I had so much fun creating unique and multi-sensory soaps. From cutting, to moulding this was an almost seamless, blind friendly hobby. I'm always so excited to find something that's easy to do without sight. I'm definitely going to be making more, and giving them away as personalized gifts. Would you ever try soap pouring?
What You'll Need:
- Soap Moulds
- Melt and Pour Soup - Clear or White
- Measuring Cup(s)
- Butter knife

Instructions:
Step 1. Cut soap into small chunks and place in a measuring cup
Step 2. Microwave soap on 30 second increments stirring and repeating until fully melted and smooth
Step 3. Add a few drops of colourant, and essential oils until desired fragrance add colour achieved.
Step 4. Pour into mould.
Step 5. Add 1/2 teaspoon desired dried herbs or flowers
Step 6. Wait 4-6 hours until cured.

Very fun, very accessible, and excellent gift ideas! I like to hand make gifts and I prefer ones that get used up instead of those that have to be dusted or stored. My wife acts as my seeing eye human. Its nice that Robbie acts as yours. A couple of thoughts for future projects. Since my vision is low I tend to spill. As you know I like to cook and bake and when I use dyes or food coloring I make sure that I wear a chef's apron to protect my clothes from that type spills since I'm kind of a klutz with liquids. You mentioned that the sugar didn't dissolve when you made the soaps. May I suggest using Karo syrup as a substitute for sugar next time? Corn syrups will give that sugar smell but will blend with the soap and they also make any bubbles the soap creates last longer since it increases surface tension in the soap. Kids like blowing soap bubbles. Adding Karo syrup to the soap that makes the bubble lasts longer like glycerine does. Neither one is harmful to the environment but Karo syrup is much less expensive.

I usually put on an apron too! I can’t remember if I did for this or. It. Next time I do soaps I think I’ll put a cookie sheet underneath to catch my little spills, but since it’s just soap it cleaned up pretty easily. Awesome suggestion on the liquid sugar instead of brown sugar. Definitely something I’ll experiment with next time!

That looks like a lot of fun. Do you have some vision? You seem to bring things very close to your eyes. I do the same thing even when there are things that I could not see no matter how close I got to them.

I definitely enjoyed it It’s a force of habit as I used to have more vision. I feel more in control of things when I bring them close to me, but in this case I really couldn’t see a thing I was doing. I mostly get light and occasionally some movement or gross shapes of the lighting is right. My vision isn’t really measurable anymore so I’m well below 20/1000

LMAO I hold my phone in front of me as if I can see the video; it really confuses sighted people especially when I have my AirPods in.

So, you might get a kick out of this story; my dental office now uses an iPad to complete all patient forms so when I ask for it and then return to the desk with all the forms filled out I could tell that the receptionist was confused. Now, I should’ve been happy to explain how I was in fact able to do that but I didn’t because for once in my life I felt completely ““ normal!!!

@@starjestis8293 That’s so awesome! I love when places have iPads and you can just turn on accessibility! I definitely enjoy anecdotes like that!

Tamara, it’s great to be back watching videos, and I’m in love with this topic. I researched soap making years ago but was very discouraged by it. This video really makes me want to try my hand at it again, especially since this year is about minimizing costs and being as economical as possible. This could have the potential to cost less than buying bars at store prices with the benefit of some customization. I did have some questions though. How did the soaps work? Did they moisturize? Did they leave a pleasant scent? Did they melt into soggy puddles in a damp shower, etc? Did you find the honey and lavender added differences to the soap’s effectiveness, or were they mere decorative and scent-based variations? Can you explain a bit more about the rubbing alcohol step you mentioned in passing? This video was so fun to watch. Thanks again for a fantastic viewer experience! 😂

I found the soap all turned out fantastic. Melt and pour comes in many different types so one of them was moisturizing with shea butter. I added a few essential oils so they all smelled fantastic when used. No soggy puddles. The rubbing alcohol spray was just to disrupt the surface tension in the soap and pop any wayward bubbles. Not strictly necessary but helpful if you wanted a smooth back to the soap.
