of his encounter, he forges his true zanpakto and obtains a wonderous power, the combination of all his laten abilities. The combination of his quincy, human, Shinigami, and hallow powers is reflective of his personality at this point. No longer does Ichigo act like a selfishly or bitterly, but he seems significantly more content. He walks with confidence and maintains a gentle smile on his face after his training, and shows more open concern for others. Not a single word I have said is something that I know of being confirmed, for all I know I am talking out my butt and being heavily influenced by other bleach fans ideas, and simply maintaining them because of my bias, but if that is the case, then maybe there is value to the way bleach is written. As a conventional story it has sever issues that could hold it back for many people from being a good reading experience, but for me, I feel my imagination flow with every panel and every poem gets me more invested in the character and story it refers to. These small details build into something I find fascinating and genui9nly enthralling to think about and feel a creative rush every time I think about them. I hope that this sheds a little light onto how I view bleach, sorry for the long drawn out lines of text. If anyone has actually read to this point then I thank you for hearing my bullshit out. Two years later lmao, but still. I have no idea how people consider bleach worse than Naruto. That series is a total tonal and lore mess, no character makes any amount of sense and the story is just a repetition of the exact same two characters fucking everything up along history. The messaging at the start of the series is the exact opposite at the end, Naruto didn't work hard, he's the reincarnation of a space Jesus, has the most powerful of the beasts inside of him (even while Kurama is HALVED), his mother gave him eugenic powers and he had acces to the best and most talented trainers in all of the ninja world. He's literally the most advantaged and talented human being in the world and you're supposed to think he's the underdog. Not to mention that he functionally has the capacity to train whatever he wants instantly thanks to his op and functionally infinite cloning jutsu, making every threat in the series a non issue if Naruto used even a fragment of his brain and just tried to become actually omnipotent. Not to mention the glaring issue that no action in the ninja world has real consequences, basically every single genocidal maniac, serial killer and terrorist gets to walk free because "they feel bad" after Naruto uses his magic speech or whatever. I haven't read one piece nor will I because I don't want to read the equivalent of 10 other series just to see if I care about it, most people say it's good so that's cool. At least Kubo was more realistic in his approach to writing and made everything in a smaller scale and made his main cast relatively simple and used them accordingly to a point that logically follows the starting point of the series. Rant over, don't know why this came over me, it's just that Naruto is so insanely bad lmao.

@@wumbojet Naruto isn't that bad. The reason it's better than Bleach is because it's straightforward and logical. Narutos talk no Jutsu up to pein arc was logical and convincing for pein. There is no hypocrisy or reversal of theme in Naruto.

@@TheShree909 intentional hypocrisy is what makes characters like tosen good, but even naruto characters have hypocritical character arcs. Obito wanted to protect everyone and save everyone from falling into his situation, but his loneliness and the time he spent trying to achieve his goal just made him go pretty much insane. Sasukes goal is to kill his brother for killing his clan with 'no reason' but he ends up killing his brother out of rage even after understanding why, he didnt even think about how his brother left him alive too. That hypocrisy of him killing for no reason despite saying his brother killed for no reason is what made him grow. To say bleach is worse for having the same writing and arguably much better is stupid lol. And naruto fights arent more logical than bleach fights so I'm not sure where you got that from

@@snasly1329 you haven't understood the point. My point was not about character's hypocrisy!. My point was about misunderstanding of Naruto contradicting itself which is not true. There is no contradiction in themes of Naruto. There are plotholes like Sasuke summoningmanda when he wasn't able to move, Danzo getting Shishuis eye which can't be possible!. The guy was saying that Naruto was a total mess which it wasn't. Narutos fights are more logical in the sense it's not a A>B>C type fight and the characters are much more deeper!. I do like characters like grimmjow and Starkk but Naruto was more relatable. Even ichigo wasn't really relatable. He was just too naive(just like Luffy). The only difference is that he isn't goofy. People who say ichigo is more relatable because he diesnt have a grand goal like hokage forget that Narutos goal was to be accepted, respected and overcome his loneliness whereas Ichigo doesn't need it in the first place. I love bleach too but it was never as relatable as Naruto characters. Bleach's war arc was bad. For some reason, it never hit me anywhere. It's like Kubo was just trying to write off something temporarily (just like kaguya).

