I just saw Blockbusters appear in the movie This is England. Wow, this brings back memories. I used to watch this as a child. I was never any good at it! Fond memories :)
I remember a Scottish lad on this show in the mid '80s. He was such a smart ass contestant and would answer his questions with such arrogance. There was a question with the letters BBYD, which went a bit like - what a little boy might say to his pal while playing Cowboys & Indians. He answered with such disgust in his tone, as if to say how dare you ask me such an easy question, and even stuck his own word at the beginning when he said "Oh Bang Bang You're Dead!" I've been looking for it on YT for years but still haven't found it.
Everything about this show is just so warm, from the analogue nature of the board to the way that Bob says "You dare!" when the lad almost picked the J. Interestingly, this did happen in one episode, there was a neutral square, but the contestants filled up the entire board as they were the first, and last ones to ever do this.
Have taken part when Bob conducted it in Dubai in early 80s [Courtesy: KT?!?. And, later in the local version "Capital Letters" at Ajman Studios. Good memories.
There's no real adolescent general knowledge quizzes, anymore... Only ego driven drovel , like reality and talent shows...Today, most kids know nothing, only what they see on social media...
Not often a question is incorrect. The question was “what did Neil Armstrong say was a small step for Man….” and they interrupted with the answer ‘step’. The question should have said “what did Neil Armstrong say was a small step for a man…”. If he had really said “for Man” then it wouldn’t make sense! It would have him saying “This is one small step for Man(kind) but one giant leap for Mankind”.
10:36 I've just noticed on the board on the 2nd row of letters are the letters O, R, A and C. Orac was the name of a fictional character from the sc-fi series Blake's 7.
Wonderful show. Some silly questions though such as "S" please Bob- What is a sudden police raid... answer "swoop". Could be Sting. Annoying program sometimes....
