heres the secret. you dont. not entirely. im willing to bet that aside from having some reference images in mind or even on another screen a lot of the forms and details are "made up" on the fly. you dont have a perfectly realised image in your brain from the start ;)
Amazing! may I ask how you model so efficiently without any form of snap turned on? objects never move the way I intend unless locked to an axis or snap
the trick is that the grap tool, by default, favours the view plane but does try some context sensetive adjustments which can be unintuitive at first. it will also auto constrain to the orthographic view. that said not using snapping is a contextual choice given the organic shapes present. if you need snapping to get your shapes right thats perfectly fine. i've been using blender for 10+ years and still use axis and grid snaps regularly. it depends on your personal style and method. everyone developes their own way of doing the modelling and no one method is "correct" as long as it gets you the desired results :)
