Wow! Awesome stars and a great supporting cast!!! A year earlier Powers and Darnell stared in The Mark Of Zorro. Powers Laird Cregar and Quinn would go on to star in The Black Swan a year later.

A great movie, but I wish the ending was better.

This 1941 film is one of the very first colour films. It is inspired by an early 20th century novel by the Spanish writer Blasco Ibanez "Bloody Arenas" which was inspired by several anecdotes of the life of a star bullfighter in Spain at the end of the 19th century Lagartijo (like shooting the stuffed head of a bull ex actually Lagartijo was hitting the head of a bull with his cane that he had stomped in the arenas of Malaga and that had frightened him the most and he had asked that his head be stuffed and had done live in their home). It is quite amusing to know that the actress Annabella the French wife in the life of the American actor Tyrone Power and the"main actress of the film Rita Hayworth were the mistresses of the famous star bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguin who collected the most beautiful actresses as mistresses whether they are Spanish like Carmen Sevilla, Mexican like Maria Felix, French like Anabella , Italian like Gina Lolobrigida , Austrian like Romy Schneider, german Ira de Furstenberg or Hollywood like Rita Hayworth, Yvonne de Carlo, Lauren Bacall and of course Ava Gardner whom he stole from Frank Sinatra who will send two killers of his friends of the American mafia in Spain to try to recover Ava Gardner and impressed Dominguin which will hardly impress the latter who will eventually settle and marry the Italian actress Lucia Bosé of whom he will have 3 children including a son the Spanish actor and singer Miguel Bosé

all these better quality movies from the 1940's are all so magnificently corny and miracles of grand gesture overacting...they all have the same stars just wearing different corny costumes....it must have been a wonderful time to be in hollywood with talking pictures in vivid bright primary colors and great great actors in the american cinema style....the stories all seem to be identical but who cares....................its hard to believe that while these silly naive charming childlike movies were being made guadalcanal was happening and stalingrad was on deck and Uboats were sinking hundreds and hundreds of ships
