Music and Lyrics by Laura Story
Arranged for the Manila Chamber Singers by Ily Matthew Maniano
The composer, Laura Story, wrote this song around the time when her husband was diagnosed with brain tumor. According to the composer herself, that experience put her through unexpected episodes of fear and loneliness, which gave her a new perspective of God's blessings.
Just like the composer, this song encapsulates and expresses everything that many of us are going through yet we are at a loss for words to express them. Every time I whisper the lyrics or hum the tune, I am reminded by these passages from 2 Corinthians 4:8-9: "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."
It is my hope that through this song, beautifully-arranged for the MCS by Ily Matthew Maniano, we will always be reminded of the blessings we receive yet take for granted, and more importantly, that blessings are actually found even in the absence of the things we pray for.