Yeah. It was the first series in which I migrated to the manga from the anime. Thanks to Bleach I found Tons of manga that don't have anime adaptations and ones that are superior to their anime. And then from there I found Light Novels and Web Novels through "Kumo Desu ga Nani Ka?"

Personally enjoy bleach more than naruto since it keeps more characters relevant in terms of fighting streangth. While some characters fall behind the majority of the cast can at least attempt something where naruto will have his two mains get stronger than everyone then proceed to give them like 3 more power ups on top of that. Far from a perfect show but i think its better than naruto and dragon ball. Still think one piece is the best though

@Dammn Deejay I'd ask how that line has become so universal, but that's because it spoke an obvious truth. In Tosen's case, his bleak world view had consumed him, and he became a villain. It's a tad similar to Harvey Dent in Dark Knight who's pursuit for "justice" had consumed him and warped his perception of the reality he was in.

I always felt like bleach gets alot of unnecessary shit mostly because it's the most realistic out of the big 3.....Ichigo didn't have a goal at first, unlike Naruto and Luffy. He's just teenager trying to live and survive in a world he was thrown into.. ....and in the end he did develop a Goal......to protect, because it is within his power... But I can agree that beach is not perfect and honestly the constant filler arcs kind of draws away from the main story at times....but bleach is my fav out of the big 3 even though I really love Naruto and one piece....

She was going to be, but Kubo's editors wanted him to move on to the next story arc quicker. I'm not sure when this decision was made, but it's interesting to note that a form of Shinji Hirako was going to be a classmate of Ichigo's as well. I actually remember going back to the early chapters and seeing the classmate characters and thinking, "wait they existed??" I honestly forgot that Orihime had more female friends than just Tatsuki and Chizaru. They went from minor/background characters to nonexistent.

I know it's the huge lesbian bias but I always loved her so much she was always so driven and kind and rough too which is SO like Ichigo aka very shonen protagonist but I loved her relationship with both orihime and Ichigo I'm still surprised she never ended up being part of the main cast at least, she would have made for a very compelling mc honestly, I know it's the tween with an anime crush in me speaking but I would have maybe been even more hooked hehe

Bleach at it's high points were some of the highest in Shounen but it also had it's lowest low points.. least it didn't like... go bonkers with some crazy future time travel story with pokemon that came out of boxes.

Though I don't really understand all the hate for Bleach, and therefore don't share your negative view of the manga, I appreciate that you did the video talking about something well done about it in spite of what you feel. I also thank the video because it's about Tosen Kaname, my favourite character in Soul Society arc. He didn't get enough show them from Kubo but at least he had a meaningful character arc, as you explained.

Yessssss, Bleach has tons of great world-building and character stuff but it's all buried under below-average execution and battle scenes that are usually just filler (especially during the Arrancars Saga, where Kubo's employers and editors forced him to make the arc longer than it otherwise would have been to appease fans with popular characters and more battles). Bleach has TONS of potential and good ideas. I just wish more people would look past the surface-level mediocrity to see the brilliance underneath. What could have been, had Kubo been a more experienced writer when he began the story.

Finished Bleach, so about your hot takes: -Soul Society is good; nowhere close to the best arc in Bleach, let alone the GOAT shonen arc. -Fullbring is underrated, but it feels like an anomaly in Bleach, where one-off, self-contained arcs just don't happen. Almost felt like it was a Bleach movie or something. -Ulquiorra is the BEST character. Do people seriously not like him? -Matsumoto > Hitsugaya. -Swap Tatsuki out for Shinji and I'm with ya. -Yes, the non-Kon humor in Bleach was solid.

Am I the only one who enjoyed Bleach more than Naruto? I think that One Piece is objectively the best out of the three but consider Naruto the worst just because I lost all interest in it by the time I was 1/4 of the way through. It was way too long and drawn out in my opinion and was somehow still so vague and had so much unrealized potential.

