⚠The Pose Library was updated slightly in 4.0. Watch this video to learn about the new pose library shelf. Everything else still works the exact same way. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jtse_jUq7rk.html
So this pose library is just a collection of "Animations" that have 1 frame? I really hated doing this in the past, they didn't improve on it much. If you have a pose in action editor, it gets mixed in with real animations. Which is a pain to sort. Your injured animation is in the same drop down as the pose library.. That gets messy. They should be in a section of their own. The legacy pose library was way better.
Wow so instead of being able to save a pose with a button or hotkey, you have to open 52 editors first. Blender seems to have completely lost sight of the rapid and easy usage principles it had initially. Saving a pose should be no more difficult than keying bone positions
blender is really confusing for someone who's just learning it. Why do we need to jump through 15 hoops just to save an asset instead of it being a shortcut or something by default
Ok, this is a point that got me quite stuck. I understand that this is a video meant to be "in context" but I had a pose which was based on scale, not rotation. As a result, I wasn't able to 'reset' it with alt + r, and I had to search how to reset scaling on bones. I understand that posing is a 'separate' topic; however if we are talking about how to make sets of different pose assets we should get this point down.
Thanks, Todor. The asset library rocks. I wish Blender could implement some approximation algorithm so that even the poses with some variations to the bone structure could work for your particular rig. The same sort of a retargeting tool which Unreal Engine uses.
Yeah, I was thinking that it wouldn't be possible to do. We have retargeting tools that do that already. It would require some setup tho even if a workflow existed.
In case anyone else was confused why the video has a bottom tray and yours doesn't (assuming it doesn't like mine). Go to the botton to where it looks like you can click to expand and then right-click and split horizontally.
It's cool, but i don't like the fact that file will become flooded with actions. Guess I will need sort the pose assets using the prefix in their names.
Hey, great video Is there a method to extract a pose from an image/picture? Imagine I take a picture of myself doing a specific pose, can I get the pose and apply it to a 3D avatar? Thanks in advance!
Not in Blender right now. There are AI tools that can do that but connecting that into a full workflow that makes a pose for Blender might be difficult.
Thanks, this was very helpful! I get a Python TypeError from time to time when I try to click "Create Pose Asset". No idea what causes it. Sometimes it just depends on the frame I'm in.
Thank you. This was very helpful. There is one aspect that is very important that you did not talk about. I will use your injured animation walk for the example. I want to paste the start pose of the injured walk to the end of the walk to make it a cycle. What do I have to consider in order to make this happen? Any help would be appreciated.
In blender, you can select a keyframe, copy it, then past it (ctrl+c ctrl+v in an animation editor). I did not talk about it because it wasn't the topic of the video :)
Not sure if there has been some sort of update, to the side Panel at 11L but when I right click a Pose in the side Pose Library I am only given "Edit" as an option, nothing like I'm seeing there
at 12:27 you hold control to affect the other side. thats not working for my rig. did this change in 4.0? i can still right click and apply flipped pose that way but holding control doesnt work
@@CGDive thanks for looking! I'm actively animating right now and that was frustrating that it wasn't working lol. At least I know what the problem is. Thank you so much!
Do you think you can make a new one for blender 4.0? I watched this video but its so different that its completely unrecognizable, I can't figure out how to save a pose
Honestly, I am not sure what you mean. The only change is that they added an pose asset shelf in the bottom of the 3d view instead of the N panel. Everything else is a carbon copy and works the same way. Please watch this to learn about the shelf: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jtse_jUq7rk.html
what if i want to use the saved poses of a mixamo-boned-character to other character with different bone names, can i use Expy kit to convert their names to mixamo, and it will work?
Hi, is there a way to apply constraints like copy rotation BEFORE saving the asset? If I add the asset to another file/rig without the constraint the pose is messed up. Thank you! Awesome vid as always! :)
@@CGDive But if I apply the contraint and want to record another pose the constraint is gone. Hm, maybe I can copy the whole object every time before I apply the constraints. Thank you!
I have to ask since I am new to this app. Why would Blender delete an animation when I make a pose from the first frame? It deleted a test animation. I did not have the animation in the action editor. I just copied the first frame of the animation in the graph editor. This is really weird.
/@@CGDive Thanks for responding to my questions. I have tried to find the test animation by switching back to the graph editor and the timeline. When selecting the character controls it only shows one set of keys and that is the first keys in any of the editors that I bring up. Like I said I am new to this app. I try to just play the animation and there is nothing there. I tried to revert as well but that did not take me back to the animation. I checked in the folder where I have been keeping these Blender files and there is no iteration but would not think there would be in the first place.
