I was looking for a comment like this. Yeah this one stung. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact he has to explain that to people. I’m 30 now and it’s a shame how much mtv had downgraded. I’m glad we lived in the time of music television and radio.
This was really cool for Mark to do. I remember being a teenager when these videos were available to see, there is so much more footage than what was shown, and as a young musician being able to watch one of my favorite bands, it meant so much. Now to sit here much older and to watch this footage again with Mark... is actually so cool.
I used to watch these kind of videos on repeat. Will always hold a very special place in my yeart. If you’re a fan of blink, green day, sum 41 etc. I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to check out my bands new demo. my favourite part of the actual physical copy of the album was the little tidbits of info in the artwork on how each song was recorded. I remember going in my room after school and playing the record and looking through the artwork simultaneously.
I know exactly what you mean. I just picked up the Untitled record on vinyl yesterday and the inside has all those little notes nice and big on the inside.
Demos don’t exist. They were demo-ing at the same time as recording and writing the songs. It’s wasn’t done in discrete chunks like the previous albums.

'what the hell look am I rocking back then?' he says with the current strangest haircut ever EDIT: can't wait for Mark to be rocking that signature look again one day real soon - sending love to the Hoppus fam
My favourite Blink album by far. It was such a step forward in terms of experimentation, songwriting, and emotional maturity, and it's one of those records you can just put on and let play all the way through without skipping any songs.
I write music as a hobby and feel that way every few months until a new inspiration hits me, but I can't imagine being in an actual band on a deadline to finish an album and having that feeling and the stress that would come with it.
This is seriously one of the best examples of why the Internet is so important nowadays. To be able to have this level of insight into the making of one of the most impactful albums of the 2000s and one that arguably changed the scene forever by one of it's creators is just marvelous! Already loved the MTV special before and I love it even more now, thank you Mark for this.
Must be the weirdest thing when your friendship becomes a business. Funny looking back nearly 20 years and as an adult seeing human dudes and not just blink 182. You the man Mark thanks for aw the tunes and being a stand up dude.
Like imagine. When mark said "There it is, that was the death of punk kid" I think it is crazy having a demo of a really great song and the seeing LIFE footage of it being forgotten and just briefly remembered 20 years later. Thats crazy core
I remember having all blink albums in 2003. I had no internet, no idea there was a new one in the making. I was watching MTV back then and suddenly feeling this popped up. I remember going absolutely CRAZY the first time i heared it. I was, and still am, completely WILD about this album, by now I know all the lyrics by heart. I've always been a blink kid, eventhough people sometimes judged me for that. I never changed my love for your music because of other people's opinion. I picked up the bass and started a stupid punkband in my little hometown of Brugge - Belgium. This album got me through some realy hard times. By the time I got internet, I watched this documentary at least a1000 times back in the day. Back from the day I was 13y.o. wore baggy pants and weird looking shirts with wacky hairdresses. My bass is still standing next to me in the living room, I'am about to be a father myself any minute now. I want to thank you Mark, for passing all the laughs, all the chills, all the vibes, all that magical california feeling straight back to Belgium. You're the best!! BLINK 182 FOR EVER
Another belgian blink kid here ! Imagine me and one of my friend being the only 2 idiots wearing baggy shorts and white socks pulled up high with vans and nobody getting it except us. I truly enjoy the fact that White pulled up socks are finally a thing for the youngsters now in the 2020's. I have the feeling that pop punk is coming back. Who knows... my newborn daughter might go through the next phase of poppunk music.
12:28 I feel like parts of Punk Kid became Here’s Your Letter. The notes and melody are in there, just not there pattern wise. The first part of the chorus gets played right before “the camel’s hump” gets a beat down
This video is unbelievably cool - I remember being in high school waiting all year for this record to be released and watching the studio clips slowly release as it progressed. I bought the physical CD the day it was a released when I was 16 - I now have the vinyl framed and hanging in my apartment. A masterpiece of an album and so cool to hear Mark look back on it all these years later.
