In this video, we will add audio, set up automatic lip-syncing for the mouth, and we’ll see the basic steps taken when animating our character.
This video is one of four, detailing the character’s creation, from sketch to model, to rig and finally covering my animation workflow.
I have added English subtitles. If you would be willing to translate these into a different language, I would be happy to publish these to help others follow along. If you are able to help, contact me via the email in the 'about' tab: www.youtube.co...

you are a master... when I was young, I want to animate like you. 20 years earlier ... in this time don't exist tutorials, I don't had internet in my home. I learned to animated simple things in after effects, I make a chapter in Flash (very little), and eventually did renders for architects on 3Dmax... I never could realize my dream.. now I have 39 years old, I working editing videos and the most funny part is color grading. I tried to be a colorist but is a difficult nich to work. Now e see your videos and Im nostalgic, I would love to comeback to this dream, but I feel old, to much time lost.... Congratulations my friend, keep growing, keep doing this amazing job, make your dreams reality .

Maybe worth noting that in order to get the mouth shapes to work while moving the head around I had to go into each frame and make sure to add the grease pencil to the vertex group for head turn. Well I ran into not being able to install rhubarb in the latest Blender, but I've learnt a lot in these tutorials, even though it wasn't easy to follow at times, so thanks a lot. Also your animation is very nice, I think you have a good sense of rhythm and movement in there.

Thank you so much, you kind word mean a lot to me. Yes, the with mouth, each drawing is a new set of vertices so must be attached to the vertex group, which can be inconvenient. Another option would be to parent the mouth layer to the bone. You can find this under 'relations' which can be found a little bit underneath the layer panel. Also yes, I have also noticed that Rhubarb has stopped working in the newer version of blender. This has to do with the new pose library. There are currently some user made fixes out there, or some other work arounds, but unfortunately there isn't that 'plug in and it just works' type tool anymore. Thank you again, and I'm so glad that you made it all the way through, even though I may have made certain areas more complicated than they needed to be to follow. :D

I feel like I finally have the tools to have time to tell the stories I want to tell. I can't express gratitude enough for the developers at Blender foundation and to amazing people who set their time to make wonderfull tutorials like this for free. Animation is something I always loved since a kid and always thought was too dificult and time consuming to learn and persue on my own still having to work on a regular job for living. I haven't even dreamed about animation because I've never even considered It was possible, instead I've spent most of my life persuing writting as a mean to tell my stories, which is also great, but finally I feel tecnology has gotten to a point where I can do it and when I am watching those kind of tutorials I get quite emotional, I think I've discovered a childhood dream I haven't even aloud myself to have before. Thank you so much, I know It takes a lot of work to record and edit those tutorials.

Oh men, this is awesome. Mainly from a Joysticks 'n Sliders background. However, I feel this workflow underutilizes the 3D nature of Blender. It is a 3D program men, why not just making it in 3D? You could at least using a 3D object as a reference for the movement. Anyway, the result is top level and I learn a lot in how to make things from scratch for 2D and 2.5 in Blender, which is extremely useful for certain situations where there is no other way to do it. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hey Joel. Great video. I am having trouble getting rhubarb to sync to my control bone in pose mode. I have a mouth rigged just like you set up. I have the audio and text file in the rhubarb menu. I have my poses working and matched to the rhubarb menu. I have the audio file in the timeline at the correct frame. But when I go to hit 'Rhubarb Lipsync' nothing ever happens. I have made sure the pathing is direct and not relative. I'm not sure what else to do. Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate it.

Hi Chris, I'm sorry to hear that you're having these issues. I think that the only thing I could suggest is to convert/export the audio to a .WAV file (32-bit float PCM works for me), I've found that it seems to work better with rhubarb. I'm glad you liked the video. :)

Is this something you can attach to a facial recognition program to use this as a face cam for streaming?
@SketchySquirrel
@SketchySquirrel 2 года назад
Hi, at this stage, blender is unable to do this. You would need an addon that allowed for a video input, that could track your face, apply it to the rig, and output a video of your character all in real time, and this is something that Blender can't do right now. If you need to accurate and highly customisable, but time consuming facial tracking, blender is a great option, but for live streaming, I would recommend using a tool that is designed for this. :)

I am working on mp3 files, and you are in .wav that seems to be the only difference in the set up that i have and the one you have. Do you think this is the source of the problem?
@SketchySquirrel
@SketchySquirrel 3 года назад
I've done some tests, and It does seem to only work with .wav files, so try converting your audio, and see if that works. If you want you can still use the MP3 in the final output, just using the WAV for speech recognition. Hope this helps. :)

@@SketchySquirrel thank you very much for your commitment and your support. I figured it would be the problem was that and I actually made it work after using the .wav file. @SketchySquirrel
@SketchySquirrel 3 года назад
@@mateoacevedocontreras6087 Thanks Mateo, As far as I can tell, the lag issue is purely dependant on your system. Audio isn't unimportant performance-wise, but I don't believe it's too bad. If you find that it's unusably slow, you could replace it with a low-quality version, then switch it out before rendering. Thank you so much for your kind support, I would love to see what you've made so far. Thanks again. :)
