Absolutely not. This has nothing to do with lines.... She trained you to " THINK " = deconstruct things from top to bottom, from complex to simple. To then being able to not see a all and be submerged by it but see each and every part of the whole. This is definitely the best video on " how to think " on the internet. One that can apply to absolutely everything in life ! Love it. Love people like her 🤍🔥 passionated, curious who love to share their knowledge.
"Do the long lines first, (in the blocking). Long line, long line, long line,......" Very powerful teaching. It drilled the above concept into my brain. Long line first. 👍
I began learning to draw only a few weeks ago, and this is by far the best video - and I've watched plenty - on how to block in. Now I see how to do it right.
I’ve never had formal art training so this is helpful and useful information for me to practice. I’m one those guys who wants to get the details right early in drawing but have seldom used any blocking in until recently. I must watch this a couple more times. Thanks for sharing this video. ❤️ it.
I had 4 years of formal art training at a top US art school and never learned this. I learned this from taking workshops with Classical Realist artists in my 30's. This method was systematically rejected by US art schools in the 20th century. Modern Classical Realist ateliers are now making the information available again, and the internet is helping artists and students who want to learn to draw well find one another. There is so much information now available than there was for artists who trained in the 20th century.
Great illustration! Instructions was clear and straight forward- thank you so much! I have been trying to learn to draw using knitting needles for measurements which drive me nuts because every-time the measurement yields different results- I think enveloping, observed and correct is a better approach for me - thank you so much ❤️
When you finally found someone analytical that is walking you through the process of drawing jesuuuuuuuus she's good ! Not only at understanding things for herself but for " TEACHING " which is just a synonym to " EXPLAIN " THEM !!! 🔥🔥🔥 This is the first time that i'm watching an old video on the internet and the first thing that come to my mind is " I HOPE SHE'S STILL ALIVE, CAUSE SHE HAVE A LOT TO BRING TO THE WORLD. " !
Alive and well! Thanks for your comment. The RU-vid content is just a sample, I have an entire program of pre-recorded courses at www.sadievaleriatelier.com along with mentorship options.
Absolutely marvellous. This is indeed the correct way to draw. Thanks Ms Valeri, you're the real thing. - John Angel, Studio Director, Angel Academy of Art, Florence.
At that timestamp I am drawing little details all around the edges, which is a great way to make a terrible drawing. For better drawings, draw the big shapes first, medium shapes second, small details last.
This is a great video Sadie. With the fruit, are you employing the sight size technique? If not, you placed the arbitrary width of fruit. How did you determine the height without measuring? This is all done by eye? And then editing if it doesnt ‘seen’ correct?
I might be wrong but the way I see it the initial width doesn't matter, it just determines the scale of the drawing ( It can be anything, she's definitely not doing sight size ). Something very important she talks about is how the lines afterwards like the height of the pear/apple etc. 'vibrate'. Like they're not exactly anywhere, they're just in a general area. They may be wrong and she constantly adjusts them using her eye as she properly continues the drawing.
I teach the artist to develop their shape accuracy without external tools. An artist who learns to rely on their intuitive knowledge continues to develop their accuracy and sensitivity every year for the rest of their lives. My Intro to Classical Drawing course shares the method I teach: svatelier.net/downloads/intro-to-classical-drawing-and-bargue-plates-r1/
@@thomaseulogy7206 No. External tools teach you how to use external tools, they don't teach you how to draw. In order to draw well, learn to pay attention to your feelings., Your feelings are more precise than any external tool. Most people block out the feeling that a shape is too wide or too tall, because our egos prefer to pretend we never make mistakes.
With this method you can draw at any scale you like. Start the drawing with two tiny ticks marking EITHER the left/right points, or the top/bottom points, whichever is longer. Set the largest dimension any size you want, and don't draw outside of that.