Literally all of those hot takes aren't even hot, they're commonly accepted by most people with decent reading comprehension. Soul Society is a fun murder mystery/heist, but once the twist drops nothing that happened during it all matters. Fullbring is a powerful dive into the protagonist's mentality at his absolute lowest, and a great jojo tribute to boot. Tatsuki was meant to become a main character, but his editors either hated her or had no patience for trying to buff her. Hitsugaya serves almost no purpose aside from fangirl bait; He never wins a real fight until fullbring, and literally should be dead halfway through multiple battles, but he can't die because he's too popular. Ulquiorra is an excellent foil to the entire cast's beliefs and values, and presents a challenge that isn't defeated by the absolute thrashing he receives, but by the shattering of his worldview at the very end, and his acceptance of it. Bleach is really good. It's got rough patches, but even those have something that can be taken away and learned from. Kubo's passion could very clearly be felt throughout, even when he didn't like certain arcs or was being asked by his editors to end or extend storylines. His love for the medium never faded, and it can be seen and felt in every page. This series and this author deserved better than they got, man.

Hitsugaya is that type of character that seems bland but also gives you hints that will develop into a much better character. And so for that you get invested in the character because of your future anticipation of him. However that doesn't really happen in Bleach so many people just write him off as boring in the end.

It sucks that Bleach doesn't get more love than it does. It's my second favorite anime right behind naruto and tbh, if the story had a little more thought put into it, it would've been my favorite. Too many people put too much stock into storytelling and not all the other stuff that Bleach was wonderful at. The art, the characters, the villains and their motives, the fighting, the creative and unique abilities that he gave characters that were refreshing and had not yet been you used, etc.

@@1234freshking That is because storytelling is important in a story. Also, I disagree with you on later things you mentioned as the art was the only thing you listed that Kubo did a wonderful job at. The characters were ok at best" their motivations were sometimes solid, and then sometimes to vague. The villains were generally not very good, often lacking proper motivations, sometimes being bland characters, and generally being very cookie cutter characters. The abilities in Bleach were generally very generic and basic, and Kubo did not do a good developing said abilities, or used them in interesting ways. I think series like One Piece, Naruto and HxH does a better job at that. The fights were for the most part pretty average to sometimes even below average. If you want to see some true creative abilities used in interesting ways, then those series i mentioned before do that better.

djmeagaaim17 I've seen the majority of shonen shows with the exception of jojo's bizarre adventure and I'm pretty knowledgeable on the ones that I have seen and the fights in Bleach has some of the best and more memorable fights in shonen. Definitely better than one piece and HxH in that regard especially one piece cause the fighting is definitely the weakest part of the show. And come on now, you just said that the abilities in Bleach are generic??? I can name you a bunch of people with unique and creative abilities that haven't been shown in any other anime or fiction for that matter. As far as the villains go, I didn't have any problems with the motives from the villains with exception to aizan who's your typical God complex character but the schemes that aizan's genius and the schemes that he came up with made up for it though

Remember a Zanpakuto is literally an incarnation of its user, desires or nature. Kyoraku for exemple likes to troll people but also has a hidden, cold pragmatic nature and would even kill a child (Wonderweiss). His shikai are deadly, weaponised children games. On the other end, his bankai is an adult play, about two lovers suicide and it has the power to kill many people in a given area, all the "watchers" of the play through several acts of torments.

Well, that very last chapter seemed like a steaming pile of shit produced to appease fans. I find it very easy to ignore it as non-canon. It would have been infinitely better to leave at the previous. Which potentially gave left a nice potential for continuation in the future.

Thanks for this. As a fan of Bleach, it was nice to see someone give it some of the credit it's due, even if you're not a fan yourself. Bleach definitely has a lot of problems, but I feel people are way too dismissive of it as a whole. There are things it does well. Also, I agree with most of your "hot takes".

The manga story may not be the best, but Tite Kubo artwork for bleach has always surpassed (in my opinion) the other two. Its cool shit. However the story after the soul society arc is kind of meh. Edit: Expect the Aizen arc, that was good.

tbh i like Bleach more than One Piece and Naruto just because the mc is not as Cliche and the villain quality feel more consistent (One Piece, Pokemon and Naruto is my three first anime/manga but i still never like them as much as Bleach because i like anime that is more relateable, more realistic and the how to power up always consistent)

Getting the Bleach stuff out before finishing One Piece I see. Great video, especially from the analysis and editing, although the narration lacks a bit of pathos in comparison to some of the videos about stories you are more invested in Personally my fondness and appreciation of Bleach are much higher when thinking about the themes and characters, rather than actually reading it. Also Satisfie D. Customer is a great character.

Dev Wheeler I don't see why the anime would be better. Kubo's stellar artwork doesn't seem to carry over that well, the pacing is slower. The soundtrack is great, but the footage I used for this video certainly wasn't all that visually appealing to me. I'm curious, why did you think the anime was better?

