Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge stop by the Googleplex for a conversation about social media, the evolution of the band, and their latest album: "Neighborhoods."
This is hilarious. Mark and Tom are just being asshats, taking the questions and having fun with eachother and the interviewer is like "what are your favorite features about google plus?"
im 24 right now. I got introduce to blink thanks to this albun. I loved the songs but i didnt understand it very well. Now as an adult and all the shit I have seen this album touches my soul.
Riiiiiggghhhhhht? How fuckin dumb. It's like "hey guys thanks for coming tell us how much you like us." 😑 And yes mark i had to push a button to view this. Lol.
Mark wasn't even aware of Boxcar Racer, and he felt like he was kept in the dark, and betrayed. The remorse and distrust with Tom started there. Mark accepted Travis being on that record because Tom didn't know who else to ask, and money was money for Travis at the time. There's a lot of history there that you ought to read up on, because it's interesting and you start to understand how Tom's ego became bigger than Blink.
+derk ramone yeah, tom asked mark to do a guest vocal when it came time to record the record, but as far as Tom actually writing the record, mark didn't have a clue tom was doing that until he read about BCR in a magazine interview. Look it up, mark blatantly talks about how it made him feel
I literally clicked on a random spot in the video to see if they ever change the subject from google plus in the next twenty minutes and the first thing I heard was "google plus" out of that guys mouth.
What kind of questions are these? "Using Google+ who would you to meet alive or dead?" They're random questions and they've just thrown "Google+" in somewhere.
This was 2011. I remember watching this while waiting for the train the day it came out. Google was really pushing Google+ back then, and a lot of people really wanted something new after facebook. Mark was very into it, and that's why they are there for this interview at all.
Thiago Ribeiro you are so right.. i felt something but could not figured out what it was, and yes i agree with you, mark sometimes look sad with his new band mate Matt.
Mark brings Scott up time to time, He answered a question on a reddit AMA about the last time he talked to scott and he said "Not for a long time, too long" A lot of bands just don't like to bring up old members because they want to avoid drama
It's not that Mark was upset about Scott or anything, it was the fact that someone brought up a question about their history, and it's a negative one that includes their break-up.
Jorge Arce Cofré He suit the simple fast past sound they had from Flyswatter to the end of the Dude Ranch era. Wonder where and what they would sound like if he was still around.
Neighborhoods really is a kickass album! Considering that they were running out of 2 studio's and sending material back and forth via the net. It feels like there was still some awkwardness between the band members during the recording process, but they still managed to make a solid record and after watching this clip it seems that mark and tom are great mates again! Neighborhoods is awesome, Dogs Eating Dogs is just as good. We love these guys!!!!
Tom: Chatroulette? Mark: -nods; Tom: I've heard about that, but I haven't done it. Mark: I haven't either. I'm too afraid. I'm just too afraid. Tom: I keep thinking it's just gonna be a naked man. Mark: That's all it is!! Tom: Is that what it is? Mark: THAT'S ALL it is! Tom: It's like his dad [points to Mark] is just waiting for me. Mark: -laughs;
So many annoying comments here, but this is still one of my favorite Mark and Tom interviews. So many comedic gems 😂. Also, Tom’s prediction on music and the industry is spot on.
"Wishing Well" is definitely the most infectious song from Neighborhoods. Mega props to Tom as Mark said lol. Also, crazy to hear Mark talk about Shoreline as that's the only place I've ever actually seen Blink. Seen em three or four times.
Ernesto Dlr he's secretly and subtly trying to express his homosexual curiosities without being too aggressive about it but I think the 20000 times gave it away
Why does everyone assume that they know what Tom's or Mark's sense of humor is? Why does everyone assume that they know how they feel? That they have "changed"? Or that they have any inkling of who they are as a person?? Because you have seen videos or interviews of them? I think people need to chill out
After I bought a merch t shirt after their set, I saw a group of people excitedly yelling near a fence... it was tom saying hi to fans! I joined the group and held my merch shirt for signature. After holding it up for a minute he grabs it and jokes, “is this your underwear?” And signed it! I still remember the feeling of him grabbing the shirt, signing it, and handing it back. Thanks Tom! This must’ve been 15 years ago...
