Great video Piper. I like the new backdrop, but I surely do miss the pipe and tobacco room background. I loved spying all of those nice little treasures of tins and pipes. I really do miss that. That room is mesmerizing. Fabric fall backdrop is cool, the room was just more intimate and personal. Like sitting with an old friend in his atmosphere.
3.56 (averaged over the 5 members of the local club). For three of us, it was the first English and was at first off-putting. By the second bowl, the characteristics began to become apparent to them and become appealing. To the other two, this was a pleasant visit with an old friend. The taste of old leather, gentle campfire and a peppery finish was most welcome. This is absolutely an all day smoke. If there was no such thing as Northwoods, well...this might be our Boswell favorite *hint hint*
❤❤❤❤ I give 4 hearts to Countryside. Only smoking for the last 3 months. I smoked this in a MM Country Gentleman.This is smooth, creamy, sweet, sour, smokey. While I am still learning this could have a permanent spot in rotation. Flavors and texture of smoke really stimulates taste buds and saliva glands. Packs good with perfect moisture. Also smoked very clean to the bottom of bowl with just a few relights. Nice!
🐺🐺🐺🐺 Very pleasant smoke. Moisture was on point. The aroma is light and reminisent of fresh linnen and possibly candy floss to me. No tongue bite and a good all day smoke.
⭐️⭐️⭐️. Question about rating: tobacco reviews does 4 stars, right? I wonder why, when so many others use 5 stars for reviews. I like your fifth star meaning “you never want to run out”. Think I’ll adopt it. Countryside: I like it, it’s a good mild English. Not sure if COVID killed my nose permanently, but it does seem that my taste is “muted” compared to others, I’m not getting much of the complex flavors that you seem to.
Boswell Countryside 💨💨💨💨 At the outset I will admit that I'm not a great fan of Latakia, though it is a featured component of some of my all time favorite blends (Frog Morton's Cellar and SPC Plum Pudding being among them). I do love Oriental blends though. The Latakia in Countryside, while ever present, did not sublimate the flavors of the subtle grassy and citrusy Virginias or the spicy Orientals. The liquor topping was also mild and added a constant sweet backnote without becoming cloying and produced a lovely room and "tin" note. Though I would describe the strength of the *overall* flavors as mild, they are balanced so well it never crossed the line into boring. The tobacco fired easily and required minimal relights, producing satisfyingly dense clouds of smoke throughout. I experienced no tongue bite. Smoked to white ash with no doddle. Overall I very much enjoyed this blend. It is one of those rare instances with a first bowl of a brand new tobacco that I was disappointed when the bowl was tapped out. I will gladly add it to the rotation for when the rare English craving strikes me. 4 out of 5 puffs!
To me, Countryside seems like a more mild version of Northwoods. I love the strong flavor of Northwoods, but the easy smoking and smooth flavor of Countryside is also very appealing. I will keep both in my normal rotation.
@@Ghost_Os it’s not identical of course, but there are a lot of similarities between the original Frog Morton and Northwoods (it’s quite different from Cellar tho to me)
It’s a great replacement for the Frog Morton line. I think it compares closer to across the pond, in my opinion. Granted nothing is going to be an exact match to what McClelland was doing, but Northwoods scratches the itch for me. Sometimes I like it better.
Hey new subscriber here. I’m so pleased to have finally found a pipe channel that is still producing videos. All of the other pipe channels RU-vid has recommended to me seem to have stopped posting videos five years ago. So glad to find a BOTL still active and smoking. Now I will watch some videos and enjoy this bowl of 08 exhausted rooster out of my Soren setter!
🔥🔥🔥🔥 My first blend ever tried which includes Latakia as a component. Tin (bag) note was quite smokey and I was a bit intimidated but upon lighting... What a delight! Smokes cool, no tongue bite. The Latakia notes that bite your nose with that campfire smoke scent are VERY pleasant on the mouth. Only rating 4 fires out of 5 because the room note is pretty smokey to the world around you who isn't enjoying the pleasure of the smoke firsthand. My lady friend asked me the next morning if I smoked inside, having enjoyed the blend on the porch outside the night before. Great blend, really enjoyed it for my first non-aromatic.
Just throwing this out there, you and Boswell should work together to create your own signature blend. I for one would be curious how you would go, and I would like to try at least a few bowls of that 😊
🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 I really enjoy this blend a lot . I do have it on hand by the way . I enjoy the creamy smoothness and the strength is perfect for my palate. To me this is a all day and a year round smoke as well. I smoke this blend on my walks and I have received quite a few compliments from non smokers as well. Boswell’s has 3 of my all time favorites. Country Side , Northwoods,and Hunters Choice .
💥💥💥💥💥 up until this blend, all I've ever smoked is Aeros. I love aeros and especially sweet ones. This blend though has become my fast favorite. Because of this, I've branched out and tried Bengal slices, plum pudding, and special reserve plum pudding which is special by the way. Soo good. But, Countryside is sweeter, and while some will say this is blasphemy, is just better in my opinion. I love Countryside. I haven't quit smoking it. Nor will I. Definately give this one a go if you're at all thinking about it.
🤘🤘🤘🤘Bag note smells nice and sweet. Perfect moisture. Akin to Northwoods or Sillem's Blackbut lighter and sweeter. Topping is sweet alcohol, perhaps choc liqueur. No bite. Very smooth. Balanced, nothing overpowers another. Great choice for a lighter sweeter mood. Fantastic crossover as most aromatic English blends leave something to be desired.
🍺🍺🍺🍺 good smoke, smooth. I call these types of blends half English half aromatic. You don’t find many English blends that are this mellow and sweet. As always, I look forward to blend club. Gives me something a little extra to look forward to each month. Tomorrow I start on cupcake! Cheers!
🧙🏻♂️🧙🏻♂️🧙🏻♂️ I enjoyed this one and will probably keep it around for an outdoor, porch sittin’ smoke. I bought this blend in January and stored it in a mason jar prior to smoking it. Moisture and cut are good. Smoke is real smooth and I like the mouthfeel and taste. To me it tastes creamy with a hint of pepper which I enjoy. Definitely a good outdoor relaxing kind of smoke.
🌲🌲🌲🌲 I really enjoyed this blend. Loved the latakia, the orientals came through, nice an smooth, just the right amount of moisture and I've smoked it right down to the bottom of the jar already. I'd definitely purchase it again.
Overall Rating: 🍂🍂🍂🍂 Pipe: never settled on one particular pipe, but found it burns best in my Tsuge Fuyu Been smoking: 3 years I'm prone to agree, Countryside is very smooth and creamy. It burns very well and doesn't tend to get overly hot. While no one component is overwhelming, the latakia is definitely present, and the whole thing is mild enough that it makes a good bedtime smoke. I don't think I'd make it a permanent part of my rotation, but I'd definitely buy it again.
Just tried Country Side and it was a very good , tasty & relaxing smoke. It burned very well with only 1 relight. A good start for a 20 year return piper.🤠🤠🤠🤠
Oh I forgot. 5 out of 5 for me. Stays lit, strength is perfect for me, perfect amount of sweetness and Latakia and the price is great. I'd pay more for this tobacco.