Mathwiz if you’re comparing it to the other big 3, it has better animation than naruto and way better than one piece (which looks like dogshit sometimes because toei). It’s really good for a long running anime. The art is also more detailed than in naruto or one piece. I’m not sure what you mean by slow pacing tho. The anime has 200 episodes of canon and the manga is roughly 700 chapters. If you’re worrying about slow pacing you’d be much more bothered by one piece because since post time skip it hasn’t been the best in moving things quickly(not that it ever really did) but it gets so bad some arcs in the one piece anime are unwatchable(looking at you dressrosa, and some zou)They pad the hell out of those episodes in dressrosa and for a show like one piece that takes 40+episodes to finish a fight cuz they can’t keep focus on one for more than 3 episodes/chapters it gets pretty unbearable in anime form. Bleach has none of these issues

Mathwiz also I don’t know what you mean about kubos art style not being translated well. That’s to be expected that it’s not exactly the same as most anime look distinctly different from their manga counterparts but the art style has always been really detailed in the anime and looks just like naruto with more attention to shading and depth. And Yeah soundtrack blows the other two out of the water, nuff said. And another point is that bleach actually has good filler. The only problem is where some of them were placed. Smack dab in the middle of the arrancar saga made the ulquiorra fight take forever

yeah every series has its flaws. ...but you know what was fuckin sick? when Ichigo went final Getsuga Tenshō and defeated Aizen ...you know what was fuckin lame? when Black Zetsu killed Madara from behind even when Bleach makes absolutely no fuckin sense it’s still cool. the same can’t be said for other series.

Luffy had numerous allies from Impel Down and the Whitebeard Pirates; the fact that he survived is still miraculous, but not impossible. Ichigo's allies consisted of weak side characters and one captain level fighter, and they were going against an organization with numerous captain level fighters. It just feels like Ichigo got insanely lucky.

michael dorsey I think you're describing luffy. There were maybe a couple things that happened that made it lucky for ichigo to survive but in one piece, in many of the arcs, EVERYTHING has to go right for luffy to survive. In alabasta, he should've died against crocodile multiple times, he gets saved by robin the first time and then for the second time, crocodile threw him in a spot where the water that luffy spit up just HAPPENS to fall right back into his mouth 🤦🏾‍♂️. In impel down, luffy never should've made it out of there, any and everything went right for luffy just to survive. In skypiea, he just so happened to have the devil Fruit that's the perfect counter to a enemy who one-shotted his entire crew with an OP devil fruit. Don't get me started on how lucky him and his crew got in Whole Cake Island. As a huge fan of one piece, I can safely say that Luffy's luck is the greatest power in all of anime

Spoilers : tosen friend was killed by her husband tokinada tsunayashiro the head of one the 4 noble families, after tosen was being beaten down by him aizen greeted him and told him about the 4 noble families sins and how the system is broken in the soul society! , aizen never hated the soul king but he hated how the noble families were controlling the soul king behind the scenes while making him a sacrifice before 100 millions years ago. This also the same reason why tosen attempted betrayal against the soul scoiety after knowing its secrets! Many more secrets are explored in the can’t fear your own world light novel

Arrancar and Fullbringer have completely different ideas from Soul Society. In throwing the “rehash” argument you ignore what the arcs are saying and how they are saying it. This is such a good video. Honestly Bleach is really, really good sometimes, but it's inconsistent. Many of the arrancar saga fighrs and characters are seriously awesome and fairly well written, but between all the filler and a few bad characters and contrived decisions, it gets brought down a bunch. Truly unfortunate.

I have not followed the whole anitube thing for a bit, but did mathwiz come out as trans recently and i missed it? Maybe I'm just not that observant and they have for awhile? The trans flag kinda took me by surprise.

Gin is, indeed, best boy. He really deserved a better manga. Still, Komamura was always a favorite of mine too out of the captains, his Zanpakutou was simplistic yet easily one of the coolest in the story. Though there is a flaw in fearing others from seeing his true appearance, because anyone with a heartbeat would find his face hilariously adorable. But Komamura was a good boy, and was one of the few characters that kept me invested during the final manga saga of Bleach.

