I bought your "Rig Anything with Rigify" Course and stumbled over this alot and wondered why my rig was always whole black and waht this menu was. I was aware that it must be something with the blender versions though. This video helped clarify it.

Great tutorial as always! One thing to note for anyone who is wondering this. On blender version 4.1+ I believe they changed how selecting bones work when weight painting the model. On 25.56 when you select the rig and then the model follow by going to weight paint mode it is no longer Ctrl + click on the DEF bone to see the weights, you now have to use Ctrl + Shift + Click to get the same results. Was wondering for an hour why it wouldn't work as this was the shortcut for a long time.

Alt+click also works. I am sure I mentioned this earlier in the course.

Thank you for your lessons! They really help to understand rigify more clearly. Could you please make an example of creating a skeleton for the simplest stylized character? Something like spongebob? A lot of bones make the rig too difficult for a simple character, I'd like to see how you optimize it. Thank you!

Thanks for this. I got confused, I couldnt find the Assign button because I was under the Rigify bone Collections window instead of the Bone Collections window... 🤪

Very useful tips, thanks! But I have one question - when you rotate the right collar bone, the whole arm rotates with it, is there a way to off the rotation of the hand? I suppose it has to do with heredity settings?

Set the "FK Limb Follow" option to 1.0 :)

First of all, thanks for your tutorial, man, it's awesome! But I have a problem - when I generated rig, it already had all menus and collections. And when I removed them (with minus button) and rearranged as you did, when I regenerate rig, it loses all custom shapes and becomes just octahedral bones. Maybe something changed in later versions? I followed your tutorial series with my own model (digitigrade dragon with hands and wings, standing upright in A-pose) and created a custom rig, like you did in previous video. Edit: I figured it out - problem occurred when I deleted "Face (Primary)" and "Face (Secondary)" collections

Great tutorial, I wonder if you can add a new bone collection into the Rig Layers *after* generate the rig without re-generate the rig in metarig armature. For example, after generate the metarig, I add hair bones into the 'new' rig. If I going back to metarig and add 'hair collection' then regenarate the metarig, the hair bones that I add to the 'new' rig will be gone. I'm sorry if my question is confusing. I'm still learning rigging stuff and your channel is a big help for newbie like me. :D

@@CGDive I've check the 4.0.3 rig_ui script and it has completely different script. I can't find the script line such in your video or am I missing something?

I've got to say that the new bone collections system is much easier to work with than the old rig layers system.

is it possible to have custom properties? Like a slider, or a toggle button. In another version i used sliders to change the viewport subdivision count for the entire model, so it was more responsive when animating. And toggles to hide and unhide certain parts of the model, like a hat or accessory

Which is the best for rigging a Cartoon character? Rigify or AutoRig Pro?

For a cartoony human both work. Auto-Rig Pro has some tools for integrating cartoony eyes but I am not expert on that.

After generating the rig through Rigify, how can I convert it to b-bone?

I have never heard of converting a rig to b-bone. You can use b-bones in your rig and Rigify uses them already. But convert to "b-bone" doesn't ring a bell at all.

Hi Is there a way to modify a rig layers with script becuz I tried doing the way P2DESIGN did but it does not work. Like just imagine that you rig the whole character and adjust few bones that needs it and you are happy about the rig but you want to add extra bones for the hair, and you have to regenerate the rig so that you can have a hair layout and the worst part is that everything will go back if I regenerate the rig any solution to that. I am kind of struggling in that, i had to regenerate the rig just for the hair rig layout😢

I don't understand why you are doing it the P2DESIGN way. That is only for fixing old rigs that you open with Blender 4. This video shows exactly how to create any custom menu you like.

@@CGDive yes that is right but I don't want to regenerate the rig or else all my upgraded rig will go if I regenerate the rig Like imagine that you rig the whole character and upgrade the rig like give the rig a muscle bones or adjustable bones that the character needs and then finally you want to add hair bones as-well-as rig layout how to do that, if I regenerate the rig all my upgraded rig will go away 😭