Fun Fact: At 27:01 you can see one of the Prototypes for Toms ES-333 with an Orange Stripe and Headstock instead of the Creme stripe with Natural Headstock
Glad to see all this stuff. The work that you've done in blink 182 is very big and impressive and it's cool to allow us to see more anecdote like this. It remember me the "Tale from beneath your mom" book but for Untitled ! Thanks you for this video !
just got this CD few days ago and im 14...ive been obsessed with CDs for almost 2 years now and music is all i want to do...its everything for me and blink is my favorite band!
@@SethWill07 He hated BCR and it was the reason why they broke up the first time. So no he didnt support it. But maybe now he realizes that he shouldnt have been so mad about it.
Thank you Mark, for being awesome. I remember watching this when it aired. this album still means a lot to me to this day, all your guys music does. I follow all the branches of the Blink tree. Keep being awesome man!
This is my favourite video and it was so fun to watch on your Twitch 😂 Thank you for uploading it to RU-vid! I look forward to more of the videos that’ll be added here
Thank you for sharing this with us, Mark. Blink 182 is a lifeline band for lot of us, your albums are soundtrack of our lives, your music accompanied us through bad and good times. we love you, guys
Travis did an amazing job on helping write the songs the drummer keeps everything moving if you have a limited drummer you will eventually hit a brick wall.
Self-titled/Untitled is my favorite album you guys ever put out. It came out when I was going through a lot of shit in my life and it helped me through it all. Stockholm Syndrome will forever be my favorite Blink song
As an amateur musician and long-time blink fan you have no idea how valuable watching this was for me, since this was the album that introduced me to blink. On top of that, having your commentary and live reactions was incredible. I had the best time watching this along with the guys from Discord. Thanks so much for everything you've done.
I loved when bands used to have In The Studio documentaries and videos, not just on MTV but so many CDs you bought you could get a "deluxe edition" with Making Of footage on a bonus DVD. It is so cool to get to see someone almost 20 years later looking back on this footage and giving even more information on that time period. I wish Mark (or anyone from any band, really) would do this with more footage from previous albums! This is truly one of my favorite albums of all time and it's fascinating to see any part of what went in to the record.
Sadly it seems that all went away with cds, but at the same time we have RU-vid now. You can see countless footage of bands or artists whenever wherever so I guess it evens out. It was just cooler and nostalgic when you actually got a separate little movie with the cd of your favorite bands.
I never had MTV growing up so that was bad ass to watch w the commentary w you modern day. I purchased “untitled” a few different times because it would get scratched. Blink 182 is partially responsible for me being who I am and I just love you guys so much and appreciate the hard work.
Lol How did Mark not know about this documentary!?! It was Iconic, every true Blink fan watched the hell out of this back in the day and still now. Sick Doc.
I was a huge Blink fan back in the early 2000's and remember recording this on VHS at the time and watching it over and over, so it's really good to see Mark commentating on it. At 1:03:40 Tom is wearing a black Atticus jacket. I remember buying one off Ebay at the time, dyed my hair black and walked around school in 2003 thinking I was the coolest kid on the block 🤣😂🤣
I have every blink-182° Album, on CD, and I'm damn proud of it! Even though I don't listen to them on CD anymore, I still make sure I purchase and personally own a copy of my favourite bands music! I remember me amd my friends watching this Documentary so many times along with the Urethra Chronicles over and over when I was learning bass, singing and starting our band AWOL-Active, it motivated us so so so much! I noticed Mark has so much love for Tom and his jokes still, and laughs so much, you can tell the bands ups and downs never effected their true friendship. Also, big respects to him shutting down the call tom requests for their amusement. Love you Mark 🤘🤘🤘
Mark, Im loving that you are watching this and reacting right along with us. Thanks for doing this! Your music has inspired me for years! Im 47, and have been playing guitar for over 30 years now. ill never grow up.