@@Pipehiguita Let's see: -Simple but memorable design and characteristics -Emanates mystery -Child prodigy -Didn't mope around about his backstory or childhood -Was incredibly powerful and never went all-out -Simple yet incredibly scary Zanpakutou -Had a sense of humor and kept the mood from getting too dull -Could be intimidating and playful at the same time -Incredibly consistent personality -Managed to trick the Soul Society and _Aizen,_ the most strategically gifted character in Bleach -Never even tried to kill Ichigo and has let him live on two occasions -Likeable enough to get his own series of end-card segment Can you explain to me why he's one of the worst characters, or are you too mad about a small jab at Bleach to coherently type it?

@@Thebes342 He has the stupidest and most pointless reasons for his actions out of all the characters, because at least Tousen's friend was killed by the Soul Reapers, while even saying Rangiku was badly hurt by the followers of Aizen is an exaggeration. Throwing his entire life away to follow a man for god knows how many years to kill him because he stole some reiatsu from a girl who was completely fine afterwards is by far one of the most retarded things a character has done in Bleach. Not to mention Ichimaru was so stupid that he decided to finally stab Aizen when he was already fuesed with the Hogyoku, even if Ichimaru didnt know that Aizen was inmortal after the fusion he still attacked him when he knew the man was far stronger than before the fusion and knowing the Hogyoku provided hollow powers he should've expected fast regeneration form Aizen's new abilities. Why didnt he just killed him in his sleep in Hueco Mundo or something? And bothering to do all of that because of such a stupid reason, is almost as bad as Broly form the original movies. Also the bankai which he presented at first was very well done since it enhanced everything about his shikai like a logical bankai would. But Kubo just had to ruin that by making it a "poison" bankai for a plot convenience to try to kill Aizen. Everything he explined to Ichigo about his bankai was good and made sense, the poison plot twist was dumb and makes no sense having in mind the kind of shikai he has.

@@Thebes342 That's bullshit, he didnt gave a damn about the world, he didnt care when soul reapers were killed, nor he cared when arracnar were killed and he himself sliced the Vizard girl in half. He only did that shit for a really really really really stupid revenge. That's why he tried to have Rengiku away from Aizen all the time by dealing with her. He was a sadistic killer form childhood, not only to fool Aizen since he didnt knew about AIzen's shikai form the beggining when he saw him for the first time. Also Aizen did knew that the Hougyoku would still heal him because in his own words "even being outside of hime, it still belonged to him" and Aizen knew about the hollow fast regenaration abilities that the Hogyoku provided, since what surpised him was the magnitude of Ichimaru's attack and that the bankai was a different ability than expected. Ichimaru was the one who didnt knew shit about the Hogyoku and still after seeing Aizen regenerating with himself against Ichigo, he still went with that dumb attack. If he was "soo good"then how is that he couldnt simply kill him in the soul society in the first place? Is not like fucking Tousen was aruond him all the time, back then Aizen wasntt fused and there was a point where his blade was already being used on other people so Aizen didnt have it with him. All of that about his Bankai are excuses, it was just a convenincy for his betrayal since his blade was based on speed, not poison and yes, Bankais can change wildly form she shikai form, but if its core theme ability is changed it just becomes dumb, like Urahara's and Soi Fong's Bankais which are a complete new ability which ruins the theme of their baldes. And the problem with Ichimaru's is not exactly that the theme of the bankai is different, but that it was retconed for the sake of a plot convenience, because; if it always was a poison materialized blade, then how comes none of that applied with his battle with Ichigo? His character was poorly done and underused to the point of being wasted with a retarded motivation, none of his traits make him deserve a "better manga" more than any other character in Bleach. Is just another piss poor double agent character way inferior to Itachi from Naruto, and way more stupid than Itachi aswell for having such petty retarded revenge reasons.

I was with you until you said Soul Society was overrated. Bleach is my least fav of the big 3 too, but that arc is one of my fav shonen ones. Although I think I just really love the Aizen reveal and I kind of forget the rest of the arc.

A disapointment os gin was a cool character that was uterly pointless to anything besides a cool back story and dialogue otherwise the show wouldnt even miss anything if he was omitted.

Now that CFYOW novel has come out already, this looks like over the top criticism of Tousen. Soul society wasn't a great or even good place afterall, it was fake and based on a facade which would eventually collapse due to its inner contradictions. But can't blame you, this information wasn't mentioned in manga.
