2 years later and you are a god send already on the first part. You talked yourself down on the intro (Although the time-lapse was amazing looking). And even if all I watched was this video, You have helped me tremendously. Even though in the beginning, when you showed stuff like setting up the quick tools, I was feeling excited and impatient to get actually started, that stuff was super helpful and nothing in the video was a waste of time.
Honestly, these videos should get more attention. There's not a lot of modular tutorials out there that take beginners into account, so thanks for making them!
Thanks man! And i completely agree, learning this stuff was very difficult. It was hard to find a single source that covered all the need to know fundamentals and techniques in one so i had to learn it all the hard way over many years 😁. Hopefully i was able to help fill that gap in the market. Thanks for watching!
This might be interesting to Blender newcomers (just as myself): instead of manually toggling increment snapping on and off, you could also hold CTRL while moving the object. This will also make it snap to the grid. I find this a little more convenient while moving the objects around in the viewport (aand because I often missed toggling snapping). There you go :)
Do you think you don't know how to teach, sir? I can say that this is the best explanation I have ever seen in my life. You taught me the simplest things very well. Thank you very much. Also, the music that you put in the video is professional and makes you focus on the explanation as much as possible.
Thanks so much 😁. I am used to teaching but more in a one to one setting or in person in a classroom. Giving lessons online was a new experience for me where i am not dealing with any one person specifically. Im glad it translated across in a positive way at least 😎
But before that, you should delete the overlapping faces, then joining the pieces with control j, and after that select all vertices and do a quick merge-by-distance. Then you have a clean corner piece 😉
Thank for sharing your knowledge just showing how to use the shear to create the corner piece and then getting the origin in the right place explained so much that that little bit of info is something I have been stuck with and has discouraged trying to make modular parts thank you again
Thank you so much for the series! This helps a lot. For example I did not know that you can use the shear tool the way you did it with the corner pieces.
Yes you are maybe not the best at teaching and yes I have to get used to your speechpatern - BUT you know your stuff - AND that is the most important thing! THANK you for the time & effort spent on the lessens. You are an hidden gem!
I'm finding your unplanned, conversational style of explanation to be way, way more digestible than other tutorials I've watched. Planning on watching the whole series. Thanks for taking the time to make these.
Thanks a lot. This reinforced a few things I already knew and helped make better sense of the snapping system, which had been trial and error before. Also, You're the first I've seen to recommend and show how the Q menu works. I've got so many things to assign to that. Happy to subscribe to your channel, and I look forward to checking out the next videos in this series and beyond. Cheers.
Delighted!! The quick favourites menu is easily the most overlooked and powerful feature Blender has to offer. Im so happy someone else appreciates it as much as i do 🤣. I would love if it had some customizable features or an ability to reorder and group certain functions, but still im grateful. The print has been worn off my "Q" key for sure
I know, i starting out myself i specifically remember how hard it was to find a starting point. Thats partly the reason i decided to make it, so nobody has to suffer as i did 😂. Thanks for watching
2:48 ctrl+A for the context in reseting/aplying transformations, i do prefer use Q menu for "checker desselect" or "select random" in edit mode because they don't have a native key-shortcut and are not that common used but when you need to use you need repeat it a lot...
I am just now starting this today as of May 8th, 2023. This is the type of art that I want to make as a 3D Artist. I've been using blender for about one year but this kind of stuff is what I want to be able to do on my own, I'm super excited to learn and understand the workflow.
I'm super new to blender and want to get into the modular asset workflow...so this was practically made for me. After working through the first part I feel like I got a great leg up on a ton of vital concepts. TY!!
I will add even though this is a year old, Ctrl+A is the hotkey for applying transforms. Unless you use the quick favorites method but it does have a shortcut. Awesome video's thank you!
12:48, in case you don't need the mirror you can just add that loop cut down the middle, then bevel it to turn it into two loop cuts, then just scale them apart.
Damn, best videos on this topic on RU-vid for sure. Everything is explained so well, I had a problem with corners and you made it so fun and simple. Thank you
