I really like the fact that your contents are very friendly not only for beginners but more advanced people. We all can learn something new and helpful every time. It’s so cool you’re taking the balance of it well. 👍🏼
Thanks Tomoya! Yeah I'm trying to find that nice middle ground in terms of pacing and information in each video, thanks for noticing that haha! Still trying to improve on that front though, it's a nuanced skill of putting together a good instructional video I have found, and I definitely suck at it still haha.
This tutorial is fantastic. As someone who is new to the software but studies sculpture, it gets you to the point where you can do the artistic part fast and hassle free.
Thank you so much for this tutorial man! Really appreciate the fact that it's neither too fast nor too slow, and that you mention every step and shortcut along the way Extremely helpful!
That's awesome Rob! Haha yeah it's true, sculpting was always daunting to me and I avoided it for a long time...once I got started though I had so much fun I haven't looked back since! I hope the video at the very least gets you going in the right direction!
Great video! I enjoyed the speed and the explanation. I have ben using blender for almost two years and I am just now feeling comfortable with the program.
Thanks RMP! When you're done show me! I love seeing what small spins or touches you guys put on it to make it better, especially if you put some of your mo-cap magic on it haha
@@RussellMidfield Now that would be interesting!!!! Once I complete this character project, i'ma work towards creating it and add some mocap to it, also you rock for the idea!!! thanks!!
Such a great video, so helpful for people like me who are just trying to come to grips with all the buttons and settings in Blender, thank you so very much for this 👍👍👍
great tutorials, I do have to stop and look up certain functions as quite a few of those shortcuts don't work for me.. so Cut and loop for instance I needed to look up where that is in the menu.. but aside from that, very helpful, thanks.
Thanks MC! Oh sorry yeah some of the shortcuts may have changed in the last few versions since I made this video, I'm glad it got you going in the general direction though!
This is a very helpful tutorial, this means a lot coming from someone with Dyslexia. It took me a while to align the reference images but then I got it going. Thanks Heck, I used to confuse the Reality of the words with Realty. As in selling real estate as opposed to what is real. funny hu?
I'm a beginner in 3d art. I was going to try ZBrush but decided to stick with Blender having some knowledge of it. Having knowledge for me and being able to do it is two very different things. I know practice and I'll get it. I 3d print on FDM printers and more recent resin printing and painting, even more learning there! My goal here is to learn how to sculpt, yep more learning and more time. I like the idea of using ref pics to help in blocking. My ultimate goal is to sculpt mini's, monsters, 3d character animals and be good at it. Yep more time and more practise. Am I in the right place to be taught all this?
Hello Russel. I found out that your work is exactly what I need to learn. But also I found problem (almost all 3d modellers have same problem) - you already have references. A learned a lot of similar tutorials and when I finished them I don`t know how to make my own model, I`m just stacking when I can`t get side, front, top view for models. So to sum: 1.Great work! It`s Exactly what I need. 2. Just asking - May be in future you can show how to create same references or work without them (if it possible) Sorry for my English. Actually, I`m russian :)
Hi Gryazekrab! Thank you so much! It's very true, working straight from a reference and copying it isn't always the best way, I agree. That's a very good idea, it is very possible for sure, I can do it in a future video! никаких извинений, ваш английский отличный! мой русский - Google Translate, ха-ха
Loved it just subbed and ill watch all i can. Do you have or will u do a riggin tutorial.Im starting but my goal is to model a character and i want to rigg it, do u recomend model de basic shape rig then sculpt? tyvm!
Thabks! I do have a rigging tutorial yea! I usually model the rough shape, sculpt, retopologize, texture paint, then rig and animate. Yeah modeling a full moving character is a lot of fun, lots of different steps, its a fun process!
@@RussellMidfield tyvm! yea its the jaw titan from attack on titan, but i want to model it and kinda have the rig to change posses and 3d print the one i like. i Saw ur tutorial excellent btw.
@@RussellMidfield yea if in the future u make a video from projects of your followers and u comment o make sugestions etc.. ill gladly send mine when i finish haha !
What drawing tablet do you need to start on? Iv tried 3d box modelling with polygons didnt work out hopefully 3d scultping will be much user friendly. Im thinking of studying lighting too.
