In the 1980s my wife had a habit of copying the looks of various singers ranging from Paula Abdul, Juice Newton & Alison Moyet to Kim Wilde, but she did Debbie Harry best, and copied that dress for our wedding, and oh boy, did she wear it well. Happiest day of my life.
Debbie Harry’s career went back a long way. She was in a folk band called Wind in the Willows in the late 1960’s and even worked as a Playboy Bunny around the same time.
Watch her dancing on Union City Blues for another example! She can sing but man she cannot dance at all!! 🙂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hvqgb1D6Opw.html
Me too! Blonde was my childhood crush I was obsessed with her in my early years. If I can remember correctly hearing this song and seeing her I was becoming a man if you know what I mean 😂.
American Bandstand was a classic. Blondie was one of the most amazing groups to come out of the late 70’s. The vocals, the style and the drumming of Clem Burke!!!
I was so surprised how talented Blondie was as a band. Their first album was ground breaking for New Wave fans. First time I heard Dreaming, I became a fan for life.
Blondie - the group was just loaded with talented members. Love Debbie! But, you gotta love the group as a whole. I’m sure 50 years later Debbie would agree.
This is the jam! Blondie ahead of the times. Even the album title " Parallel Lines " is genius. They should put this song in emergency rooms when patients are flat lining, the rhythm might bring them back tapping their feet. ❤
Agreed. I recall first hearing it on car radio and thinking, “Wow, this is DIFFERENT!” It had an element of the current disco genre but her voice was so ethereal.
My parents knew her parents when I was growing up. I was pretty little, but I thought it was the neatest thing that her parents would tell me all sorts of little things about her. It was such a big deal to be able to tell my friends that. She was touring at that time, but it was fun to hear all about her and growing up.
Likely because of good session musicians. Thomas Headley above laid it out in detail but a lot of times the regular musicians don't play on the albums or are at least supplemented by session players.
Underated?!🤨 They were voted into the Rock N Roll hall of fame in 2006 which is a pretty big deal! There's alot of big names that are not in it like Billy Idol, Sound Garden, New Order, and U2. Freaking BILLY IDOL?! How can he NOT be in the hall??This is a fucking tragedy so this gives you an idea how hard hard it is to make it into this prestigious class.
I don't recall hearing that she ever had a musical education or took voice lessons but her voice is amazing. NOT just her natural voice but how she uses it and does not OVER do it.
Man she was an amazing beauty and the band was really underrated, they were all very good musicians. Blondie was not a novelty band and they nailed the era musically, it was fun and upbeat. And ole Dick Clark was actually one of the most gracious interviewers ever. He booked the best and they all became legends
Harry is a dude. Not joking. Probably a castratos, which gives him the high voice. In some vids, you can see the crotch bulge (I forget the song, but wearing a blue jumpsuit). I've been studying transgenderism in the entertainment industry & beyond (including actors, professional sports, etc.)
Disco Biker Barefoot Acrylics Wrong. She was born in 1945, her name was Angela. You might try looking up facts, but even without knowing that I can tell you from experience she is all woman, and classy at that.
Lindisima Blondie, si abremos bailado con esta cancion, en la decada del '70, epoca de oro, fue mi adolecencia, gracias por existir, (te saludo desde Argentina).
A perfect blend of rock, pop, punk, and disco.... genres that don’t usually get along well together. Supremely talented musicians. A song that defined that era at the dawn of the 80s a couple of years before the 80s even began
Amazing band, voice and a song. First time I heard it, we were not even in US yet, we were immigrating and were in Italy, and I heard it multiple times in the town center. Didn't know the words or who sang it yet, but loved it then and later finding out the band and loving the song even more, and still do.
@German BG Of course- what would make you think I don't know that? I simply commented that it was funny that nobody was lip-synching the background vocals.
As far as I know, nobody performed live on American Bandstand. However, that’s not uncommon on TV performances. They usually tape the performance in a studio and then play back while on stage with live mic to pick up the audience. I once went to a taping of the Johnny Cash show in the 70’s. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition we’re performing a medley of their hits and it took 3 takes mostly because the drummer kept accidentally either hitting a drum or cymbal.
Live versions suck. They are never mixed right, they rush through it. They usually sound like it is all playing through a cheap tweeter. Plus the musician are all high.
One of the best band surprises of the 1970s, adding to the magic of a diverse and magical decade in music. Dick Clark in typical form engages interviewing the band in his trademark comfortable style adding the personal element to something already great on his show.
Yeah that's one thing I never fully understood why they considered this punk because I'm sorry that's not punk! Reggae that's been turned into disco yeah that's pretty much what it is but punk no!!
@@American-Motors-Corporation Blondie was considered New Wave and Punk was also happening at the same time. There was a lot of crossover with people listening to both.
Debie una mujer exisita tan talentosa kisiera vivir pero deverdad los 80 90 yo seria tan feliz y si pudiera drsir lo ke me paso a mi y a muxas pero komo fisen es el pasado😢
Yes, times were different. But even then, the idea of someone dancing around to a record pretending to sing was pretty lame. I like when bands acknowledged the foolishness of it by not plugging in their instruments. Not a bad band though.
Not only that. She also had a keen sense of irony and fun minus the snark that made her even more alluring. She didn't take herself all that seriously.
yup, and the rest of us ugly bastards can take solace in the fact that EVERYTHING eventually goes OFF in the end :P all these great looking people get old an ugly with the passage of time nobody is immune from the ravages of time that keeps me happy anyways knowing it can't last :)) sometimes i mumble to myself did ya bastard die! not debbie but others who are "beautiful" and/or "perfect" lol
@@blu3collar949 Haha.... No bouncers, This is television show...Silly goose...I was a regular dancer on that show for two years .... And... We all had a blast!! ( (Also got to see Michael Jackson and The Village People and so many more amazing talents of that time)
She was an extremely tasty biscuit in her day. Saw her performing live in a small venue on New Year's Eve nearly 20 years ago and gave her a dozen long-stemmed roses. 🥰
Que hermosa chica de Blondie , un excelente grupo que nunca pasa de moda. Hoy en 2019 los escucho al igual que ayer. Muy hermosa chica con una incomparable voz...
Hard to believe I was working on my Paper Route & about to become a dishwasher & Cook at Poppin Fresh Pies, (Bakers Square) in Akron, Ohio/Chapel Hill Mall as this song rocketed to the top on Billboard! Such fond memories of a great Era in music as this bands & Talking Heads orgin Out of the CBGB Club in New York Cities Star was Accending!🎉😅
