X-MEN '97 1x9 REACTION Tolerance is extinction Part 2 : Xavier is met with some distrust, but the X-Men focus on stopping Bastion and convincing Magneto to reverse his blackout. Magneto re-establishes his mutant haven on Asteroid M choosing to leave Earth without power and reject Xavier's dream of mutant/human co-existence. He invites the X-Men to join him, which Rogue and Roberto do. The rest of the X-Men return to their former base on Muir Island to regroup, before splitting into two teams: Cyclops's Blue Team goes to Asteroid M to confront Magneto while Storm and Jean's Gold Team and Forge head to Bastion's hideout in the Galapagos Islands with a collar built by Forge that can block Bastion's technopathy, severing his control over the Sentinels. The Gold Team battles Sinister and an army of Sentinels that Bastion is powering himself. Sinister takes control of Cable's mind and uses him to overpower Jean who sends a desperate psychic message to Cyclops. On Asteroid M, Xavier attempts to take control of Magneto's mind, but is blocked. Wolverine stabs and seriously injures Magneto who begins ripping the adamantium metal from Wolverine's skeleton.

Watching someone who has very little to no knowledge of the comics is always the best way to experience these reactions because they genuinely don't know what's going to happen. If you know the comics, you at least can predict where it's going.

I do wish they would have used the quotes Magneto said to wolverine in the comics when he ripped his metal out, the whole speech. This actor could have pulled that off so perfectly. But oh well this was still amazing!!

Seeing a comic book come to life is amazing (X-Men #25 specifically). That image of Wolverine is straight from the pages. This season ends with an onslaught or an apocalypse.

People watching the show have bought into the propaganda that Bastion said he would put out about Xavier. Xavier didn’t leave he was in a coma he was effectively earth dead and Shi'ar tech was his only chance of living. Xavier is ALWAYS the choice because his is coexistence while Magentos is isolation and retribution, making him effectively the "those who have the power makes the rules" option the exact same thing he swears hes against. Even though canonically this series is set in the 90s its revealing the world today and how short our attention spans are, how we are easily duped by misinformation, and how we let emotion remove ALL rationale and critical thinking.

I still think I would have sided with the X-Men rather than Magneto because you still have to consider the huge number of human civilians who has no involvement in this conflict of theirs as well as mutants who refuses to side with Magneto because they still have some connection to their lives on earth.

I agree. More jnnocent lives were most likely lost due to Magneto than the genosha attack because this was global event and not restricted to an island. Many of the ones that died were probably mutants aswell

@@redram6080 I agree that many died, but it seems many mutants would die anyway as Hank's scan shows SO many Prime Sentinels everywhere. Some of them could be patients, or pilots on those planes, or kids like Jubilee just realizing their difference from the rest. Rogue's own father denied her - but what if a child is a mutant and parents turn into Prime sentinels. What Bastion did could not lead to good consequences whatever the heroes could do. He was too far ahead.

Gambit will be back....But as the horseman of death for Apocalypse. Also Wolverine is not dead....he's going into feral mode which is a essentially a berserker Wolverine. After his adamantium is ripped from his bones his healing factor goes into overdrive. Thus, giving us feral wolverine with his original bone claws.

They good over it in the dialog by saying he declared war on the planet and I haven't seen any other reaction channel address the fact that Magneto's EMP didn't just deactivate sentinels but all technology. Thousands of not tens of thousands are dead across the world. Car accidents, planes falling, hospitals and infrastructure all gone everywhere. This isn't m just a fight about conflicting ideologies anymore it's literally all out war and negotiations aren't going to be enough to end things after what just went down in this episode

Pretty sure in this version anyway Logan never had bone claws like he was kidnapped and experimented on then the claws he got from that . He never had bone claws before just his healing factor & heightened senses . Idk where this is gonna go lol like magento wants to let the whole earth die & just leave earth

Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd Storm looks so fine!! Like the goddess she is. I get Roberto going with Magneto, but damn it, mate, you think saying sorry would make it okay?. I understand Rogue's pain and why she would go with Magneto, but it still stings and her speech strikes hard. Also, Magneto says 'Shut Up' to Charles was a long time coming. The ending just left me shocked.

The scene where Wolverine went for the kill...I had the comic book... Wolverine went for the kill, Magneto used his powers somehow caused the mental to pour out his skin pores which nearly killed him, Xavier used his powers to vegetize Magneto's brain and somehow mag's evil psychie and Charles dark side created the being of Unslaght from Charles.

Yes Wolverine can heal idk if they will follow the comics exactly but the trauma from having the metal ripped from his body caused Logan to lose his humanity and become feral. He runs off into the woods and the team has to find him and bring him back. In the comic its another non X-men related character that helps him regain his sanity so they might need to change that for the series. I hope they introduce the Acolytes in the next season or at the end of this. The Acolytes are a cult of mutants that follow Magneto and live on the asteroid with him. Personally I would have chosen Xavier no doubt.