WithaSideofButter yea but this was a full 2.5 years after they got back together. You can still tell that at the time of this interview, Tom had already gone back to giving zero fucks about Blink 182. He looks so disinterested, it's almost painful.
I remember being excited about the internet back then just like them. Now, I fucking despise it and I'd give anything to have all the record stores and everything else it destroyed back, including the requirement to speak/see people more often so others would do it again.
15:38 30:49 tom and mark have fun in this interview they were still friends and tom still cares about blink he just had to much going on that he had to leave but he is planning on returning
honestly it depends on interpretation, and I think your's is more projecting than anything else. for example, my opinion is Mark is probably more responsible for Blink being fucked than Tom - because I see Mark's tendency toward arrogance, and being a bitch. I 100% can see him telling Tom fuck your family, come tour, or you're out, which Tom said.
Next time Mark goes live on Instagram I'll ask him what was his experience of this and if they got paid for this failed attempt trying to get them to say why Google+ is good.
Haha awkward when Mark basically calls Tom out for not hanging out with fans at 13:00. I get why he doesn't (its probably weird), but thats definitely something it seems Tom would rather not broadcast and seem like a dick. Totally seems like his behavior thought to just be done after the show and leave immediately. Thats why Mark is always the last to leave the stage.
Tom and mark are both smart individuals. They are both respected entrepreneurs and musicians by many. I'm surprised that there are so many fans who didn't already know this.
Tom seems to have more spotlight than Mark. A lot smarter and at the same time he seems like he outgrowed that life. Mark seems interested in the attention and everything that comes with that life. Tom seems much more deep im character. When Tom talks Mark listens like if he was listening to a teacher.
Unfortunate that such a large portion of the interview was focused on Google+ but I'll take any little bit of Blink-182 news if I can get it. Loved seeing Tom and Mark bring their humor and immaturity to the show - thanks guys! :)
wow, these guys give pretty good answers regarding all the technical questions. especially impressed by tom answering the question regarding whether music should be free or not
Dammit Tom I used to love you so much. Mark is being friendly and engaging...and Tom is sitting over there looking like he can't wait til this shit is over. What happened to the friendly, funny, lovable Tom?
+samachi I think his personality just shifted. he just lost his sense of humor. became a more serious individual. not that's there's wrong with both but I prefer people have a light sense of fun in everything. pure loving and giving. how wonder how it be for a person to turn from spongebob to squibward? I guess sometimes we shouldn't take outlives as serious? and have to realize back that it's all for fun. you get what you make out of it.
Its weird how they started as basically kids/friends, and with how famous they are, are still down to earth and just want to do for their fans what they wished their favorite artists did for them.
Lol bought a computer to look up UFOS and now re-searching them has become his life. Kicked out of band because of it lol. The internet ruined Blink 182 lol
i don't care about google plus either, but i loved how sincere they sound on how they work or their thoughts about the music industry, i never thought i'd learn such interesting stuff from blink. fuckin love blink
Is it just me or is this interview just painfully awkward. Like they're trying to joke around with each other but they dont really want to respond to each other's jokes. They hardly even look at each other. Holy lord you could taste the tension. Bleh! Yucky tension!
They were best friends for twenty years. This was after they had a massive fall out . But they were completley different before . They actually acted like best friends and had a laugh with each other and it was like that for two decades.
You can tell Mark is controlling, he makes faces in every interview when he gets asked questions he doesn't like and Tom looks at him awkwardly like "ah shit, here we go again"
13:55 I really think Tom didn't appreciate that interruption from mark...kindda seems like mark still thinks he's a 19 year old trapped in a 40+ year old body lol