🟢🟢🟢🟢 I really like this blend! I get a Tootsie Pop flavor in many English blends. I guess that’s a bit of a stretch but it’s there for me. Countryside has that with a sugary finish which makes it kind of dessert like. Burns easy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Countryside has quickly become my go to daily smoke. I agree with another comment that said it was a more mild Northwoods. I love the woodsy flavors with the subtle sweetness and homeliness. (Almost vanilla?) I never got any tongue bite with it. Moisture was perfect. Will definitely get some more to keep in my rotation.
I would rate this one a 3.5. It's a pleasant smoke and I agree that it is sweeter than Northwoods, I can definitely pick up the cavendish in this one and I get just a touch of vanilla. I too am trying to develop my palate and the input from all of you will help me to determine what components I'm tasting in these blends. Like many I started out on aromatics and have largely switched to mostly English blends. T me Countryside is a good crossover blend with some qualities that aero smokers will recognize.
New to the Boswell blends. My previous go to was Seattle pipe clubs “Mississippi river” just got my tin of country side today and remembered it was a blend club video on your channel. Packed a bowl and smoked along with you. Wow! Is all I have to say. Creamy and smooth indeed! So cool to pipe along with you on the same tobacco. 💥💥💥💥 I think this blend may have dried a touch in the year or so since I purchased it, but still has good moisture. Definitely picked up the alcohol note giving a nice aroma. Nice, smooth smoke.

👌👌👌 The bag note really confused me on this blend. All I was smelling was the cavendish It smelled so sweet that I went and smelled some straight Latakia just to make sure my nose was still functioning properly especially after all the reviews below. After lighting it things changed completely I smoke mainly English blends many from Wilkie , most are heavy Latakia so my expectations were probably a bit skewed. This is very similar to C and D oriental express with far less oriental more balanced but very light. Defiantly an all day smoke. All the flavors come out in this Latakia, oriental, Virginia and cavendish. It is a very balanced smoke. I don't get the Latakia forward it has some sweetness as I suspect this is the Virginia. Only one light was required dry ash at the finish. Smoked in a Paronelli that has only see English. If you like light English this is a great one. Sincerely
Smoked it from a fresh cob. So far, my favorite Boswell English. I don’t know how to tell the Orientals, but I could definitely pick up on the subtle sweetness that offsets the Latakia perfectly, IMHO. I give it 👍👍👍👍👍. I will keep it on hand, and this just might be my new go-to English. I like it a lot.

