How to DIY furnace prime or bleed if you ran it dry, after fill up. My first DIY video, I hope it helps! If you would like to support me: Locally themed apparels are available! Buy Merch Here: BristolAuthentic.com
This was very helpful, thanks. There is another reason you might need to do this other than running out of oil. My oil filter does not have a bleed screw on it, so instead of bleeding it at the filter housing, I have to bleed it from the furnace after changing the filter. Today was my first time doing it, so I appreciate the clear and concise video.
I believe I found you to help me because I helped someone in need today. Karma. Glad there’s still good people in the world. You saved my mom and I. My dads passed and she definitely didn’t know what to do. I was scared to try but I did it! And it worked! And I have you to thank!
I just went through the exact same thing, my husband passed away unexpectedly in the beginning of this year, he always delt with the furnace, I have already been through 2 full weeks with no heat within the last 2 months and the first time wasn't because there was no oil , I couldn't get the furnace started by using the reset button, after multiple attempts over several days I gave up & was able to reach our furnace guy that usually services the furnace and he came over and got it started for me 🙏 ,Apparently this is what he did, because I happened to see the wrench just as I was on Utube watching an instructional video on how to bleed the furnace after running out of oil. I just got a full tank today and was literally dreading going to the basement to start it again and of course simply hitting the reset button did not work🙄🤦♀️ so I tried that twice then went to Utube for help. I think my husband must have been watching over me today because I found that wrench just as I watched the guy use his to open up the nozzle, I too was kind of leary about trying this myself but it worked immediately and I was so proud of myself!!😁 so Thank you for making these great helpful videos for those of us that need to watch them 😊 ❤️ they truly are lifesavers!!!
I wanted to say thanks for this. It really came through for me today. Couldn't get anyone out on a timely manner and fixed it through this video. Thanks for the post !!
Thank you! Its been almost a decade since I've done this, the 1st tutorial I hit made it seem much more than it is, and he missed steps & then referred to those unheard steps later :s I was getting panicked lol, fearing it much more complicated then my memory recalled. Short, clear & accurate. Again THANK YOU!!!
This is the best explanation I have found! I had to bleed it out a few times but then it kicked right on! Just to think I was going to get charged 177 for something I did in 5 min! 😂👏🙏 Thank you Jesus for leading me to your channel!
Thanks for sharing your video helped me today, changed the filter and the burner nozle but the furnace was not coming on, but bleeding it fixed the issue
Remember to look at the pump and see if there is 1 line or 2. If you're 2 lines and still have 2 bleed oil will be going into the nozzle so I always recommend taking off the nozzle line.
Hey! I'm new to oil furnaces so I'm still on a learning curve. I've filled the oil tank after it ran dry last October. I've followed the instructions, but after I open the nipple, initially I heard air releasing, but no oil came out. I left it open for about 30 seconds, no more air release sound, but not oil either? Is it just taking longer because it's been dry for so long?
After you opened the the little valve did you press the reset button on the boiler? The boiler should kick on. If you are hitting the reset button and it is kicking on, but no oil is coming out you could possible have a clogged oil filter. I would try this one more time, if it doesn’t work then I would clean the oil filter that is usually located right on the oil line from the tank to the boiler.
Oil line is really empty so it takes a bit for the oily froth to come through. I don't preopen the nipple, I first free it then resnug it so I know how tight it is, then I hit the reset button and immediately but calmly loosen the bleed valve like a quarter turn, which is enough. I like to use a closed end wrench because it's easier to keep it on the nipple while you wait for the froth to turn to a steady stream of liquid oil, than an open end wrench, but it all works. If you're careful you can use a 6 inch adjustable, but the 10mm or 5/16 ( depending) is much easier to work with.
@@bristolauthentic401 i have the same issue of no oil coming out of the bleeder valve. must be trapped air in the fuel line. would be nice to have a tutorial for how to fix that.
Another question. I’m like 95% sure it needed oil. And It should be getting filled today. But if it was just the oil that was out what would it be doing if I cut the heat on? Because mine does nothing at all when it’s in auto. Like would you at least get air blowing or would it do nothing?
There is probably something else wrong, call your technician. Clogged oil filter, bad transformer, faulty CAD flame sensor, bad Honeywell control unit, clogged/faulty burner jets in need of replacement are all options.
That type of valve on left side of the bleeder,,,,, should it be loosened all the way orr just a little bit.. say you tighten that valve all the way shut,,, and do u crack it open couple turns? Orr..
Noo i didnt… was just wondering if that should be opened all the way.. cause the furnace here keeps shutting off and on. Wont stay on actually. I reset it. And i bleed it but no go still
My lockout button won't reset. It pulled some oil in spurts when I reset it the first time, now it won't let me do anything...no matter how long I wait to push the button, the lockout light keeps blinking?
You might have a bigger problem than just needing a simple boiler bleed. Without knowing more info it’s hard to say what’s wrong. I would try searching another RU-vid video for “Boiler Locked Out”
@@bristolauthentic401 I figured it out...I had to hold the button down for a really really long time (like 3-5 mins) to clear the lockout. Thanks for responding. 👍
Did you hit the reset button after opening the bleeder valve? If so, make sure the power to your furnace is on (maybe you turned off the switch, the red one usually located on top of your stairs or has an emergency shut off)
If your oil filter is clogged it will take some time before you can get good flow to bleed it. Happened to me last month. Tank was full and only a trickle was making it to the burner. Also when you run out or very low you begin to suck the sludge out of the tank making things worse.
@@bristolauthentic401 so turn the furnace on, the green light is flashing 1-2 sec…. Crack the bleeder open then hit the red button for 1-2 seconds…nothing happens. It just goes back to flashing green light.. now the other day we hit the reset button and it actually came on and went back off but hasn’t did that since.