What would I do? It's pretty obvious and I don't get how Charles lost sight of the obvious immediate goal "Ok Erik. Lets go team up for real and slaughter Bastion as a team. Lock up as many prime sentinel volunteers as possible. Then we can talk about the rest"

No he didnt that aspect of the characters came later when Chris Claremont took over the book. The original all white team is an alegory for MLK and Malcolm X? No the idea of mutant was just so he wouldnt have to come up with an origin for their powers and so being mutant was just a way to give people powers.

Magneto was closer to right. Xavier was too impolite and imposing. Manners make the man. Magneto is well mannered. Magneto might have even listened to Charles had he approached with respect and manners.

While I'm not a fan of most villains, one thing I can't stand is when someone doesn't even bother to understand them. They are a character in this fictional story just like all the others. Talking to the screen isn't going to change his script or actions. He's crying because she got emp'd and got taken out by that. His sense of things is warped due to his programming by Nimrod and Mastermold. It's one thing to be talking to a fictional character that isn't ever going to respond to you, and another to not even understand the character of this fictional story you are watching. Like Madeline said, not Jean. Wolverine healing factor is stupid strong, mentally though that might damage a person.

For so long Xavier but now probably Magneto. Um Wolverine has a healing factor but you need time to heal; sowill Wolverine get that time maybe. Though yeah this is good the X-men are amazing; but I mean you have stuff like Shogun, Planet of the Apes, Prey, Pam and Tommy and more on Disney+

I think they made a mistake escalating Magnetos reprisal into this world ending thing so quickly, cause it kinda dilutes the central point a bit. Going by what the X-Men are saying and what Magneto is saying, it's literally the end for everyone on earth but that's all mutants who aren't on his asteroid thing as well presumably? They don't show him offering a place to any of them apart from the X-Men in the one scene or providing transport and the show itself says they have 12 hours so his plan is going to result in mass extinction, exactly as Prof X says. That is slightly disproportionate given how many people had nothing to do with Genosha, how many innocent kids are gonna die just like Leech did. IMO they should have had him switch off all the electricity, as they did but not include this whole "the world is going to end literally in 12 hours" thing. Have some humans be angry and worried about the power situation, have Bastion and his sentinels still doing what they're doing in this episode but also show some humans admitting that you can only push a group so far before stuff like this starts to happen and that whoever did the Genosha massacre is to blame. Without the ticking time being such a huge thing, it'd make sense that they still feel like they can reason with Magneto, try and talk him down, etc, it'd make Rogue and Sunspot siding with him more reasonable as well.

Agreed. This episode left me disappointed. So many plot holes and completely illogical actions. Xavier forgot Magneto saved his life (did they retcon that too?) No one is surprised/cares that Magneto survived Genosha or was captured. He starts creating a new Genosha without making sure there's no Bastion to destroy it or avenging the killed mutants? His personality is more extreme than mine, but I would not want to depower Bastion like Hank suggested. I would want to annihilate him. Magneto seems to forget about him. And why is it so difficult for him to save the planet? Besides, he forgot that without the planet's magnetic field he gradually loses his power... And the X-men treating him as a villain equal to Bastion, dividing their team - they could not do anything more stupid. The character archs seem ruined, and nothing closes this episode unlike episode 8 that was satisfying for me. I don't understand what the characters are doing anymore.

To be honest, it's a draw. I'm not particularly attracted to Xavier's speeches, but I'm also not a fan of Magneto's radicalism. Even before the Bastion, people wanted to expel mutants, so there are two choices - resettlement from Earth or a mutant war with humanity.

FYI. It never showed that Magneto even knew about the prime sentinels. Them being destroyed was just a side effect of what he going to do no matter what. He had that card up his sleeve already.

Why are they focusing on 🧲 Magneto instead of Bastion the real enemy? FOH? Why doesn't storm want bastion to be stripped of his powers? Bastion is literally trying to kill all mutants. Sunspot joining magneto didn't make sense as it took him a long time to accept and use his mutant powers. Where is quicksilver and Wanda? The kids of Magneto? Now that wolverine is absent of his adamantium he is almost human. With jean grey dead will she return as the phoenix?

Sunspot made perfect sense Look at all his moments through this season.he was never really fully on board with the x men's ideology.almpst every episode he faced persecution,the genoshas massacre rocked everyone including him,a fresh mutant mentally,and to top it all off....hos own mom not o ly told him to keep his mutation a secret...but sold him out.his own flesh and blood...that's horrid The only person he has seen working and pushing for mutants was there leader,magneto Right when he meets professor,he is not feeling him at all and even questions him outright It makes absolute sense he would side with magneto.he was there for him when it all started

Whether it was comforting Morph at Sinister's Castle or protecting Rogue and Gambit while simultaneously protecting the Morlocks on Genosha. He truly honored Charles wish and gave it his all.

They are under a time crunch. Magnetic field of the earth is about to tear the planet apart while bastion still think he can win If they can save bastion, he might be able to help fix his mess he started by removing the virus. Magneto was the only leader Roberto really had and he feels like he can live an easier life around mutants Unknown and not really relevant I really hope so