I noticed a few sweet notes about half way through. I would have rated a 5, just needed a little more flavor.. I agree, this can easily be an all day smoke.
😄😄😄😄 I gave this a four. You're right, it is creamy, moisture was good. Pretty mellow. I could do this as an all day smoke, even though I usually smoke aromatics. 😄😄😄 My wife thought this was closer to a three, but was surprised how mellow it was for an English blend. She is very much an aromatic smoker, so not all day smoke for her.
🍺🍺🍺🍺 my tobacco was a little moist for my liking, but the bag note was decent as I love latakia. I did initially think it was not going to be anything I'd thoroughly enjoy as I prefer heavier English blends.. However...I was surprised with the first smoke...a little rest on my mat and the flavors were just great together....taste was great...could easily smoke this daily...all day. Smooth and creamy and a nice mix of latakia kick w oriental spice...nice room note...I really enjoyed it and will order more!

🐻🐻🐻🐻 I very much enjoyed this blend. The moisture was just right, and it took to the match very well. It has a bit of a campfire flare to it with a hint of hot unsweetened tea bitterness. It reminds me of a much milder, less bitey version of Orient Express. It is definitely milder than I am used to and can be a real all day smoke if need be. I especially like it out in the cooler weather outside. It will absolutely make the rotation when fall comes back around. It smells like fall to me. Glad you introduced me to this one!
👍👍👍👍 I am very new to English blends, however, this blend was pretty good over all. Not to moist, lit easily, stayed lit and was surprisingly smooth. The Latakia was most noticeable but not over the top. I could discern the Oriental and the sweetness of the Virginia. The "no bite" claim is a big reason why I would recommend this blend and purchase it again. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Very pleasant smoke.

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂 I give this blend 5 blowy leaves. I pretty much agree with Muttnchop. Mild spice and subtle sweetness blends together to create something great. This serves as a bridge between those who prefer aromatics and those who enjoy a robust English. I will say that this blend is similar to “Angry Cornishman” by the country squire which is my absolute favorite tobacco. So it’s safe to say that this immediately struck a chord with me. And while I prefer “Angry Cornishman,” if it ever went out of production or I couldn’t get my hands on it, you best believe I would be reaching for “Countryside.”
⭐⭐⭐ I bought both Northwoods and Countryside. Countryside seems like a more mild version of Northwoods as a reviewer below had stated. Northwoods is a bit too strong for me unless, I blend it with a sweeter tobacco. Countryside, although different in ways, seems similar to Maltese Falcon, which I also like.

I do not find the Latakia to be overpowering in this blend. A very balanced blend. Sweet, sour, mild. Very delicious smoke. Would definitely buy it again.
I really enjoyed this blend. I generally like English/Balkan blends more than aromatics, and this one did not disappoint. This had great flavor, and is a great everyday smoke. Not to heavy, and not to light. I am giving this a Solid 😃😃😃😃.

😃😃😃 This was my first english blend, and at first I was not a fan. The smell was a little off-putting and the taste really didn't seem to match up with what I was smelling. I decided to keep smoking it throughout the month and it actually really started to grow on me. I eventually warmed up to the smell, and the smooth taste seemed to get better as time went on. This was a much more complicated blend that I really needed to spend time with in order to really judge what I thought about it. I also noticed that the taste it left in my mouth after smoking was very pleasant and made me want to keep choosing this blend when I was deciding what to smoke.
I like English blends, but I do lean towards the milder types: Stokkeby's (sp?) Proper English, Boswell"s Countryside, and Boswell's Mild English are my "go to" blends. Northwoods is over the top for me, but the three mentioned blends are almost daily smokes for me. Countryside is my afternoon bowl, while I usually smoke Proper English in the morning. My palate is not well developed, but your evaluation of the tastes in Countryside may help me sharpen it up. Thanks for the information. Best regards to you, sir.
⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️ This is yummy. Countryside has quickly found a place in my rotation. It’s very much a light English blend that I enjoy as a first pipe of the day on the way into work. Will definitely be purchasing again. Good moisture content that requires few relights. The blend I compare Countryside to most is Presbyterian, in that both are light English blends that have a nice, mellow, creamy smoke with no bite or harshness. It’s not exactly an apples to apples comparison because the Latakia is more present in Countryside. But otherwise I think the two are similar. I reach for the Presbyterian when I want a more oriental forward mixture, and the Countryside when I want something with just a tad more Latakia. Interesting that Boswell’s advertises this as a medium English blend because I can’t think of an English mixture getting much lighter than this. I know later in the year we’ll be sampling their Light English blend and I look forward to it.

