Let's talk about Bleak Faith Forsaken, the good, the bad and surrounding discourse. Despite the negativity, I believe there is a lot to like here and the ambition of the world created is something to behold.
Even since writing this review the Devs have been aggressively patching the game, and it is in a far better state than it was even a week a go. This includes new NPCs and lore items!

Man regardless of what this game entails, having such a "huge" game, with assets and animations like these made by 3 people is actually insane. The workload must have been gigantic.

nope. most were done in our living room, and I know this, since I'm one of the three devs. The few that looked good enough to compare to our own on Epic were, well, ripped by someone else from the Souls series...

They been updating it almost everyday since its been released so that is good sign. They been listening to people's feedback and is working hard to fix the issues this game has.

Pretty impressive with what 3 people can do! And for the longest time it was only 2 developers from what I've heard. I've been enjoying the game a ton so far. It really does make you want to explore more with not having heavy handed death penalties.

my issues on the game after finishing are as follows... 1. the removal...(while i know theyre trying to be unique on this one needs a lot of work to feel right) 2. the nioh like end game (I basically 1 - 3 hit everything specially whenever i land crits) 3. some audios (they need to improve lots of these...specially on some bosses and some large giants) the biggest draw for me (cause I actually finished it too and endured my way through the mechanics, bugs and combat) will always be the artstyle...its freakin amazing...

I think that is totall fair, I struggled with the lack of Iframes as well and as a result I do think anything aside from Heavy armour is pointless. But yeah the Art design carried it for me as well.

I have played this game 3 days since release, and LOVED the experience to see how the game has changed. I remember when you rode the elevators, walked through the channels uninterrupted by skips. Please give this game a chance.

I could not care less about how amazing the environments are, or how unique the ancillary systems are, if the core mechanics of combat are bad. If the most common description of moment to moment gameplay is "floaty" and "janky" (which are two way overused terms, but where there's smoke, there's fire), then I probably won't be able to appreciate any of the effort and dedication on display

I tried to like the game the first week or so, but couldnt get past the bugs and jank....buuuut, since the devs have been updating it, I decided to jump back in a few days ago, and I FUKING LOVE THIS GAME NOW. Still got alot of problems to work on and polish, but man, the world is amazing, and I actually really like the combat and stat/item building. Game is good and has potential to be great down the road if the devs stay on it.

I've now had youtube autoplay two very different Bleak Faith videos to me, one overly critical and this one, and now I want to play it myself. I wasn't even aware this was the "ripped souls animations" game until you mentioned it, and if anything the dev's response to the accusation makes me feel better about it. The dev's general sort of responsiveness and feedback to bugs, meta concerns like that and the AI art bit, gives me a lot of hope for the game, and even between the two videos I've seen, published less than a month apart, the gameplay looks much smoother. Definitely giving this a shot soon.

Also if I'm being entirely honest, that long-handled sword with the ring on it looks dope as hell and I want to use it. (while I'm being honest, the median of the two opinions i've seen about BlF reminds me of how I feel about code vein, and that too gives me hope)

Nice review. The most info I've heard yet about the game. My only hesitation is the jarring animations and audio. Especially those climbing backstabs on the giants. Wow

i bought the game on day 1 and loved it from the 1st sight. music reminds of Dune or Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. BFF has certain weaknesses however it is worth playing

In regards to the AI art, Uber (main artist) did explain that he only based the AI off of his own drawings and work, and he has done many many drawings for the game. So while I generally am very against AI art, there was absolutely no harm done by using it in this instance, and I personally found it added a lot of character to the game.

I feel bad brandishing the phrase "soulslike" again so please forgive me. But in so many of these games, the story sounds like the devs got a thesaurus, found the weirdest words they could and built the world around that. This game sounds like it has a more thought out world with names that make sense. I'm also pleasantly surprised to see SWIMMING. So often touching water means death, as such it is refreshing to see a character paddling away, exploring a mysterious underwater area. As an avid Subnautica player, that kind of thing is right down my deep-sea fissure.

Haven't play this yet maybe i try it soon. I have read and watch many things before and after release, i believe they have more passion and heart than any of those big AAA companies many streamers criticize this one and i remember they saying the same for Hellpoint and the game was great, i still remember version Kenshi 0.41 when i start playing years ago people saying bad things. I can understand that people has different taste and opinions but even with all those problems those games with 1 or 3 or 10 devs are superior in art direction and ideals from flops like Forspoken or Babylons Fall with million dollar budgets and 200 devs behind them.....

There is many indie games made by 1-3 devs that don't release broken, the probelm is that they sell this game 30€.

For me, it's helped that I took dash out of the mix so I'll only roll. Rolls get you pretty far away from an enemy pretty fast, just be careful in narrow ledges lol.

I hadn't heard of this game but the whole "they ripped off elden ring" thing rings a bell, I think maybe I saw some video/article titles mentioning it but I ignored it lol The world and gameplay seem interesting, I think I'll want to try it in the future. Give the devs ample time to patch and balance everything.

The “ripping off Elden Ring” wasn’t deliberate. They bought asset packs from the Epic store (something nearly every indie dev does) and those packs had stolen code inside of them. They basically accidentally bought pirated software from a legitimate source that should have done a better job at quality control. Fromsoftware is giving them time to patch the bad code out instead of suing immediately like a lot of studios would; so that’s another reason to love them

Quick question for you. What souls like does this game feel like more? I know you said it more like DS2 without Iframes, but soulslike have that "other" kind of feel. So I guess what I'm asking is does it feel like Mortal Shell/The surge or is it more of a Nioh?

I would say it’s closer to Mortal Shell - like that slower more purposeful movement but also reliant on stats like Ds2. I defo feel late game you need to have high numbers to get through it

Thank you, I thought Bleak Faith looked really cool when it was first announced so I was was pretty disappointed when I heard all the negative feedback after its release and just chalked it up as yet another mediocre Souls-like, but your video completely changed my mind! I'll definitely be sure to give it a try now, it looks to be right up my alley.

They released a big patch the 25th of April, that includes better controller inputs . I bought the game on the 26th of April, and played it with the controller, and I must say that ,after you get used to it, it's good

Can’t wait for this to be on Xbox1 and ps4. This is exactly my type of game. I’m really glad you went into detail, because watching a streamer play the first 15 minutes on day 1 almost had me writing this off. Not to mention some of the rumors of “animation plagiarism” or whatever. Definitely going to check this out, hopefully in September 🤞

I tried the latest version. It's still very-very raw jank. WAY TOO JANK to actually play and enjoy it. I'd say they released 6-10 months too early. Also the actual fighting gameplay, the meat of the game, feels bad and unresposive. So the meat of the game is soy and is likely never going to get fixed - if they could make it good they'd have done it from the start, instead they released a game like it's playable. It is not. Verdict - another title for dumpster divers. "Adjacent to garbage is garbage"(c)

Really strong talented creators, but for me it tooo dark Yes, atmosphere of game is unique, you never saw like this before, but It to melancholic and hopeless. I talk about emotions, that you take from this amazing game. I always feel fear and pressure instead fun, without any peace of humour or just light moments- you just travel through abbandoned aggressive abyss alone, that’s a bit hard to enjoy, didn’t it ? Even ds3 or bloodborne have some funny moments and quest characters, that brings to the atmosphere of game a bit of Spontaneity and life Gyus, just make some humour or unserious, and game come deeper! Please

Flagued nemesis uses tons of animations from DS3 (Dancer curved sword weapon art) and Elden Ring (Flowing Curved Sword unique heavy attack). That's what seems weird about this game, most of the animations they use seems to be fromsoft animations.