You could certainly sculpt this bear without a tablet, mouse is fine! If you wanted to try a tablet I would say any Wacom, Huion, XP-Pen would get you going just fine. From what I've read, people generally tend to find the 16-inch models and up are better as any smaller you may find that you can't get the right strokes, but obviously everyone is different. I had a small Wacom Intuous many years ago and found that it was just too small. Now I have a Huion Kamvas 20 which has worked great for me.
Can you also do a video like this, only just with like a image from a monster like creature from google? This was a awesome tutorial only when I try to make stuff, those colored images aren’t really good to find
@@RussellMidfield Your welcome!! For example I'm very new to sculpting in blender. And I would like to make some pokemon for example. Now I started with Gengar but even though he is only a ball mostly, I find it very very very hard hahaha
Yeah no worries! I sculpted the bear first myself, then I put the camera in Orthographic mode and rendered the images for the front, side, and rear views!
hi bro, i have problem and i am so tired from searching and no answer help my problem i copy or import an object from blender to blender so every time i set the origin to center and set the object and apply all the transforms and every time i open the blender the object change his location to another place i try many time and no fix
It sounds like you may have some animation keyframes associated with your object. Select all of your objects and go to the Animation tab along the top. There should be a Dope Sheet window along the bottom that will show if any of the selected objects have animation keyframes. If they do, they will show up as yellow dots. Select all of the dots and delete them.
Is the brush wrapping around the mesh only for drawing tablets? Been trying to figure this out for a bit but can’t find anything online so kinda stuck lol
Hmm I don't think so! I think the only thing that is different with a drawing tablet is the pressure sensitivity function. What do you mean by wrapping around the mesh though?
I’ll try my best to explain haha. Don’t exactly know the terminology yet. For me when I am using the brushes the area of effect of the brush (the circle) only faces towards me (stays a circle). I was wondering how to get the circle to face the mesh you are sculpting (so the circle doesn’t only face you, it can be rotated when you move your mouse or pen around the mesh). At this point I am assuming its a setting that I can’t find haha. I hope this explains it?
Oh I see haha! That's a good explanation! Hmm, it still turns/wraps for me even when I use my mouse and not my tablet. What version or Blender are you using?
The version was the issue.. was on 2.8 and never updated to the 2.9. It never crossed my mind that that could be the issue even though its the first thing I check when it comes to unity lol. Thank you so much for the help! Means a lot
re: 7:06 Selectability icon in object list (upper right corner). If you don't see the arrow icon click on the (filter) funnel just above the list. Then click on the second icon.
Hello! Thanks for the video! I made a small house, but on the front it is dark and on the left if it has light, even though I put the light pointing towards the front, what do you think it is due to?
Question: For some reason, after I do the proportional editing (around 18:00) I cannot get any effect on that leg in sculpting mode--I can still sculpt the other objects though. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Hello Russell! Hope you are doing good. I have a bit of question. If I wanted to share the art work , which media platform would you prefer and how should I send you one?? Thanks!
@@RussellMidfield haha thanks but please keep the expectations as low as bottom of the lake lol This one is a 3D character I made on just the weekend so 😅
@@tomoyaogawa4485 Haha lol! No way, this is white sandy beach material! I know it's going to be awesome and I'm going to love it, guaranteed smile on my face :)
I find when using the smooth brush it seems to have the opposite effect. It makes things jagged and protrude. I've searched online as best I can but I can't figure it out
Oh that's very strange! That can happen if the voxel size of your mesh is too big. Does making the voxel size smaller and then pressing Ctrl+R to remesh fix it?
@@RussellMidfieldI tied different key combos to try and achieve the view selected ‘numpad + period’ on a MacBook that doesn’t have a numpad , and that may have resulted in a change.
To be honest you should make paid tutorials on udemy when you perfect your style, I feel bad being able to watch all these amazing follow-throughs without paying anything!
@@RussellMidfield I just finished the second part! Thanks for the tutorial man it was a lot but I was able to complete it haha. I want to 3d print my own models once I get good so this was a great step in that direction :)