Both make my top 10, which is really saying something because I love so many blends. It is a permanent part of my rotation, and I am starting to celler it and a few other Boswell blends.

🌽🌽🌽 Smoked in meerschaum pipe and new cob pipe. Out of tin, the quality and moisture content of the tobacco was perfect- I was excited to try this Latakia and oriental blend, and the smoke was very mild and it it took no effort to keep lit- I guess I am spoiled from smoking a lot of perique and strong flavor tobaccos like SPC aged plum pudding- still this was smooth had great earthy aroma and was very pleasant. This would make a good early morning weekend smoke. Very similar to Edward G Robinson’s blend.
3.5 Emojis. I enjoyed the smoke and I agree it's right on the money for being a good mild English blend. Good flavor, smooth with no harshness on the mouth. The tobacco was enjoyed out of a nearly fresh MM Country Gentleman.
😌😌😌😌 Again still pretty new to the pipe world but I found this to be very smooth and easy to smoke. The only other English blend I have tried so far is Nightcap and I enjoyed this just as much as Nightcap. The first two Boswell blends have both been really good in my opinion.
🚛🚛🚛 This blend was good, I will finish the 2oz bag but most likely wouldn't buy it again. It is smooth and creamy, moisture was right, but to me it was a little bit light on flavor. Would be a great blend for someone getting into English blends.
🔥🔥🔥 Disclaimer: I'm relatively new to pipe smoking, so, I admittedly don't know what the heck I'm talking about! That said, I have smoked some English blends before, and its a mixed bag for me. I'm still figuring out the art of knowing that this blend is more latikia vs orientals, and what those flavor profiles taste and smell like, etc. I do enjoy plum pudding and I do like Early morning pipe. This for me was just ok. Smelled good in the bag. Right amount of springiness in the tobacco. Wasn't dried out. Burned well and the bowl never got too hot once. Used a p-lip Peterson straight Dublin. For me there was a hint of sweetness that turned into a spice or a twang as I got 30 mins into it. Don't know if that was the orientals I was tasting or what. Was not a sour taste to be clear. Enjoyable enough but I don't know that it will find a permanant home with me. Gonna give this more time to grow on me.
I'm way behind, but I'm trying to get caught up and participate in the blend club. I enjoyed this blend and felt that it was a great mild English blend. I found it smooth and smoked well. It was milder than I typically smoke, and wouldn't be my go-to blend, but there was nothing bad about it. If someone was looking for an introduction to lighter English blends this would be one of my first recommendations. I give it ⚗️⚗️⚗️ for me, but ⚗️⚗️⚗️⚗️ for someone looking for a more mildly flavored English blend.

🍺🍺🍺 Look: Light brown and darker brown Moisture: ready to smoke does not need to be dried or moistened. Tin Note: you really smell the Latakia. You may be able to pickup a little of the orientals but my old factory sense is not that good. Smoke / Burn: smoke was full and it burned nice and even for me. Flavor: First off I am not a fan of English blends so the smooth sweet note I got with this blend was a pleasant shock. I did enjoy smoking this blend. Room Note: The most common comment I got was “it’s OK”.

**** This is a really tasty blend, the tobacco is Goldie locks, and burns well. I can smoke this all day and it is not offensive. I can tell it is a light English but very enjoyable to smoke. Great tobacco to have on hand...
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 I enjoyed this months more than last months for sure. Although I still picked up more flavoring than tobacco. Moisture is fine. I get a little smokiness from the tin note, still a generic aromatic flavor to me. Not bad, not for me though.
🍄🍄🍄🍄 The orientals are as strong as the latakia. The only complexity is the varying levels of sweetness throughout the blend. The latakia is creamy, the orientals are strong in their sour way, The virginia appears at least once. The nicotine content is mild but is there. Moisture was correct out of the tin and required no relights. Doesn't qualify as a true "no biter" for me, but perhaps I deserved the minor bite I received. Very close to qualifying as an aromatic. The added sweetness is strong. 3.5/5 or 3/4

This is the first English I tried after smoking aromatics for a couple weeks. I don’t have the palate to pick out the individual flavors of tobacco, but mostly all I’m getting from this is a juniper berry flavor. Mild sweetness. Maybe someone can help me with what tobacco would give off that note. It was a very mild smoke. Maybe I need to try Northwoods next… 🤔

🥺🥺 very meh for me not a great room note or bag smell and i felt like i could taste cloves. I will keep and pull out once in a blue moon maybe as i go on it will suit my pallet more in a different season. Im a uncivilized, returning after years of being away, piper that did not get into the nuances back in the day so having to learn about different tobaccos and their flavors.