Man watching Mark review this was a thing of beauty. Would love to see some of him watching the Urethra Chronicles to hear more Enema and TOYPAJ memories!
Still an epic life-companion of an album. It's been there for me through all kinds of sadness and happiness, time after time. What a nice creation. I will always be greatful for this one. 💗
Man... I can only imagine how much it hurts to see Jerry Finn in these old videos.. It hurts me and I didnt even know the dude. He was essentially the 4th member of the band and a HUGE reason why they (amongst many other big time bands) were so successful. Rest Easy, Jerry Finn.. life is so precious, man.. dont sweat the small stuff and love as much as possible because thats all that truly matters.
You are awesome- I am in my 50's and loved you all from the start of Blink-182. Now That I see you played the original Animal Crossing Dam, Dam. My wife and kids play that all the time- You'll never see my comment but I just want to say that I want you to get well beat cancer and continue to have the time of your life.
I may just be late to this but I just learned about the videos in the Enhanced CD. I have all of their albums on CD and I never knew about the videos. It's really cool.
Thank you mark and blink for this album, it means so much to me and so many. I still remember the red cd player I had when I bought the album. It’s a timeless piece of music.
hey Mark! I'm 12 and I'm a huge fan and I love your videos and blink-182 as a whole. I am collecting all of the blink-182 cd's and they are all awesome! congrats on the reunion! good luck Mark! enjoy the tour! (I sadly cant be there :( but, its ok)
When MTV broadcasted blink's untitled album documentary in March 2004 (at least that's when it was broadcasted on MTV in Europe) my girlfriend recorded it for me on VHS because I was on a school trip with our class at the exact time it was shown on TV. It meant so much to me and I would come back to the documentary time and again (later on youtube, of course) because I was so fascinated about how all those songs came together and all the banter and fun between the three band-members and their friendship just made me like them even more. I gotta admit, though, that I wasn't an instant fan of the untitled record. It took time to grow on me, but then it became my most favorite record ever. I'm pretty sure that the documentary did its part here as well. Anyway, when Mark recorded his reaction to the untitled sessions I watched most of it, but couldn't help contemplating about those days being over and it made me really sad. Now that Mark, Tom and Travis are back together again, Mark is healthy, and their upcoming record is just weeks away, I can finally sit down and watch this with a smile on my face. Thx, blink! Love you, always!
This whole thing gives me so many feelings. The album, remembering this documentary, seeing Mark laugh at Tom being dumb. This album changed my life at 10 years old. Maybe the second album I ever owned, and possibly my top album of all time. I'm glad they pushed the release back so many times because the result was a total masterpiece. Blink became the first band I ever got obsessed over.
I like how excited Mark got for Animal Crossing it makes me happy. I have lots of fond memories of the og Animal Crossing. This whole video was really fun, I loved all of Mark's commentary! And it's nice watching him smile at things and remenise.
This was an MTV special. I recorded it and watched it literally everyday. I'm a musician, and that 2003 record changed my life. I was obsessed with it.
Listened to blink and boxcar a lot as a kid (10 yrs old in 2004), and having a sort of rediscovery of the music and the band mates lately. Watching this is amazing
Ive tracked and recorded two full albums since March last year! As a gigging musician and producer I have literally nothing else to do in these crazy times! Some great inspiration on this vid. Thanks man!
@markhoppus THIS ALBUM AT 14 BROKE ME, SOOO DEEP AND EMOTIONAL FOR BLINK! I'M LOST WTHOUT YOU MAKES ME CRY ADORED IT AND I SEEN YOU IN 2004 AT 14 TOO THE FIRST TIME. ALL OF THIS IS MY OTHER FAVE AND VIOLENCE
I remember I recorded this with my vcr and a blank tape off of mtv when it originally aired. Brings back a lot of good memories when life was a lot simpler.
